This took me back - my Dad had one of these back in the day - great car! Great memories! 😀
My Dad had one of these and it was one of the first cars I drove, I remember the ride and especially the smooth smooth gear change.
I had a 1972 for some years. The double-carb-engines could easily burn through back-fire....
I broke down on the highway with a burnt ignition-switch - could get home by bypassing contact 30 with 15
in the fuse-assembly. Later VW solved the problem with an so called x-relais so that the main current was
going over the contacts of this relais instead through the ignition switch. The double-carb version was difficult
to align, with all the ankle-joints that had dead-play. Therefore excess fuel-consumption of 12-13 ltr./100Km,
this was an issue back in 1973 for a 54 hp engine. Another pain is the exhaust: it has 2 screws with 55mm diam.
they were not easy accessible and of course got terribly corroded - you could easily spend a day to become them loose, not accessible to angle-grinder...but if all the issues were solved, it was runnig / steering / breaking great.
These are my memories, maybe they help somebody....
If only VW had thought of including the back window together with the boot lid, it would have been the world's first 2-door hatchback.
When they were driving along all steamed up.... yep remember that in all my T3’s.... even ice on the inside of the windscreen.
Wish we here in the states had such a gathering of type 3 buffs
You should start a work shop in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺. 💙
The type 3 is so under-rated in the UK, the Americans are much more understanding.
A type 3 Variant ( estate car) is in many senses the only car you need.
Roger Hudson THANK YOU! I’ve waited to hear somebody say this, so many English people call the type 25 the type 3
Love your videos mate from Australia 🇦🇺 you can see them on the ch 9 network in Australia 🇦🇺. Big Fan. 🥃💙
Great looking car. Love the color. Front plate looks funny below the bumper with that wide open space above the bumper.
Sprintster wheels great my only criticism is number plate on the body above the bumper
TR-6 Also had Michelin red lines. 🙂
Amazing 👏
The commentator sounds like he’s smoked 200 JPS a day for the last 200 years
learned to drive in a texas yellow fastback same as that but the 1600e fuel injection
That red strip detail, effort and talent was really interesting
Did we do any engine work, brakes, suspension, ball joints, shocks, CV joints, you know, those mechanical things, or did we just do cosmetic things????
My mate Dave has a Type 3, it won best in show at Volksworld. He bought a share in the company that did the resto!
nice job on the car.but what happens after the show with the cars ?
Rather than fart about with the bumper, they should've just completed the bumpers as the manufacturer intended by attaching the rubber bumper strips.
Changed the colour and put adaft red stripe on a tyre that had nothing to do with the car
Fantastic
Not my personal choice of colour and wheels but they did a good job
They are called 'red lines'.
I remember sleeping over the engine when I was a kid
I really wish they had done the rear bumper too.
Same red strip on the bumper would help
We don't care about the shopping, we want to see the mechanics!
I love his tattoos sailor jerry rules
Where are the 'White Lines' ???
I wish the american type 3 didn't have the front license plate bump.
Rims are odd.
Should’ve went with Empi.
California style😎
Shame I sold my almost immaculate orange one for £650 in 1993....
Is the narrator from the witch?
Even he thought it was shit , you can tell by the pause, somepeople you can tell when they're lying
If someone (with some design sense) had cut the front bumper down the rear bumper would have been cut in the same way, but not drew, weird!!
What's with the hot rod tyres? Totally inapropriate.
Should of put a white stripe on the tyres. Also why not put headrests on seats. It's dangerous in a crash. When your neck snaps back you'll regret not having them.
the higher seats with head rest are ugly and came out on 72-73 models. I don't have the higher seats on my on 70 either thankfully

More people think the same as you but I just can't get my head around it. Comfort and safety over period correct style for me. I actually prefer the high back seats style wise also.
Wonder if anyone made a very large profit out of Drew for a change.
Front tires too small. Should have been a square setup..
My word thats one Fugley Car. Saved by a thin Red Line.
rick powell I got one. They are so strange looking I like it haha. Beauty in ugly.
Pritchard would change the frame on DaVinci’s Mona Lisa and take credit for the artwork.
This is the same guy who test drove a Citroen DS with the handbrake engaged and complained about how slow the car was.
He’s got the mechanical aptitude of a chimpanzee but that’s ok. What isn’t ok is the way he attempts to come off as the chief mechanic for a Formula One team.
I appreciate the way Paul handles himself but Pritchard is a pompous ass.
Why he even purchased hubcaps for a Saab and it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE; just ask him and he’ll tell ya how he, once again, saved the day.
Will your insurance company be ok with this? Changing the structure of the tyres..
What if there was a blowout on the motorway, and three people died..?
Why the hell would people travel the world to get a stripe of paint on there tires
I wonder what Bridgestone would make of grinding away there tyre sidewall. Should not be legal to do it
One day that tire stripe guy will be responsible for a crash or death.
I wonder how well he is insured and whether his customers have to sign a waiver.
Risky business model !!!

Long ago I knew a joke , what I forgot : how is it , does anybody know it ? : The traffic warden stops the owner of a VW 1600 TL , and forces him to open up the cover of the Boot ( he is looking for something ) , but it turns out him , that the car doesn't have an engine , because he finds boots in te front and back...
How was the joke ? i'm a joke collector from Hungary . Thank you... 🙂Ich spreche , übrigens Deutsch , aber nicht alle . Wie andere Leute von der ganzen Welt...
I wonder what others think of Drew's new show. I don't like it at all. He is trying to reinvent himself, but the show has zero chemistry.
Droop has xero n e thing......
He is a zero chemistry kinda guy..... gift wrapped in short man syndrome.... his body language is toxic
Yeah, I dislike the way that Drew and his pal Paul Cowland have a discussion about how they will change the car whilst they're still viewing the vehicle, before they've even bought it from the current owner.😮
I personally didn't like it.
It's only a bloody VW for God's sake. Its not a Jaguar or an Aston Martin.
Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that unlike a jag or Aston, it’s an air cooled VW so it’s actually reliable and well built ? I agree. The English should not build cars.
@@michaelconverse5127 I'm saying it's very ordinary looking not very "stunning" as Drew tends to exaggerate just about everything.I.E. the best , fabulous , extraordinary etc.
I realize this is t.v. so what else is new.
Robert Buchwald I got one and love it so much. There’s beauty in ordinary as well. 😊
@@alexn1184 That's quite true too.
Just one man's opinion after all.
( I can't enjoy the overhype from some of the t.v.shows though ).
Robert Buchwald right on. At least this show is devoid of the constant melted guitar music that car shows here in the USA feature to a truly annoying level.
