I'm in California and will be starting the Bone Clinic program next month with a licensed PT! The more the word gets out, the more PTs will sign up. This needs to be in every location!
Thank you, Margie, for raising awareness about Osteoporosis and the Onero program. So many women are stricken with this bone disease. Hopefully, more physiotherapists/physiologists will join the cause.
I am using your programme and I'm in South Africa, it is the best exercise programme I have ever done and my strength in my body overall has changed. I was diagnosed at 37 on the fracture line and am now 69 and have been on medication but stopped because of side effects. I couldn't exercise without lower back pain and spasm until I started the Onero programme and am pain free now. I have never fractured.
Dr Belinda. I do have a great trainer who I am working with twice a week. I couldn't just go in to a gym and do these exercises. They are much advanced for new people like me. I just can't wait until I get my Rems test, that looks in to the bone. Im in the UK and we just don't have anything like this. Which is shame as if more people could do this and improve its just so lifting to their lives. I only came up on your ,Lift heavy trial on U Tube. Thank you. Ftom the UK ❤
Thank you Margie! So important to get the word out. All of these people whining and complaining not this video doesn't do them any good because there aren't enough providers. Well then they share your video with providers in their area.
Thanks! That was my goal to spread the word about strength training and get more people to look into this program and the training. Also, the concepts can be applied to working with a physical therapist. I want people to know that exercise IS effective and not to be afraid but be empowered!
I am in Masterton, New Zealand and would so love to have the Onero programme in our town. There is only one provider in New Zealand at the moment, in Hawkes Bay which is a 3 hour drive away. I am going to contact my physio therapist here to see if she is interested in training to be a provider. We can't just sit and wait for the program to come to us, I believe we need to be proactive and help make it happen. Thank you both for this video, it has given me a lot of hope!
I totally agree that we can’t sit and wait for the program to come to us, we have to make it happen. I researched not only the study but found every TH-cam video about it I could, whether or not it was about the Bone Clinic. I found a video that explains the four exercises in detail. I showed my personal trainer and we started me on those exercises in mid February. I’m mimicking it as closely as possible. 30 minutes, 2x a week. Already I’m so much stronger. I started my deadlift at 25lbs now I’m lifting 70lbs!. Go on TH-cam and look up….. “ E3 REHAB HIGH-INTENSITY RESISTANCE AND IMPACT TRAINING LIFTMOR”. These are the exercises. Going this route vs the official Onero training doesn’t include everything The Bone Clinic provides, but it covers those most important four exercises that are the core of the program’s success. At least this is doing something in the right direction.
Margie, you and your podcasts are the best portal towards obtaining health fitness, and the joy of living a strong, healthy and long life. I am so grateful that you take the time to produce this wonderful podcast that disseminates incredible and useful information to anyone listening.
I wish more people would get licensed! I am doing the online falls prevention program & lift weights on my own but I would pay a lot to get some knowledgeable training.
I think the word is spreading and more people are getting the training. I am not sure where you live, but you should also be able to find a physical therapist (don't need to be ONERO trained) who can help you and evaluate your current weight lifting program to make sure you are safe and stabilizing safely..Dr. Claudia Tamas (ONERO provider in NJ) taught an online class with my community where she taught everyone how to breathe and stabilize during weight lifting. It was outstanding and the principles can be applied to any weight training program. Here is the link if you are interested in the class - www.happyboneshappylife.com/mastering-core-activation-for-weight-training-and-life-replay .
Since most of us don't have access to this particular program, hopefully some PTs and physios can come up with a similar training program that the rest of us can access. It would seem that there will be a big need for this kind of gym training in the future.
You have the wrong idea about the program. The Liftmor trial was based on specific exercises (they are not special exercises) so the benefits seen were based around that trial. Any PT could run this program if they had weights equipment and a drop bar, so they don’t need to create a program just be licensed to run it. It is exclusive only in the fact that Belinda insists on it being accredited to ensure quality of delivery and better outcomes including minimising risk of harm. It isn’t a gym program, it’s a health program with specific goals.
@@magpiegirl3783 I agree. I've been following the LIFTMOR program at my local gym. I took the program to the PT at the gym (based on the Griffith Uni academic research paper) and she ran me through the exercises. I've added balance exercises using a Bosu ball and SoleMate to strengthen my feet and ankles and other exercises to strengthen my forearms/wrists.
There are so many women and men with osteoporosis. You would think there would be more opportunity for us. This is exactly what I’ve been searching for and only feel frustrated that it’s unavailable. Any suggestions, please.
It would have been irresponsible to do so. You could try contacting a physical therapist for some guidance on improving general strength and fitness while more Onero centres open in the next few years.
I am in Canada. I don't remember seeing heavy weights in any of the physical therapy clinics here. If I were to try to find a practioner here to take the course, what equipment would they need?
Thank you for doing this interview, very inspiring. I would be interested in knowing more about what you learned from the dietitian in this program. Did they suggest eating more protein for bone building Thanks
Shoot for 35 to 40 grams per meal. I’m a retired dietitian working to improve my bone density without medication. Health is a complex system, requiring all the necessary ingredients: quality protein, the full spectrum of nutrients (not just the ones usually associated with bone health), and resistance and impact training. The Cronometer app is super helpful for tracking nutrient intake. I’ve gradually increased my strength this year to doing squats with 42-pounds, and have strengthened my core enough to do 10 real pushups. I’m 65 and never, ever, had been able to do more than a couple pushups! Recently had my P1NP (bone building marker) done and it raised from 39 to 83 after 7 months (as Dr Beck is seeing with her bone clinic patients).
Lots of criticism of Margie and this podcast because the Onero program is not widely available and the exercise details are not provided here. Firstly, Margie is doing her part in trying to promote the program. But she is also being responsible, as is Belinda, because people with weakened bones launching into heavy lifting exercise is a potential recipe for disaster. The idea of the program is that the client is hyper supervised by a qualified physical therapist who specialises in human movement. Get your head around the fact that this is not a gym program. It’s a health program designed to improve density whilst preventing any injury. The idea of the exercises is that you have to be lifting 80% of your maximum one repetition. The danger is that when people realise what the exercises are, they will go ahead and do these at a gym where the staff are unfamiliar with the goals of the program, and possibly attempt the exercises on their own not knowing what weight they should be starting with or how to adapt if they have arthritis etc. The Onero supervisors monitor then how to progress the client because progressive weight is the way the bone grows. I am an Australian who has followed the Liftmor story and was able to enrol in an Onero program in 2023. Belinda has worked damned hard to get acceptance of the program by relevant health aiuthorities and getting the relevant funding. She is working now to extend the program beyond her Brisbane Bone Clinic including internationally. I live in Victoria (another state of Australia) and we only have about 10 centres operating. Across the state. There is no centre in my town but fortunately there is one 1 hour drive away, so I was able to join and have now been doing this for just over 1 year. When I joined, they were running about 6 classes. Now that the word is out, those classes have increased across 5 days a week in client word-of-mouth, doctor and specialist referrals. I have osteoarthritis in the spine, scoliosis and kyphosis with osteopenia of the hips and osteoporosis of the spine. The program is very challenging but I have had no negative outcomes from the actual exercises. When I garden or sleep the wrong way, I can get problems that mean my trainer makes suggestions to modify the program. This can include lowering the weight, not doing a particular exercise for a week or so or a making an appointment for a detailed assessment. The emphasis is on the technique ALWAYS. The weight comes along as the client becomes stronger. My own Physio has told me that my kyphosis and musculature around my spine has improved incredibly and she is supportive of me doing the program (is considering applying for accreditation herself). So Margie and Belinda are absolutely correct in being super careful about raising awareness without giving people the impression they can do this program on their own. When I was first diagnosed in 22 with osteo, I was devastated and hunted down as much info as I could on everything relating to osteo and would excitedly try things, get angry when I could not. I’m grateful and pleased to be in a position to do this program. So, if you want the program, contact physios in your town and ask whether they know about the Liftmor trial and the subsequent Onero program. The more demand there is, the more likely a practitioner will apply for accreditation. Margie is doing a great thing in getting the ball rolling in the US. For more info, you can try listening to Sherri Betz who is also supportive of this program. PS: I am making continued improvement in the weights I lift. One exercise is challenging for me because of my kyphosis, but I have still progressed without injury. I feel so, so much stronger now in the lower back and hips. I can also now stand one leg eyes closed for 25 seconds. The program is also big on training for balance. I am progressing!! Not sure when I’ll get my next Dexa but my last spinal ex ray last month showed regular disk spacing, no wedging or fractures.
Hi Maggie I am a physical therapist and I would like to be traine in this approach I am living in Quebec I tried to contact the onero without success twice never get an answer also tried to contact Claudia about training and never got an answer so do you have any idea where I shroud reach to get traine and where people in Quebec can go to be trained thanks

I had just about given up and just prayed that I would die before I loose my mobility.. I now have hope, I would even move to Australia, but due to underlining issues, not possible.. I’m on no medication, -4.2 as of over a year ago. I know Pilates is not enough.. please help, can I join some private program
Have you tried either the Brisbane Bone Clinic or Onero websites. Another link is through Healthy Bones Australia where there is a spot to access the Onero program. They should have contact details including email.
It would be helpful to have a little more information on what exactly the exercises are. I believe I saw something about the lift mor trial on another video and it looked like people were deadlifting something like 50 lbs , which to me would be impossible! However, I would rather know if I can build bone without exercise! 😂😂
It might help if you looked around for more info on the Liftmor trials by Belinda Beck. The program progresses the client from base weight to higher weights as the cient’s strength improves. No one goes from zero to 50lbs and the supervisors would not allow that. And, short of the medications or hormone therapy, bone growth will not improve without the exercises that stimulate bone cell growth, ie: high resistance and high impact. If you are not into exercise, then Onero is not for you.
I agree with another comment, why bother to even do this program when it is hardly available, and so many people have osteoporosis and can’t even use the program! They clearly stated that the online program is not very useful!
My goal for having this podcast s to spread the information so more physical therapists and exercise physiologists will take the training and start more programs throughout the world including the United States. Also, the principles of strength training and impact training can be implemented with a physical therapist. I also wanted that message to get out.
@@margiebissinger6980 I fully understand that Margie! You also are doing the program as you stated, and seemed very excited about it. As your listeners, we would also want to know how we could do the program. This particular episode was just very disappointing. I do admire the work that you do, and I enjoy your podcasts and TH-cam videos. However, this is a huge issue for so many of us, and we just want to be able to have help! It didn’t seem like this video was directed to physiotherapist, and physical therapists. I also think that ONERO should consider adding strength training to their online streaming program to help others! I can take care of balance and fall protection on my own, so to only offer it to a few places is not helpful. I am sure I’m not alone in this thinking.
@@Epark58 We have to rely on physios and exercise physiologists to approach us unfortunately. Please feel free to send those people to us so we can help get them trained.
@@Epark58Margie has no control over the number of programs being run in the US but is doing her best to get the word out. It is a coincidence that a program started near her and she was able to join it because she had HEARD about it previously. The program has been slow to get off the ground here in Australia as well. It is not for want of hard work by Belinda. So, thank you Margie for putting the word out there. In the meantime, you could visit a physical therapist for advice on general strength training while you wait for Onero to take off in the US. You will then be well placed to start it.
With the modern age of technology, why can't we at least have the ability to go online and subscribe to the exercise part of this program. I get that you want a medial work-up but I've had that and now I want a weight training program to follow so that I can get stronger and improve my bone health and strength. I mean there are so many of us with OP, and absolutely nowhere to go, that would make a difference.. and I have a motto, if it’s not done the right way, it’s a waste of money, time and dangerous… please please, is there an email address… I’m 58, looking at me you would think, wow a picture perfect, but so far from the truth.

What's the point of this? There's two in California, three on the east coast and one in Wisconsin.
Where in California…please
@@ld4122Los Gatos and Danville. N. CA.
With the modern age of technology, why can't we at least have the ability to go online and subscribe to the exercise part of this program. I get that you want a medial work-up but I've had that and now I want a weight training program to follow so that I can get stronger and improve my bone health and strength. Otherwise this podcast isn't much help to most of us.
@@ld4122there's one in Los Gatos and also in Danville (both in the SF Bay Area) ❤
@@pennyvaeyou are absolutely correct! This was not even helpful! Such a waste of my time! If Onero is that concerned over everyone’s osteoporosis, there should be strength training classes available on her online program! There are other programs where the discretion is up to the individual as to how much weight they want to lift! This was almost a teaser! I’m very disappointed!
