Nice pedal and review. I've always appreciated the quality of Pigtronix pedals. However the price in Canada is $379, so I opted for the EHX Attack Decay at about half the price. The Attack Decay does good swell effects and a lot more, including endless sustain. I would have liked to compare the two pedals but that wasn't an option. Thanks for another great review of a quality piece of gear.

I have an Attack Decay pedal also. An unjustifiably overlooked pedal IMHO. The Gloamer does some of the things the Attack Decay does, and some of the things it can't do. In turn, the Attack Decay does a number of things the Gloamer does not appear to do. Phil did not attempt to demonstrate the function, so I can't tell if it is unique to the Attack Decay, but the EHX-AD can operate in polyphonic mode such that it applies the synthetic envelope to each of a series of successive notes.
The other thing the EHX-AD does is a more authentic emulation of "reverse tape". Keep in mind that the harmonic content of a plucked/strummed string is all clustered in the initial pick attack, quickly fading down to the fundamental and a bit of lower-order harmonic content as the note sustains. When a recorded guitar is reversed, the harmonic content needs to increase as the note swells back to the start. The EHX-AD does a great job of that, while the Gloamer does not attempt to do so. But again, the compression of the Gloamer aims for terrain similar to the EHX Freeze pedal, that hangs onto a sampled sound, as opposed to having emulation of reverse tape as its target.

I notice that on or about 3:11+ in the video it begins to sound a bit like Mark Knopfler’s guitar at the beginning of “Down To The Waterline”…..Cool!

Interesting pedal. The design as in stripes and font reminds me of 80s GI Joe. So tones weren't what I expected. However this is something that Bill at Chords of Orion should see. I see this really interesting in ambient tones

In general I'm not a pedal fan but this one awakens my interest. Sounds good. The violin or bow like effect attracts me. I wonder if you can fine tune the swelling speed and amount? What I'm looking for is a way to exactly mimic the bow sound of a violin or cello, that is to modify the typical guitar sound amplitude wave with it's steep start to a shape of a bowed string instrument, without the usual exaggeration you hear from guitar effect pedals, that's too much.

I'd love to combine the Gloamer and the Ehx Attack Decay in to one pedal. If I get the Gloamer I'll then have both! 😎🤓

pretty sure its a reboxed / simplified Pigtronix Philosopher king...sounds identical...you can get some additional trem and drive effects out of the Philosopher king...

Damn. Not really my thing, but I can imagine there's some people who would do some really interesting things with this. Very musical. The last "synth" pedal I tried was a ring modulator, which left a bad taste in my ears (you know what I mean) My father taught me how to play, and his motto was stay in your lane. If you want synth sounds, get a synth. The guitar is a specific sound and trying to do everything with one instrument is not getting you anywhere.
