    This is pretty much two separate videos here that I just kept together. 20mins apiece:
    1. Speculation about the next map and why
    2. Wild conjecture and lore nonsense born from the Isles of Janthir
    Hope you guys enjoy!

      Yay Mursaat Mursaat Mursaat!
      I would *love* if some of the villages in Lake Doric were beginning to slowly start supporting the overthrow of the Queen, virtuous humans who have had enough of being pushed back to the doorstep of their capital. The Queen is making friends with the Charr, Centaurs are raiding villages next door to DR and the seat of the Gods has been desecrated by both a dragon and then Sylvari and Charr (Sylvari are themselves dragon slaves - the version of the "cleansing of Orr" they hear will be of dragons and Charr ripping apart the ancient city, vines growing in its heart will not please them given what the people of Kryta have seen vines do in Fort Salma - and I certainly am not forgetting *another* use of a Cauldron of Cataclysm).
      Plus I think Anet might want to do a political story of the people being disgusted with their ruling elite, Make Kryta Great Again! I think it would be fun and interesting.

      I enjoy...especially the second half. I eat this lore and speculation stuff up...and your videos on it do more than the game itself to get me pumped on coming story chapters.
      (Side note: The moment I heard Rox say "Isles of Janthir" in the mission I told everyone with me "Woodenpotatoes is going to jump head first into that one.")

      Guess who has been getting a stronger sense of seeing people for who they are over the years? Kasmeer! Is her noble family descended from The Isles of Janthir?

      I especially enjoyed the wild conjecture! Another possibly related mystery that the themes of eyes and vision reminded me of is that of the Eye of the North. If its architects weren't shrouded in mystery I might've thought that the name of the tower was just a reference to the scrying pool, or the fact that we could replay cinematics there. After this video though, I wonder if it is another piece of Seer technology.

    • @TheDragonWhimsy
      @TheDragonWhimsy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *high fives* That was the theory I came up with for Kasmeer too when watching this video. And it fits the story perfectly as it'll probably be Kasmeer who joins Canach to find Cadecus and it will eventually tie into the Marjory/Lazarus story line later.

    Damn, those last few minutes got me really damn hyped. Also, thank you so much for touching on the Great Collapse! I had the epiphany about its connection to Lake Doric just moments before you pointed that out.
    I think another great point that suggests a connection between Abaddon and the Isles of Janthis is the point that a Crystal Desert expansion was leaked. Not much is calling us there (save for Kralkatorikk), and unifying all these pieces of the known world of Tyria would be an incredible direction for GW2.

      DarkSasori1 Happy to share. I would definitely take it all with a grain of salt, but I am definitely sold on the idea that they're taking us to the Crystal Desert. A lot of points WP made in this video, plus the general theme in GW2 of trying to understand the Mists-- it all points toward Abaddon and the Crystal Desert.

    I just amazed at how all this story can be consistently coordinated over so many years and patches and content. It's never surprising when the ball is dropped but it is amazing when it works. How long ago has all of this been outlined? Who in the company knows these answers? how do they know when to reveal what

    • @LY554YT
      @LY554YT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's so well "scripted", over an apparently huge amount of time, that's almost too difficult to believe it isn't just a lot of coincidences. Like all the stuff about the celestial ascended trinkets, and the themes that they have in common with the HoT story rewards. I'd love it to be true, but I can't see that in Nightfall they knew that there would be a link between Abadon and "Janthir" and the universe at large, and the way magic works that we are starting to understand now with the Elder Dragons before they were even a gleam in the writers' eyes.

    • @Jbills
      @Jbills 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      True that they hadn't the Elder Dragons in mind back during the writing of Prophecies/Nightfall... but it is likely that they looked back at old characters/quotes/stories in the lore before deciding upon these grander stories that they are just beginning to dive into.

    Here's an idea: An expansion/episode based on a journey where the isles are the destination. Let's have the devs unlock a whole bunch of maps on the cascades leading up to the isles, and have branching story choices. Since they're reintroducing hearts, these could also be an option. Kinda like how the core game was but with HOT-style progression and another new elite spec.

  • @FaustXX
    @FaustXX 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just want to throw a draft idea here to see if that could lead to something: could Janthir be the name of a dragon that the ancient races (mainly the Seers, Mursaats and Forgotten) have actually been able to take down, suggesting this dragon at the time would have been located on the isles?

  • @Teraphas
    @Teraphas 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I always took the Saul traveling south to the Isle after they showed it to be north, was it was a red herring to keep anyone not in the inner circle from trying to find janthir.
    I mean you have teachings that tell you not to think, question, or explore. why not a false lead to keep anyone from finding the mursaat as well and bursting the white mantles control

    I've been saying all along Abbadon was never an evil character, but more of an anti-hero, someone who was morally gray. His intentions were just but he had no qualms about how he went about achieving those intentions either.
    I hope we get to learn more about Abbadon and some of his secrets, and why the gods ran. My theory is Abbadon knew of the elder dragons and the true nature of magic, and he wanted to use the mortals of Tyria to help him fight it, but the other gods didn't and instead chose to cast him down, and when they learned the truth of why he went against them all along they turned tail and ran.

    • @Philiptanzer
      @Philiptanzer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a fan of this theory, actually I wasn't a fan of "Abaddon did it" rewriting all of GW1 either. The main problem I have is people ascribing "He wanted mortals to be free to use magic" or "He wanted people ready to fight the Dragons" as his intentions, he was a God of Secrets and I think its more probable that he just wanted more knowledge and the magical chaos at the time was giving him access to that. He was lord of water and like a stormy sea he was happy to crash and crush all just to uncover new depths or shores.
      Secrets don't have any real link to freedom and his actions after the fall don't really scream "freedom lover" to me; the Titans, all those bound tormented souls etc.
      He was obsessed with experimentation and what wonders and horrors could come to be his, the magical chaos was just his laboratory not his vision of freedom.
      At least thats how I see him, now I can accept that was his right as a God to pursue that line of action - but I wouldn't classify him in such glowing freedom fighter terms.

    • @7BitBrian
      @7BitBrian 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I'm not saying he was a freedom lover, I'm saying he was using the mortals of tyria. He didn't want to run from the dragons and truth, he probably wanted to devour them and their magic, but maybe needed us to do so for some reason. Proper distribution of magic?
      But in the end that was good for us, so in our eyes it gave us freedom to make our own choice, but he was doing so for his own selfish reasons, probably. But yea, it's just my current theory based on what little info we really have on Abbadon. He was the big bad of GW1 but we really dont know a lot about him.

    • @gamingmarcus
      @gamingmarcus 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if he knew about the elder dragons shouldn't he have been in favor of locking the magic?
      If the magic is flowing freely the dragons are able to consume it but they can't get it from the bloodstone as far as we know so that wouldn't really have made sense imo.

    • @7BitBrian
      @7BitBrian 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as we know, eventually they would have learned about the Bloodstone and come for them imo. And if the magic is all locked in the Bloodstones Abbadon and his followers cant use it either.

    • @Jbills

  • @yamyaminjapan
    @yamyaminjapan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tell you what I'd love to see In terms of story with Janthir... (please correct me if there's any thing i've made a mistake on). So Caudacus is on the run. I think maybe he could try and find out how to become a mursaat in the hopes to unite the splintered white mantle. He gets to the Isle of Janthir (a deserted ancient tomb or crypt or something) only to find the sleeping eye. He manages to wake the eye and the eye considers Lady Wi the most adept at magic and (this is where I may faulter) but she somehow becomes a mursaat. which pisses off Caudecus because he wants to be one but he has no magical aptitude. she kills Caudecus and through becoming a mursaat, she gains the memories of the the unseen one... She, sees the threat the dragons are and she sends the eye out on a mission to find the magically adept to recreate the mursaat. The Queen, Anise and Kasmeer are taken. The eye hovers above the city and takes them in an instant. some of the most prevalent users of magic (maybe just mesmers) are taken. This would make us the player character, go to the isles accompanied with Lazarus and Majory to rescue Kas, Anise and the queen before they are turned into mursaat. And in that journey we learn all about the eye and what it is and where it comes from. Who the mursaat were etc.

    If Janthir was a humanoid could it be the Colossus from fractals?

    • @valgrian
      @valgrian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Nah, the Colossus is totally a primordial form of the Leyline Anomalies we see showing up today -- a species composed of pure, condensed magic, driven extinct as they were consumed during the Elder Dragons' rise in power.
      At least, that's a theory that I think is pretty cool.

  • @filca98
    @filca98 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Off topic a bit, but I noticed something when seeing the eternal alchemy vision. We've all kind of assumed that these represent the dragons or gods. regardless, there are enough parallels. there are two side and 3 balls on each side. the 3 balls are equally spaced on their respective sides, but not to all six collectively. The balls that would represent Zhaitan and Mordremoth are opposite to each other no matter what, but not so much the rest. you can see little lines connecting the balls, but the goes diagonal instead of directly across. Jormag and Primordus are directly across, but they don't have a line directly connecting them. the actual ball connected to Primordus is Kralkatorrik and for Jormag is Bubbles. this could be taken as the counter-act OR power-up for eachother. to think of the counter-act idea it would be a matter of water vs. solid water and fire vs. solid fire (aka crystals). so what if we're going after the wrong power up and the reason we're going to the crystal dessert in the next expansion is because Kralkatorrik is the true opposite to Primordus. of course maybe it is the power up and we are trying to prevent Kralkatorrik from absorbing all of Primordus's magic before we get another Mordremoth super elder dragon. because life and death are both counters and related it would make sense that Zhaitan's death supercharged Mordremoth even more than the leyline energy boost. It's a thought into the true opposites in magic being related.

    Mursaat concept art without their armor show them looking like eyeless humans.
    Also the exalted look like a mashup between the mursaat and the margonites.
    Can definitely see the connections. Kinda want the mursaat to be linked to Arachnia the old non-official spider god instead of abaddon since we pretty much already know a lot about abaddon and what he stood for, so seeing another side of the story would be nice. Of course all those beings could have been sourcing some of their powers from Kralkatorrik which explain the purple hues of abbadon and his servents and the link with Glint (Glint who preferred golden servents cause she's a classy lady).

  • @Syphdias
    @Syphdias 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Two thoughts that came to mind after watching:
    1. What would happen if we go back to Omadd's Machine? Would we see how the second orb (Modremoth) would fall into the core(Tyria)? Would we see what Primordus and Jormag are up to, abstractly? Who is more powerful, etc
    2. If Janthir is a person (whether or not it's Saul) the Isles could have been south once and now, well, Janthir didn't stay there...

      It will be nice that it'll be an area that the devs have a clean slate to work with and can potentially invent some really nice new scenery and story in... A big part of me actually hopes it comes with an expansion because I'm not sure if Living Story could do it the justice it deserves.

    With regards to Saul D'Alession travelling south to the isles of Janthir: This sentence doesn't necessarily mean the Isles of Janthir are in the south, it just means that Saul travelled south to them. If this is indeed what happened, then Saul must have come from the very north of Tyria (off the map of gw2).
    At some point, he was exiled from Kryta, and went in a location he didn't know because he was blindfolded. He eventually emerged "at a city of massive towers reaching into the heavens" and then the dialogue with Mantle Knight Franklin seems to indicate that he returned to Kryta with the Divine Eye, so if he is en-route to Kryta and was headed south, that means he was exiled into the far north. Therefore, does this mean that potentially there is a Mursaat city of gigantic towers looming far far into the north?

    I love how the character says about all the different things that Braham doesn't know. Then Braham just pipes in....oh that Caudecus guy, i know about him catch up. I also like how its Rox that says it like they spoken about it because but Braham doesnt consider it important.
    I had an idea that we would be hopping back and forth between the story threads. Im thinking Janthir next > another ring of fire and possibly thk after.
    Ive always considered the isle to be quite tropical similar to the original kryta. Maybe because the divinities reach mission is pretty tropical. (in hindsight there is no logic to that). I always considered it similar of the location in the bonus mission pack where we saw the mursaat. I always read Janthir as a person's name, I thought he was the 'god' of the Mursaat. The eye always seemed like a religous artifact for somewhat a cult. I thought the eye was a more a metaphor

    Don't forget to add that Anet offered to do an Abbadon fractal and the community screwed us over on it by voting for Ellen Keil. We could have had sooo much explained by now. I think this leading towards Abbadon or at least something linked directly to him is very likely because out of all of the characters in the GW universe, Abbadon would be the only one with all the answers. He knew all the secret things, had all the knowledge. In fact it's most likely what drove him mad.

    Maybe the Isles of Janthir really were south of Kryta once... Would explain why they look like they belong to the area of the Fire Island Chain (and why there are Mursaat Fortresses around those islands).

    When I picture a Lake Doric map in my head, I think of an upside-down "u" shape, cradling Divinity's Reach. I think of that towering city and those mighty walls, but I also think of how much land there is beyond the lake. There's a lot of it, a lot of space for... things. What about around the map? What's to the east? Beetletun, Caudecus's lands, where he had loyal people, and north of Beetletun are the centaurs' lands. What's to the west? We don't know, but whatever it is, it is surrounded by the holdings of the White Mantle and attached bandits. What's to the north? We don't know, but there's a delta, so it's fertile and likely populated, and it's in the direction of the Isles of Janthir, and wouldn't that be a draw for a particular group?
    I picture Lake Doric, and I see a desperate White Mantle going for broke, and I see a sea of trebuchets pummeling the Reach's cracking walls.

      This mental picture may have been influenced by my detail-oriented playthrough of Fields of Ruin, which I finished up just a little while ago.
      Something I found odd was a group of homes in Ebonhawke that had been destroyed by a ballista bolt, or so the people say. This is weird because there's no other talk about the ordinary populace being in direct danger from the siege, and there was also talk from the Charr about just not being able to deal with those walls. Also, look at the angle. The projectile had to clear the biggest part of the mountain, and beyond that there's precious little space to fire the damn thing, with all those hills. And again, this is a ballista - not a weapon for high, arcing shots. Where'd they fire it from, the moon? So, whatever the hell did that destruction in Ebonhawke, it's damned impressive, and there's not a single Iron Legion engineer geeking out about it. If I take the massive flying leap of thinking that there's more to this than someone not noticing the bananas implications of the gash in Ebonhawke, my only conclusion is that this wasn't the work of normal Charr. If it's Charr at all (and not Evennia firing the mass driver on her orbital station, or Shinra getting aggressive from a franchise away), it had to have been the Renegades, and I can imagine Caudecus doing anything he could to get his hands on their ballistae-o-doom to besiege DR.
      This is obviously mental, but so is the story about it being ballista fire, and turn-about's fair play.

    Gods be damned, if they add in more abaddon cliff hangers my head will explode from all the unanswered questions.
    I wonder if all these machinations behind the scenes will come to light one day, I for one hope so as there has yet to be a more mysterious and interesting a character as abaddon (IMO).
    200+ years after his death and his influence is still there somehow in the shadows yet eerily ever present...

    Although the prospect of a Divinity's Reach sewers map would be good, it doesn't really compare to the mystical lure, that has constantly been taunting many a player for years, which is Wizzard's Tower. To think we may finally get to go there, find out its secrets, omg, unimaginable delight.

    They are doing the same thing with new maps that they did with the personal story, where they kept introducing new characters and retiring them super quickly to move on to the next story arc. Except now maps are the characters. They are just there for the story and we are blazing through new areas extremely quickly, and we don't have time to "bond" with them. I can't get excited about going to the isles of Janthir, or wherever, if we are going to forget the place once we've done our story and got our ascended trinket.

    • @WoodenPotatoes
      @WoodenPotatoes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think this is a really flawed perspective. It's more likely just due to the fact these are new maps and the others have been around for years now. In any single run of the personal story you hardly "bond" with Mount maelstrom or the Fields of Ruin more than you do with these maps here.
      If there is any problem it's the over abundance of account binding rewards and making sequential clears of living world on alts, that would return you to those maps, a hollow prospect.

    I'd love Lake Doric. The map, asuming it gets the spokes to the right and left around DR, wouldn't even be that much bigger then what we got with Ember Bay since a lot would be taken up by DR itself. However, the WIP map we saw probably has to get scrapped. At best they can use some parts of it as a rough skeleton and replace everything anyway, so development time would not be any shorter, really.
    PS: Ewww, sewer levels. But I agree, I'd like to see where Dougal went.

    TH-cam just recommended this video today, wow ! I miss the WP lore videos (or maybe he's covered everything there is ?). It would be amazing as a GW2 player if the upcoming mini, half a living world, expansion was a continuation of a GW2 storyline and not yet another nod to original Guild Wars content. A lot of GW2 players have not played the original game so any time Arenanet throws in a lore moment from Guild Wars that's meant to have impact its totally lost on them...
    Now saying that, I'm playing Guild Wars myself for the first time, playing it for the lore and to see where it all started. I would highly recommend it to any GW2 player ! The game is not GW2 though, it's combat and classes are totally different so don't go expecting what you're used to in GW2. It is however highly addictive once you get into it, so much so that I felt little incentive to come back and play The Midnight King content when it hit end of May, only starting that this month. I've loved coming across areas in Guild Wars that featured in GW2, seeing what they looked like back then. There's an absolute ton of stuff, a lot of areas from expansions, that I thought were uniquely GW2 only to find out they appeared first in vanilla Guild Wars.

    Random thought on how the devs can make the north in the south: Maybe they can say that the mursaat told Saul to say it was in the south so extra crazy people wouldn't try to go there themselves.
