I just started this video so the context of AskAMortician being mentioned in a soap video is currently lost on me. But Caitlins videos helped me get through my mom's death. She's amazing
Just a few terminology things - that green layer isn't nigiri, it's Nori - that's the name of the seaweeds sheets :) It usually a little darker - it's almost black in its green. You should have a little piled of pickled ginger (light pink shaved sheets) by your wasabi too :) Sushi: Technically, that's just the name of the rice Roll/Maki: Rolled sushi with the nori on the inside or outside. Hand roll/Temaki: Sushi that looks like it's in an ice cream cone made of nori Nigiri: Fish on little pillows of rice, sometimes with a nori band on top Sashimi: slices of fish, no rice. Tons of restaurants mix up these terms even which confuses people obviously, but that's what they really are. If you could make little rice shapes somehow, like putting it through a press, then using a just barely different shade of white might also give it an impression of texture. I don't know how long you can let the soap harden before adding a new layer, because if you can let it mostly harden and use just the barest thinnest bit ever for the nori, that would be good. You could also pipe just a little bit of white and then dark dark brown on it, pushing the white out like a bowl to represent the little bowl of soy sauce.
I know it's been two years, but thank you for commenting this. When she said jasmine and basmati rice I cringed a wee bit, since you could certainly NEVER made good sushi with basmati, that rice does not have nearly enough stick and would just crumble. I know it's a silly thing to point out, but as someone who grew up with rice, it bugged me.

So after watching her latest one where she makes the soap cupcakes, I looked up on TH-cam more soap stuff and one of your kit comparison videos popped up and I've been watching ever since. I don't make soap myself but there's something really satisfying about watching you do it.
You should add some “ginger” shavings on the top next to the wasabi ! Also maybe make the seaweed layer like half that size - but otherwise looks pretty much perfect!

As Klai said, maki are the rolls people usually think of as sushi. Everyone's input is valuable so long as it all adds up to something true. 1/2 isn't the worst for someone who is also not an expert.
I’ve started watching them pretty regularly including on their gaming channel. Their projects are amazing and often ridiculous but they’re also adorable when gaming together. They really strike me as the best of friends who got married ^^

Actually threadbanger is how I discovered your channel, you redid corrines fish in a bag soap to the fish bowl soap, and you are the reason I started soap making. Watching your channel and how creative you are with soap designs made me want to try and once I started I was hooked and now I cant stop.

Here's a fun fact about salmon colouring: It varies! Wild salmon will vary in colour depending on their diet (the same way flamingos do), but farmed salmon is fed artificial colouring to make it more "aesthetically pleasing" :/ (so farmed salmon is often a deeper colour because of that). Personally, I think the colour of the soap you made in the video is great and definitely looks like salmon to me! :)
Note to self: avoid "farmed salmon"! Seriously, artificial colour gives me migraines! Doesn't seem to matter when its added!, have to find out about this...hate to think how many fish have already been "harvested" and won't be used because eating them will just be too painful...
Honestly a Collab with Evan & Kaitlyn would be amazing and not too hard since y'all are both East Texas, maybe soap holders and mold making on your channel and soap on theirs
Weed em and Reap is a surprisingly calm channel I like watching. It's a family in Arizona that have goats and a cute little 'farm live' vlog. I binge-watched all of their videos to get 'up to date' a few months back. But it's super relaxing to follow their life.
This is such a cool soap! I think it works really well as an adaptation of a real-world thing. And the green you got for the nori is absolutely stunning - I'd love to see it featured more prominently in another soap.

Salmon is my favorite and this looks sooo good like, the marbling of the salmon is really good and the wasabi and soy sauce (which reminds me more of a teriyaki drizzle or some sweet sauce served with a salmon steak). I'm so hungry :( I love Asian dishes

Some of my faves, off the top of my head are: Dollightful, Bobby Duke Arts, Jackseptic eye, Hextian, Bernedette Banner, Morgan Donner...and a lot more tbh
It looks a bit more like smoked salmon and the first one looked like high-grade salmon. It does have quite the range of colors! Making chutoro (fatty tuna) would also be good since it has a TON of marbling in it
Farm-raised salmon doesn't have that orange tint as that comes from the food it eats in the wild, so farm-raised salmon tends to be artificially colored so that it looks like what people assume to be salmon color because darker salmon sells better. People attribute that to the quality of the meat when that's just not even true!
Also, location does have an impact on the color of the fish, since that would attribute to how much krill and shrimp the fish can hunt for. Salmon caught closer to Alaska are much redder than salmon caught further south.

Even with the lighter color, the swirl for the salmon layer is so pretty! FRESHLY COOKED JASMINE RICE IS DA BOMB! One of my favorite TH-cam channels is Bernadette Banner, she does hand sewing historical dress and has a pet guinea pig! She's fun. And there's also Lofty Pursuits! They make candy using old Victorian-era equipment with little shapes in them and the guy narrating has all sorts of fun trivia!
Fun! My niece wanted sushi soap so I made some fun silicone molds and used some fun melt and pour (she wanted to help!). So fun and so cute. Cool how you made it all with CP and a slab! Love your design Katie! Fun stuff!
I love your soaps, lately watching your videos has helped me deal with stress. Also, I do love Japanese food; I lived there for four months (I'm actually moving back this year) and Fell completely in loved with a lot of traditional Japanese sweets. Taiyaki, manjyuu,etc

You would be correct about salmon being different colors. Not only does the variety of salmon affect the color so does what they eat. Wild salmon vary in color from very pale almost white to deep dark nearly red. In the US most sushi unless it's super high end is made from farm raised salmon and farmers use additives in the fish food to get their meat the typical salmon color you see in the photos of sushi. I think the soap turned out great! You had me totally cracked up when you called the wasabi "wasabi poops" I always look forward to your videos ❤

Correct. Nigiri is the type of sushi that is rice pressed into a ball with fish (usually) placed across the top. :)

This is such a cool soap! I think it works really well as an adaptation of a real-world thing. And the green you got for the nori is absolutely stunning - I'd love to see it featured more prominently in another soap.

Salmon is my favorite and this looks sooo good like, the marbling of the salmon is really good and the wasabi and soy sauce (which reminds me more of a teriyaki drizzle or some sweet sauce served with a salmon steak). I'm so hungry :( I love Asian dishes

You should listen to your mother more often! lol she is right. The colour of the 2nd soap is perfect to salmon.
It looks a bit more like smoked salmon and the first one looked like high-grade salmon. It does have quite the range of colors! Making chutoro (fatty tuna) would also be good since it has a TON of marbling in it

Farm-raised salmon doesn't have that orange tint as that comes from the food it eats in the wild, so farm-raised salmon tends to be artificially colored so that it looks like what people assume to be salmon color because darker salmon sells better. People attribute that to the quality of the meat when that's just not even true!
Also, location does have an impact on the color of the fish, since that would attribute to how much krill and shrimp the fish can hunt for. Salmon caught closer to Alaska are much redder than salmon caught further south.

One of my favorite TH-cam channels is Bernadette Banner, she does hand sewing historical dress and has a pet guinea pig! She's fun. And there's also Lofty Pursuits! They make candy using old Victorian-era equipment with little shapes in them and the guy narrating has all sorts of fun trivia!

I love your soaps, lately watching your videos has helped me deal with stress. Also, I do love Japanese food; I lived there for four months (I'm actually moving back this year) and Fell completely in loved with a lot of traditional Japanese sweets. Taiyaki, manjyuu,etc
I love the peach vs pink color for the sushi. Looking forward to getting this one.
I do also like the steamed white rice from the restaurants.

Curiosity here, do the soaps ever split where the layers are? I imagine textures would less likely... but these flat layers, do they?
You would be correct about salmon being different colors. Not only does the variety of salmon affect the color so does what they eat. Wild salmon vary in color from very pale almost white to deep dark nearly red.
In the US most sushi unless it's super high end is made from farm raised salmon and farmers use additives in the fish food to get their meat the typical salmon color you see in the photos of sushi.
