i suppose there arent many other opportunities to undermine a mans masculinity without permanent damage to that character. its an easy tactic to use if the character is known for being macho and needs something for the audience to relate to too. or maybe hollywood are just trying to promote men taking responsibility for their half of the reproductive cycle.
