  • Had to replace the drivers side window regulator on my 2007 Audi A3 (similar to many other A3 models) due to the regulator cables getting jammed up between the door frame and motor mounting location - completely rendering the cables useless, and preventing the window from rolling back up or down. The plastics of the old window regulator were also rather damaged, so replacement was necessary (vs just repairing the existing window regulator)
The replacement regulator was purchased at ECS Tuning for about $68.

This video covers the removal of the window frame, full replacement of the window regulator, and re-installation back into the drivers side door, followed by a quick test of the power window after the repair. With the right tools, a little patience and methodical steps shown in this video, this entire repair can be done in under 2 hours from start to finish. It can likely be done in under an hour with more experience, but it was noted that while taking the door apart was rather easy, the re-assembly may take a little extra time as it is a bit more finicky to get everything lined up again.
Be sure to have some basic tools for the job:
    1) screw drivers / socket wrench with torx bits T25, T30, T45
    2) door panel removal tools (avoid damaging plastics of door)
    3) flat head screw driver
    4) needle nose pliers to compress plastic clips for regulator motor connection
    5) flashlight for hard to see areas.
In order to perform this repair, the door panel must be removed first (3 torx bolts) + multiple plastic clips to gain access to the door hardware that must be removed to remove the window regulator. Be careful when removing the door panel from the door. The door electronics for windows/door lock switches has an electrical connector that must be carefully removed, as well as the mechanical door latch must also be disconnected to separate the panel from the door.
Once the door panel is removed, all the regulator hardware must be unbolted from the door frame. There are 4 small torx T25 bits holding the window regulator rails to the door frame and 4 large T45 torx holding window frame to the door frame (2 on the left part of the drivers door above the latch and behind the rubber weather stripping, 1 above the speaker, and one on the inside portion of the door, near the top of the window). There are also 3 torx screws holding the motor in place. The power window motor must be removed from door first, and then the 3 plastic clips holding the window regulator for the motor, must be popped into the door to allow the window regulator mechanism to be removed. Once the 4 small torx bolts for the window regulator and 4 large torx bolts for the window frame, as well as the 3 plastic clips for the window regulator that attaches to motor are removed, the window frame + regulator can be removed from the door frame easily.
Instructions provided in this video cover most of the detailed work involved to replace the audi drivers side window regulator common on various Audi A3 models and other Audi vehicles.

Hi, can you tell me what the size (length/diameter) of the 3 torx screws are for mounting the motor/regulator? Cheers, J.

Not sure - and it may depend on the year of Audi you're working on. I just re-used the ones that were already there. Are the ones for your motor missing? Doing a quick google search, seems they might be Torx #25. www.audiworld.com/how-tos/a/audi-a3-how-to-replace-your-power-window-actuator-420633

@@nPlus.1 Thanks. My car came with a few things needing to be tinkered with, including a lack of motor and misaligned reg'.
