I was walking down the Kings Road, in Chelsea, London, in 1984 one sunny day, when an open topped MG passed along the road and the driver was listening to 17 Seconds. Thats when I first heard the track, and I was immediately drawn to it, I still love it.
I was taken an idea that the Cure must be the precusor of alternative. This is very ahead of the age, simple but beautiful and fantastic. A piece of art!
1.The Cure, 2.Joy Division,3.Siouxie and the Banshees,4.Killing Joke. No Cranberries in my Ranking ,yes she was quite pretty very Irish and soon gone and forgotten.Who forgets the Cure ?
The Cranberries and the Cure together in one comment? The world is surely coming to an end. The Cranberries were a hiccup, the Cure is an orgasm that never ends.
Why is everyone bashing the Cranberries? They're both great in their own right. The Cure appeared before, and kept the band going for decades, whereas The Cranberries started in the 90s and disbanded years later.I cannot believe I'm reading hate from The Cure fans! They both make amazing musicYou can't compare their commercial success or longevity,it's like comparing an ant with a lion. What's important is the MUSIC,the feeling!,and they both are AMAZING.Listen to Daffodil Lament forEx. Love&respect!
what are people attacking the cranberries for? its irrelevant, and besides, they're a pretty good band. The Cure is better, but that doesnt mean you need to piss all over them.
@greyagain Lots of great tracks on Kiss me...the kiss, snakepit, like cockatoos, if only tonight we could sleep to nake a few. disintegration was also immense but seventeen seconds, pornography and faith are my faves. Can hardly stand their new stuff which is a shame
@grimmyabreak I've seen them both in concert and there's no comparison sorry. If the Cure's avante garde style leaves you cold then you may be suffering from a deficiency of artistic depth, talented or not the Cranberries broke zero new ground. If I'm mistaken perhaps you'll leave a link to one of their masterpieces? Everyone is entitled to their own mediocre taste in music, in fact I'd say the majority of pop fans are thus afflicted. Sorry about that.
The best band of the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The cure in 80's was DAMN awesome, Absolutly amazing. Unique songs, musics with 8~10 minutes, great atmosphere.. Damn it, thank for share this song.
Can't even express how amazing this sounds. To me a Cure show is life changing...very few things give me chills.

This song is astronomical in its ability to haunt me. I wish I could live in this song, and keep it going and going and going.
wow this is the only live version of Seventeen Seconds in the time it was 'new' (1980) I've found.
I really like it! The Cure are gods!
brilliant version...robert lets it go on stage for ones....love this
I love this- the song, the performance, and that Electric Mistress flanger into the Roland Jazz Chorus amp played by Robert Smith
"Forever" is probably one of the best song ever written.

Wonderful Performance.....Love It! 8^)>
Cranberries can not be placed in the same level as THE CURE. The Cure are at a level on their own.
the cure, rule!
Lol Tolhurst best drummer ever for the Cure and the world.

Is it Friday today?😍

Boss BF-2 Flanger into a Roland Jazz Chorus. Lots of modulation from the 2
Just remembered, this would still be Robert using an Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress flanger, the Boss came a little later
