Great content & love this version of mono-red. I've done about a dozen standard events & have a negative EV. Mostly, I run into the nemesis decks (black vs. red, control vs. white, etc...) & average only 3-4 wins. Perhaps it's not only my decks, but my gameplay that is the cause for my lack of a 62.5% WR (5wins-3losses). 😜 As always, you're the Ace! Cheers!
I like your advice on doing Standard Events for collecting gems and packs. I'm doing it myself since you gave me that advice some months ago. And I'm happy to do that, because with minimal time effort (and without any kind of matchmaking manipulation) you're able to get fair rewards. But holy moly, how often you were allowed to be on the play, haha nice. You're completely right, that's a huge advantage when playing Mono-Red Aggro. And even more, if you're having a mirror match against another Mono-Red. I'm already interested for the next videos. I obviously use my Mono-White Humans deck for the BO1 Standard Events, because I have the most experience with that archetype and also the best success.
I mean, going first in 6 matches (out of 8) is insanely nice. Always happy if it happens like that, because it definately helps winning and finishing your Standard Event faster - or at least with enough rewards.
For sure lucky on this one for how often I was on the play and so happy it happened with mono red because I think mono red is the most important deck in the format to be on the play. Changes it's win rate the most. I love how in this one total game play is less than 30 minutes. Not much time commitment and get a reward.
Love this new series idea! This was exactly what I was curious about: ways to expand my account F2P and the best ways to do so. Thanks for the awesome tips!
went to the event with your deck, i think i tried it only 2 times one time with mono red at the very begining a year ago, got crushed, then half a year later tried it in my secondary acount with monowhite humans and went 7-0 :) but havent played the event for half a year since then. So my first time i got only 1 win, granted i threw away the second win on the misplay. So lost 325 gems, got angry, went a second time and got 5 wins :) so still a net loss, but a bit better. What i saw is there is a lot of antired decks there, one of my losses was to lifegain, 3 to azorious control with temporary lockdowns, revalries and unions. Would love more of this event content, as it would allow to get better idea about the meta there.
You are totally right about finding off meta decks. very often first few matches will be against decks you're not used to seeing. Some of which are underpowered but sometimes they will get you. I don't usually get much control but if you're seeing a lot of azorious control that is trouble. Till you are getting good success I'd go with gold. That 2,500 gold is what you will get back in two days. I only used gold till I was sure I was consistently getting 5 or more wins. Then I switched to gems.
This is great, thank you. Never really had good luck in events so I haven't done them too much. I also have a pretty cool red Dragon deck. You should maybe do a weekly thing where you take viewers submitted decks to try out. I think that could be pretty cool!
I'm about to jump into standard events. I hope you'll make this into a monthly thing. It makes constructed much more fun, but most standard content creators only do ladder. So thank you for testing these decks in the events.
@@AceMTG honestly, any of the decks you've showcased on your channel but haven't tested in an event yet would be great. If you can pull it off with decks that are leaning towards budget (doesn't have to be a total budget deck, but on average uses fewer rares than others) that would be more appealing. Would you have any decks that fit that criteria? Even if they're not budget, I'd still love to see the decks you've released this month be tested in events. It gives each video a story. (Did this deck succeed? Watch to find out). Feels similar to limited videos, where you're rooting for the content creator. 😅
Nice. I will look into the budget one but for that I think the best is something I've done but will look again. I want to have a few control, midrange and aggro build for the event for all types. Last time was all about aggro and finishing them quick. I know in the long run that is always how I'd approach events for time. @@roy4173
@@AceMTG I think that's fair. Fast is generally more preferable in practice for most of us anyway. Control and mid-range could be interesting for gameplay sake. Looking forward to your next vids!
Thx ace! Kind of what I wanted this helps getting one's card collection going. Already got a mono red. Guess I'll just try and tune it to match this one. Thx ace!
I would argue that the Standard event can be more competitive that the ladder, bc in the event if you don't get at least 5 wins you're losing gems (even tho you win packs), however in ladder you can have a losestreak and still rank up with time. I agree that is a good way to grow you collection but to do it best is better to use a deck you have experience with.
100%. If you have a deck that is your style and you know it well you are way better off. Know the format and what to do against the different decks. Once there with a deck I think people would be better of with events to build the collection. I also have more fun with them than the ladder.
Hi there Ace! Looking to get into standard but not sure what deck to build. I saw Mono red win rate is under 50 percent, Do you still think its worth investing into? (I know its cheap). Coming over from CEDH!
@AceMTG in paper. Hoping to stay under 400 usd. Was interested in Esperanto mentor, but not sure if it can compete with Tier 1 decks. Thank you for the reply!!
so mono red is of course your cheapest but I would not be happy with the win rate in bo3. I think domain is a top deck but will rotate in September so that would such to invest and go away in 8 months. So I think I would pick epser midrange. Lots will rotate but so much will stay and it will still be a competitive deck. The other choice for me is azorius soldiers. The deck will lose nothing in rotation. @@WillowsRoommate
Mono red I think the invasions are best against other mono red, but pretty bad against control or mono removal. Two copies of feldons still does damage and had good against red. I prefer witchstalkers and no mishras. Even with only two I end up wanting to double spell and not being able to way more than I do using it as a man land
@@AceMTG makes sense. Witchstalkers is nice in the mirror too for taking out godricks or swiftspear without needing to worry about blowouts. You ever try without mishras? Especially since you run a lot of one drops like i do. And I’m guessing you feel the same way I do about adversary; if you are casting it at 5, you probably lost already.
I will often do that in mono-white. I'm actually good with two of the discard lands for mono-colored decks. I like it better for mono white just because of the removal I found more useful than the two 1/1 haste creatures. I actually forget why I stopped doing it in mono red.
I'm glad to hear this. Everyone has told me they don't get the views cause people don't care, but I love them. A little event each day and I feel I have done something.
Thanks. Esper would be a top choice to win one of these but for this run on standard events I want the aggro decks I think are best. Esper is one of my favorite decks but takes a little more time on wins. I wanted a lot of these to get 7 wins in under 30 minutes. But esper will be coming up in other videos.
I agree. I love them but I guess normally they don't get the same views. I'd like to do a week of standard events for each set to help those who want to farm.@@crow9117
Haha for sure. Got lucky with on the play and total game play was actually less than 30 minutes. My goal is to do them all this week in under an hour which is always nice. You get your games in without too much of a time commitment and get a prize.

I think in the long run it is but I wanted to mix it up a little and the invasion-style mono red. When doing this deck I like Devastator better for the invasion purpose only. In events I like the invasion version for more burn in the mirror which is so important to keep them off curve.

Still a whole lotta fun pissing ppl off on ladder with a flame breather variant...basically a full burn variation
I need to build a pure burn deck for the new set. Something I have fun with but have not done much in standard.
I play fringe decks with incidental lifegain purely because I hate mono red.
