    for some reason I draw the opposite jaw shapes for each gender and this video really helped me realize that and now I know what to think when drawing each gender now! I actually learned a lot, thanks!

    I know it's been 5 years but if you see this, thank you!!!! I'm amazed that throughout the 100s of video tutorials I've perused while learning to draw, this is never covered in details or even hardly mentioned! I guess I didn't know to look for it, but some of the bits in this video just saved me hours of smudge tool. I can't express my gratitude enough, thank for you sharing!

    Seriously every time that "triggered" showed up I lost it hahahahhaa
    I've never studied anatomy or the human skull but surprisingly I know most of these things through subconscious observation as well as trial and error, but this is really cool cause now I've got the knowledge to back it up and I feel more aware of it all now! Also very interesting seeing you transform them into the other gender with just a few differences. After the gender differences, could you make one for age differences? Maybe you can add a little tip about that in part 2! Looking forward to the next part!

    • @AhmedAldoori
      @AhmedAldoori  8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Ah! I will keep this in mind. But in case I don't cover that; the main differences for age is that certain parts of the skull will keep growing - such as the ears, nose, and jaw. So faces will tend to look wider/shorter and the nose and ears will look exaggerated for older people. Young humans appear to have bigger eyes as well, mostly due to the relative locations of the nose/mouth/chin ratio, but those things also expand. Hope that helped!

    This is awesome! I tested this by drawing a basic female face and then scaling up/stretching out the head and features except for the eyes. It was instantly more masculine and then it became really easy to adjust the placement of the features slightly. Awesome informative video Ahmed!

    this just blew my mind. It seems like common sense but i have beed doing it so wrong this whole time! I have been using a male skull to study from and drawing almost exclusively women! I have been wondering why all my women end up looking like Dolph Lundgren. I think this is going to really help me out on my artists journey to get better! Thanks man!

  • @rukawa23gold

    Guy:
    1. brow ridge due to bigger cranium.
    2. Eye socket . Same size as women
    3. Nostril and mouth farther away from eye, due to bigger jaw.
    Girls: the opposite traits of men
    I will use these tips more in my drawing of women. Thanks 😊. Very useful video 👌👍💪

  • @notsemeti

    this is very interesting and honestly these are differences I've seen in every day life but somewhat ignored them. at the same time, while all you said it's true, I feel like in the end it's just how you make your character read as male or female, or even androgynous, because males can have feminine features and females can have masculine features. this is a topic I've seen featured on Concept Cookie and I feel like it's an interesting thing to look through, and it might actually help a lot with character design, or even portraits. but specifically for character design, it would come down to backstory and behaviour, and by that I mean if you were to have a male character that acts very feminine, you'd give him softer features at least around the face. like, it comes down to a psychological level; the mentality of a person is based on the genes, and if those genes belong more to the feminine side, though the body is masculine, it still translates into softer features.
    also that triggered thing made me lose my shit so much lmao

  • @sagecat1528

    This was really interesting on two fronts:
    one, I don't know enough about scientific anatomy yet.
    two, most people call me handsome rather than pretty although I'm female, looking in the mirror and low and behold I have a subtle brow build up and a more square jaw.
    I'll definitely be practicing those differences, you explain things really well :)

    • @markus3666
      @markus3666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      By your profile picture, it seems you use makeup. I'm not sure if you've already tried this or whether it is relevant, but couldn't you just highlight it to make it appear more feminine? (if that's your goal, at least)

    • @sagecat1528
      @sagecat1528 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Ci I have reasonable skin and so I'm not wearing any foundation or contour. Eyes, brows and lips only. (if i use dark makeup the camera ignores most blemishes because of the contrast I guess?)
      A lot of drag queens make their jaws more feminine by putting contour under the jaw but that looks too harsh on me. Do you think if I put highlight instead it would round it off? And if so would I put it by my ear where the jaw meets the neck or nearer my chin?

    • @markus3666
      @markus3666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sage Cat I'm no professional at anything by any means, but I think that could work. I've seen a lot more advanced things done with makeup.

    • @markus3666
      @markus3666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sage Cat I suppose since it can wash off it's always something you could try at home to see if it could work for you

    • @sagecat1528
      @sagecat1528 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Ci the sentence "I'm no professional at anything by any means" is going on my CV 10/10 inspiring.
      But yeah it's almost scary what people can do with make up. The silent hills movie is almost all make up and practical effects, it's mind blowing! It's true, it'll wash off and it's not like I can't try both out and see, good idea though. Together we may make a feminine face outta mine yet :')

    That was fucking interesting i didint know the craneum was so different
    One thing tho, how do you vary the facial features from person to person enough to make them look different, i struggle a lot with it (on female mostly), ending up as a weird creature resmbling a human...Specially when I want to draw two "attractive" faces, they both end up way too similar.

    • @bakaiggy
      @bakaiggy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I struggle with the same thing. Try drawing people from different races by using references, and notice what makes them differ from each other. Like make one have a long nose, other a square chin, someone pointy eyes and other freckles and bushy eyebrows. It's the little differences that makes them different and stand out.

    • @xoXDarkCuackXox
      @xoXDarkCuackXox 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      He picked extremely dimorphic examples for illustrative purposes. the differences aren't usually that extreme. There's generally not that much of a size difference. 1-2 cm, tops, and there will always be people on the outer edges of the bell curve. The models he chose are also of different ancestral backgrounds. An Asian male skull might look more delicate than an African female skull due to evolutionary adaptations to environment and sexual selection.

    I just wanted to watch the video for the tips but the ... Joking parts the "jokes" were pretty annoying, could've done without it. This comment section is pretty bad too. I enjoyed the difference things though.

    I personally found the constant triggered distracting and slightly annoying, but the lesson was good. I hadn't noticed the differences much and will definitely be using this in further pieces and character design. :)
