Ahmed this video just saved me a ton. I kept doing the outline and had the nagging thought of "cheating" in art, but seeing you do it levels the field of what's acceptable. You're a life saver man! Thank you!
I actually just went home from school sick and should sleep but then I watched your tutorial but your voice is awesome and kinda reassuring. Not boring or making me sleep but it's the reassuring kind when it rains outside and you sit in your home and listen to the drops fall. Uhm yeah. Also great tutorial. Nice work on those hands I'll propably try this out. Till now when I did master studies (or tried) I just got a picture and tried to copy it... he... Well gonna go to sleep now good night
Also, with regard to the "s" sounds being really hissy and high pitched; I got a pop filter for my mic but I don't think it worked, so I am using a "de-esser" plugin that's helping a bit. Let me know if it's still destroying your ears.
The sound didn't bother me - I didn't even notice, but it's nice that you want to improve. Also I think the editing in this video was really good. It made some points clear if you couldn't explain them that well.
The point of twitter is to send or receive actuality more fast than facebook, tumblr, TV, radio etc by using hashtags. The informations are more easy to find and more fast than any other social media, you can use it for promoting you work. For exemple when you send an illustration use a short sentence and add #AhmedAldoori plus add other popular hashtags like #fanart #deadpool you can also add a @ to send your tweet to someone like @VancityReynolds then he can retweet your picture to his fallowers. More you have retweets more you are popular. It's better when you tweet a picture or a picture with a video. You can delete the "@TH-cam". Also you can mentionned your youtube channel on your profil description.
its funny, I came up with this method myself because I spent years modeling in 3d, so when it came to trying to learn to draw and do studies doing a "low poly cage" was my best solution. Thanks for the Bargue book, I def am going to get into that!
I love drawing hands, they're so dang dramatic. I can't wait for your next video! I would be super interested in how to make painted skin look "Skin-y" lol
Hey Ahmed, love the tutorial! But you mentioned using the mixer brush to blend things, and I normally use a hard round brush with smudge, like Sakimi. Could you please make a tutorial about using the mixer brush for blending? 'Cause I can't get to understand it properly, thanks!
I just recently started studying Leyendecker and Charles Bargue! Definitely gonna try to approach the studies the way you do, I've only done it traditionally so far. Hands are hard, sigh
Your s's sound fine to me! This is perfect BTW, I'm focusing on hands this week. Your way of thinking about drawing is very similar to mine so I find it very very useful. Thank you!
That "click" was intense hahaha I need to start doing this with faces. What classic artist would you suggest looking for faces and also bodies... It's hard to get the softness with acrylics for me
Can you please make a video of your brush settings? I already have your brushes but they look really bad in my settings, they look too "digital", I want the traditional brush effect. Please (:
With regards to painting, I've started painting my sketches(sometimes after lining) recently and I find the piece loses some of the energy that was in the sketch after i try to paint/refine it. Are there ways to avoid this or does it just get better over time? Also loved the video!
Ah thanks! That's a great question that highlights a problem that I struggle with all the time. I think it turns odd when I go to "paint mode" because I forget that painting is just continuing the sketching. If you consider yourself to be sketching the whole time your result will be different! Because "paint mode" feels like a meticulous cursory process that takes the fun out of it, but if you can access the same creative flow you have when sketching then you're on the right track.
I didn't paint the original picture, that was done by J.C. Leyendecker and I did a study of it; which took 30 minutes, condensed to the 9 minute video here.
Check out Richard Friend's youtube channel if you are a fan of Leyendecker.s art. One of Friend's recent vids featured a book review of Leyendecker's art. Leyendecker's art is absolutely amazing, and immediately went out to the book store to buy it. Thanks for posting this vid...I've been dissecting Leyndecker's art, and studying how he did things. I like how you broke down the hand.
im studying faces and expressing emotions and thats exactly what i cannot get done the person does alway show the wrong emotion if i wanna draw a sad dude he looks like hes surprid´sed do u have a tipp or references i can profit from?? not just ahmed everybody if you have a tipp please share it
+FuNeRoCk grab a mirror, and do studies of yourself making different expressions :D I promise you will learn a lot because real life observation is the best teacher
seriously it should be illegal to this low key.You have low key music.Layed back vibe going on.And the video looks professional and clean. But not forced into your natural perfection
It's very important to do life observation studies - they have a profound impact on your mental library as it ties to depth perception/perspective/form/lighting - our eyes see light differently than cameras, despite all the rave about HDR. Etc...
Drawing hands are the bane of my existence. THIS IS SO GREAT
You're so good at breaking down complicated stuff and making it easy to understand!! Thanks heaps for all your tutorials :D
Ahmed this video just saved me a ton. I kept doing the outline and had the nagging thought of "cheating" in art, but seeing you do it levels the field of what's acceptable. You're a life saver man! Thank you!
Heck yeah! No rules man :D

It wasn't that bad but I'm pretty sure you're improving a bit ;)
sounds fine!

My whole life has been leading up to this
Mine too u_u
I love your stuff pan!!
Hey thanks ! :D
J.C. Leyendecker is one of my idols! Can't wait to see the spotlight video. Also the audio sounds fine to me (lol the "click" at the end).
Haha yeah did some editing there :)
Awesome! The technique you explain is so practical! Very 'handy' :)
As always, looking forward to more!!

Cool to see a J.C.Leyendecker shout out, one of the classic illustration styles
Nice drawing! Keep making more videos like this!
This was super useful, thanks Ahmed!
i love leyendecker paintings, such a unique style. he is such a legend....
ok im leaving.

Hey Ahmed, love the tutorial! But you mentioned using the mixer brush to blend things, and I normally use a hard round brush with smudge, like Sakimi. Could you please make a tutorial about using the mixer brush for blending? 'Cause I can't get to understand it properly, thanks!
+itsFreak yes! I've made a video on that titled how to blend! It covers my brushes and how I use the mixer brush
I just recently started studying Leyendecker and Charles Bargue! Definitely gonna try to approach the studies the way you do, I've only done it traditionally so far. Hands are hard, sigh

Because you know I'm all about them shapes, 'bout them shapes~
Now that's stuck in my head on repeat, thanks. haha
Unrelated but your voice is so soothing!
yay!! can't wait for more! x)
That "click" was intense hahaha
I need to start doing this with faces. What classic artist would you suggest looking for faces and also bodies... It's hard to get the softness with acrylics for me
Haha yeahhh... for faces;
J.C. Leyendecker
John Singer Sargent
Anders Zorn
For bodies;
Anders Zorn (especially the beach paintings)
The fact that you recommended my favorite artist Zorn aaaah much love Ahmed. What would your suggestion be for doing expressions?
+Lady_Zemmy Norman Rockwell!!!
Actually it would be super cool if you redid an old painting that you showed us in the memory lane video :D
At the very beginning when you're outlining the hand, what are you pressing to automatically make a line from the last point?
I am curious too
Tap wherever you want your first point and then hold shift and tap on the next point to create a straight line. Hopefully that makes sense lol
Crystal T Thanks, didn't know about that
Ohhhhh i had an epiphany about blocking in bigger forms! i get it now
Thanks Med!
So good!
this information is really hand-y
Chipp3 _ :)
I feel like you're going for a Bob Ross approach lol. I love Leyendecker!
And that was a very good click!! :O
Thank you soooo much!! That was really helpful!!
Can you please make a video of your brush settings?
I already have your brushes but they look really bad in my settings, they look too "digital", I want the traditional brush effect.
Please (:
+Dramilion I've already made a video covering that called how to blend!
I love it!
hmm. any chance that u might do a tut/medcast on portfolios? btw love ur vids O_O
0:36 sweet pun dude!!!

that's an awesome way to look at it! thanks for the advice i'll definitely keep that in mind
I was just about to ask the same question lol Thank you for answering this Ahmed!
You should do a curly hair tutorial
How do you get those lines to connect? I had no idea you could do that! O_O
+Maoh Wolf after you make a mark, you hold shift and click the next point you want the line to go to! :D
Omg thank you so much! ^_^ very nice of you to reply I appreciate it :D im excited to draw now XD
+Ahmed Aldoori omg thank you so much. I have this question too in my head before.
Thank you very much, bro!
it's a handy tutorial
How long did it take you to paint for both the original picture and the practice?
I didn't paint the original picture, that was done by J.C. Leyendecker and I did a study of it; which took 30 minutes, condensed to the 9 minute video here.
Do u use photoshop on ur computer or tablet? :o
ahmed do u use a cintiq ?
+Karim Roshdy no I use an intuos pro medium tablet
Why not a cintiq ? I know, bit late for a question , shukran jasilan.

Hi Ahmed Aldoori
all I wanna do is design characters haha
do a tutorial "How to draw hands without reference"
Hey guys, I did a study of this painting by J.C. Leyendecker and would love if some of you guys could check it out and critique it.
seriously it should be illegal to this low key.You have low key music.Layed back vibe going on.And the video looks professional and clean. But not forced into your natural perfection
How important is drawing from reallife if you are "good" I don't mean photos, i mean real stuff.
It's very important to do life observation studies - they have a profound impact on your mental library as it ties to depth perception/perspective/form/lighting - our eyes see light differently than cameras, despite all the rave about HDR. Etc...
Eyyy 1st
DAMN YOU FOR TAKING THIS TIME. I got mine a while ago though. lol
+Ben “Bionicsonic” Jennings I was just waiting for something to watch and then I see this vid and I'm like, "YASSS"
It's all good man. Keep doing what you enjoy.
You need to understand the paint layers, and single brush strokes, he didnt paint with a toothbrush for gods sake
I tried this and recorded it, I would much appreciate it if you guys could check it out and give me tips. Thanks
Haha first on in the comments! Do I get something? :D
Haha you were actually beat by two people xD
