I moved out of California in 2007 and never looked back.

Suspect this means we will not only be paying more at the pump but also for every good and service with a relationship to an engine somewhere along the line. Not convinced EV's will be any better for those who can afford them in the long run not only because our grid can't even handle a hot summer day but also because California never fails to approve PG&E's constant rate increase requests.

When I lived in California , Gasoline only cost $.50 per gallon . When I worked in Saudi Arabia , gas was $.04 per gallon !!! Leaving was the smartest thing I ever did !!!

Gasoline here is $2.799/gal at the cheapest locations. Loyalty programs can make that even cheaper.

The high gas prices are good for investors who bought oil stocks during the pandemic. The dividends are great. For the rest of the people, it is getting quite expensive. The tax on gas is more then 4 times what I used to pay for gas with tax when I first started driving. Boomers remember gas was under 50 cents a gallon, it was a huge deal when the price skyrocketed to over a dollar a gallon. The government keeps devaluing the dollar. Soon it will be worthless.
They'll find ways to tax your EVs, if when you abandon ICE cars.

So they are going to add another 50 cents for emissions tax. Gas cars already get smog checked. Would it be okay to tax electric cars for emissions? My point is, do not add all these taxes to gasoline, keep gasoline prices low with as little tax as possible. Let electrical vehicles compete with gasoline vehicles and let the consumer decide which is better. What we want is fair competition.

Born and raised in So Cal, and like you, left in Jan 1990. No regrets here either. Visited 2 weeks ago and the area that I used to live in is a dump... Only my old high school friends that cannot afford to travel anywhere else in this beautiful country because they still live in that dump, will defend Calif. Meanwhile, I have been comfortably retired for a decade, travel everywhere for at least 3 months of the year, and they still have to work... likely till they are 70+ years old, and a lot still do not live in places that they own. Talk about a grim future just because they were afraid to leave long ago...
