Today wasn´t a grat day for me, when I saw your tweet about the new video I was about to cry and was feeling depressed for many reasons, I clicked to come here and while the video advanced your happiness started to spread into me, was a very good feeling, I wish you, Xyla and your friends the greatest of the joys and a very happy holidays.
It was a surprise then come to the point of the video where you both mention this could be a rough time for some people, the support of the charity you are doing just made me burst into tears like this was a message to remind me that is ok to feel a lot of things, this hit me very hard and I dont even know why I am sharing this but I want to thank you for this and for being part of my year, I discovered your channel a few months ago and since then your videos help me to think, be amazed as always with science and to smile a little more due to the great and happy energy you give on them. There is a difference between survival and endurance. The metaphor I like is pretty much any endurance race, which for me is triathlon. Let's say you are ready for the race, then everything goes wrong on the course, your race plan is a wreck, with you exhausted and hurting long before the finish line, barely able to move forward. That's depression.
Survival is walking it out, one step at a time. Endurance is grabbing every aid you can and going as fast as you can, even if it is still super slow. The difference is that with survival, you may be on the course, haven't given up, but are no longer racing. Endurance is continuing to race no matter how bad your time becomes. The completion time no longer matters: It's the race itself that matters.
Finding ways to shift one's mindset from survival to endurance has, for me, made the depressed down time "just" a tougher part of our life-long race. It is a part of my normal life, not a detour from it. It's who I am and how I live, right here and right now. I'm always "training" to improve, but it's a slow process.
To push the metaphor further, all endurance races are solo races. It's just you and the race course. You may have friends on the sidelines cheering you on, but they can't step onto the course and physically help you, or reach in and fix what hurts. Similarly, we tend to do our depressed times alone, and the race metaphor helps me minimize the loneliness I often feel when depressed. Though I'm generally unable to reach out to ask my friends and family to cheer me on, I know, as an absolute fact, that were I able to ask, they would be there. So I simply skip the middle part and envision them all waiting for me at the finish line.
Then, over time, even though we may still be slow, and we may still be unable to stick to our race plans, we become experts at enduring and finishing the race, no matter what.

Those "ugly Christmas sweater" suits/dresses were amazing, although I will admit to being slightly disappointed when the camera got in close enough for me to realize it was patterned print fabric and not _actually_ that someone had knitted suits and dresses like that. Still, all worth it for an outstanding launch of a surprisingly aerodynamic tree.

the fact that you got into this through theater tech makes you all that much more relatable. When I was in 10th grade I visited my brother at CMU during carnival and barely even partied. I dont think I went to a single proper party. I ate, slept, and breathed tech. I went there to build booths and take apart sets. I was there from Thursday until Monday morning when I went back to school. In those 4 days I think I slept a total of 5 hours. Greatest weekend of my life. I stepped on a rusty nail and its still one of the greatest weekends of my life. I'm really mad that since coming to college because of Covid I didn't get to experience any drama club and set building type stuff. I'm worried that I won't ever get to experience it beyond high school level but seeing that you have the same background as me and how awesome all the things you do are I have hope I will one day get to build stuff again

I think the Christmas tree would be one of the best ones for sure; very aerodynamic.

The best launch of anything I have ever seen, particularly liked the launch proven LEDs, taking shock proof Christmas lights to a new level.

    That was "fun!"
Perhaps, next year you could use a bunch more motors on the first stage, give it a second stage, and actually put a Christmas Tree into orbit...
"It" would give the crew on the ISS a little Christmas cheer. 💥🎄🚀🌕

Turns out the rocket industry has been overcomplicating things - no parachutes are required during landing - just use a Christmas tree!

Brains, beauty, and a great personality. Always love the energy you show when things go right lol. Keep up the awesomeness and great job on getting the tree to fly staying upright.

My brother, a niece and a nephew are all engineers. They never have any fun. They actually get worried when I blow stuff up.

Going to school in a new city and covid hitting has me really jealous of you having engineering friends. This looks like a great way to spend a weekend with friends.
