    This is amazing! I'm an arranger for mechanical organs, and one thing that's absolutely vital for the arranging of music for a self-playing instrument is the copious amounts of second (and sometimes even third!) melody lines. This captures perfectly how I like to hear melodies being interwoven with eachother!

    What a beast of an instrument - dont let this tradition die. This organ represents a time in American history when we took pride in products we builted here in the states.

      This is a Compton. John Compton was an English organ building firm, not American.

      I agree with your sentiments, but the organ is not a Wurlitzer it is a Compton, built by John Compton, most likely in Acton in north-west London. There’s a very good article in Wikipedia about the builder and his company.

      +John Leeming I beg you pardon in advance, in case my question has already been answered. Where can I find the disposition (specifications) of that organ? And, listening this march on a broadcast-grade audio system, it seems that there is a 32' flue stop at the pedal, very powerful: not only it shakes me, but shakes the whole sofa like a darn butter churn! Is there one indeed?..

      @@JohnLeeming23 Thanks so much for this information! I looked up the movie, and learned that it is quite popular in Great Britain, and was nominated for 3 BAFTAs and 1 Oscar. I also learned about the "bouncing bomb", Guy Gibson, and the RAF mission to destroy German dams on the Ruhr River. It sounds thrilling, and I understand how the British folks who left extensive comments on Imdb feel so proud of this 1955 movie and the true story it recreates! As an American, I admire this noble mission, and the people who were involved. I'm intrigued, and have discovered that, having Amazon Prime, I can actually watch the movie, which I intend to do, very soon! No wonder the music is so spirited and memorable! I love the discoveries I make through TH-cam! Thanks again!

      The orchestral score is published by Boosey & Hawkes. There are several published arrangements for brass band, wind band, piano, etc. The organ duet version heard here was created from the orchestral score by Richard Hills and exists only in manuscript.

      @@JohnLeeming23 It brought back the memories of the film and reminded me of all whom died, gave their very lives for God and Country. And Alan Turing, a man that gave his life to his country that led to his very death by the ignorance of humanity. Lets remember to value all life and never do harm to our brothers and sisters again, no matter who they are. Diversity gives our nations strength. Against all odds, the UK remains free for centuries to come as I hope for the US too.
      I've watched that film twice since my original post. . Reminds me of the friendship we share. As it goes, two wonderful countries separated by a vast common language. Look out, I'm headed for a three-peat viewing of the Dam Busters, next time follow up this overture.

      Sorry to disappoint you but that's the speed the composer chose. It is meant to be very FAST and no, it's not written to march to. The boys had it correct.

    • @Prolinium
      @Prolinium 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was NEVER written as a march !! I personally know that. Eric Coates told me !!

    • @Simon-pm6mt
      @Simon-pm6mt ปีที่แล้ว

      The score is marked “Con spirito, 140bpm”. It was written as a concert march and wasn’t intended for marching band use. All of Coates’ marches go at this fast pace. It might not be to everyone’s taste - what music is? - but it’s what the composer intended.
