Can we just all take a quick moment to appreciate _just how good_ Satoshi's English has gotten? He sounds so much more confident when he speaks now because he's starting to widen his vocabulary and pick more and more things up from Shinichi more quickly -- he stumbles over his words so much less and has fewer of those moments where he'd pause to find the right words to describe something accurately or struggle to get the words out once he landed on the best ones available to him. I'm really proud of him, seeing how far his English language skills have developed ever since our sweet, young (😋) couple first made their debut on TH-cam.

Just gonna throw this out here -- if you want your instant ramen to be a _whooole_ lot less boring, to the point where it actually becomes something you crave and choose to eat over other potential food items, my personal suggestions on how to improve your cheapo, shit instant ramen with some common household spices, seasonings and sauces; this is _the only way_ I will make and eat my instant ramen. It's a fair bit of a read, but there's a decent enough TL;DR near the bottom to get y'through it if y'don't wanna read it all. Anyway, to make your crappy ramen into my _slightly less_ crappy ramen, do as follows below:
Boil the noodles in just plain water and don't add any of the seasoning packets yet.
Drain the water off, but leave about a tablespoon or so of liquid in the bowl so now when you add in your seasoning packet(s) (to taste, of course, since it'll be stronger -- be cautious about adding the entire packet if you don't like salt, since it's not going to be watered down very much) they'll dissolve completely and coat the noodles more easily.
Now, I personally like to add a few other little things at this point, including (these will be listed again below): An optional small pinch of extra bouillon (to taste) if you know that the included seasoning packet is weaker than you'd prefer; A dash of hot sauce; A dash of onion powder; A teaspoon of lemon juice -- if needed substituting this for pickle juice also works great and tastes delicious ~if you like pickles, anyway -- (this is to help cut through the saltiness a little bit and make the noodles just go down _a lot_ easier -- in small quantities such as this the usual overall bitter lemon taste won't become overpowering); A small-medium pinch of sugar (this also helps to prevent the salt from becoming overpowering and helps to make the addition of the hot sauce not overshadow the rest of the flavours in our noodles (and if you're like me and you like the flavours behind the hot sauce you use but can't handle the actual burning when you eat it, sugar is really good for tuning down the intensity of the burn from the sauce while still preserving the actual taste behind the heat); A good squeeze or spoonful (tea or table, whichever you want to use bring it to taste) of hoisin sauce (I just like the taste of this sauce and find that it does really well with instant noodles and the seasonings that come in them to give them extra depth and flavour aside from just the seasoning packet); and finally (ignoring the obvious superior inclusion of the best toppings: crispy fried onions and/or green onions if you have any on hand), last but certainly not least -- _pickles!_ Also eggs, because eggs are godly ramen toppings, be they boiled, poached, made into an egg-dropped ramen or done soft-boiled to juuust get those soft, jelly-like yolks oozing all over your noodles, coating them in deliciousness.
It's a far cry from a proper Japanese bowl of ramen, yeah, but hey, any _decent_ ramen still has accompaniments, often times including pickled items like radish or bamboo, so in that vein even though I can't get a hold of those specialty pickles I can still be barbaric and add one or two pickles that I've cut into spears to snag with my chopsticks and take a bite out of alongside my noodles (of which the acidity also helps to cut down on the saltiness, fattiness and heaviness of anything in your bowl that might be too strong, so even if you make a mistake and the flavour ends up too strong all you need to do is nibble on one of your pickles as you're eating and it should make the rest of the noodles a bit easier to get down!).
Sometimes to save a little bit of time I tend to like to mix all of the above things mentioned aside from the noodles and the green onion together in a little dish while I'm waiting the couple of minutes for my noodles to finish cooking -- I just find that I save so much time when I pre-mix those more miscellaneous ingredients while I wait and then simply drizzle the resulting homogeneous sauce mixture over my noodles, quickly swirling a chopsticks-full of noodles around said little dish once or twice to make sure I get all of the sauce out of every little nook, cranny, crevice and corner, and then finally tossing and mixing my noodles all up so the sauce can touch and coat every single noodle in its slightly tangy, deeply savoury goodness.
Then don't forget to add your accompaniments of choice -- for me it's dill pickle spears and some crispy fried onion -- egg too, if I have any prepared already or if I'm not too lazy to cook one up -- but you can add almost anything you'd like to your bowl that's pickled or preserved and it would probably still be pretty damned good; keep in mind you don't have to use just one type, either, throw a bunch of different things in there, just whatever you think might be tasty in between bites of the flavours already in your bowl and whatever you think will help to lessen certain stronger flavours like salt and fat that make instant ramen so heavy and hard to eat sometimes.
TL;DR: So, in summary: boil the noodles plainly, drain the noodles - but leave a spoonful or so of warm water in the bowl with your noodles, add the included spice and seasoning packet(s) (and any extra bouillon stock you might want if your brand of noodles like, really suck ass in the flavour department or something) to taste, add onion powder to taste, add (preferably a more vinegary [...]) hot sauce to taste, add small pinch of sugar, add teaspoon of lemon or pickle juice, add hoisin sauce to taste, mix everything up really well so that all the powders dissolve fully and it's able to coat each and every noodle nice and evenly. Add some crispy fried onions or green onions and some pickled veggies of your choice (I go for dill pickle spears myself) to combat and break up the heaviness of the carbs and dig in while it's hot!
You can also opt to mix the seasoning packet(s), onion powder, bouillon, sugar, hot sauce, lemon/pickle juice and hoisin sauce together in a dish while your noodles cook so that you can just pour the resulting concoction right over the just-drained noodles while everything's still all nice and hot so you can mix in the sauce faster, add your toppings faster and dig in faster!
Anyways, sorry for the essay, I'm autistic like that sometimes /shrug I'unno if you'll give this attempt at spicing any normal old pack of instant ramen noodles up or not, let alone if you even have the seasonings I used or not, like the hoisin, hot sauce, lemon juice, onion powder... but if you do! If you do and you try making your noodles up this way, hit this thread back up and lemme know what ye thought of it! It'll probably take you two or three bowls to find the ratios of everything that best suits you and your own unique tastes and taste-buds, but I promise that somewhere in that mess of bits and bobs every can achieve a balance that means their usual cheap, shitty ramen will finally be something they run towards and not away from! c:

      @@SnickerSkye Wow, quite a reply!
Actually, I am quite "experienced" in the matter of instant noodles. I discovered them almost 10 years ago, with the brands that were sold at most Canadian supermarkets. Some of them were not bad, some others I didn't like at all. Overall, there wasn't much choice, it was always the same brands. Then 4 or 5 years ago, I discovered that in my city there was an oriental grocery store, and they carried all kinds of instant noodles brands. Since that time, I go there regularly.
What's fantastic is that over the years, I've managed to try at least a hundred different kinds, and let me tell you, some of these are so good that adding ANYTHING to them makes you feel bad inside, lol. I have kept the bags of every kind I tried to date, and I rate them with a number from 0 to 10 written on the back of the bag, for reference. The pile of bags is about 4 inches high, well compressed. Many of the best ones, I buy again regularly.
The ones I prefer mostly come from Vietnam or Hong Kong. Brands like OhRicey! (rice noodles), Mama (wheat noodles), or Good (bean noodles), Nissin (wheat noodles). The noodles are almost always cooked in plain water, then the seasonings are added. The best brands include 3 packets to add to the noodles: Seasonings, de-hydrated vegies & meat or seafood, and flavored oil. I regularly try new kinds, some of them are not very good but there are always gems in the lot.
If and when I add something to the bowl, it's egg, chicken, or shrimp. I don't think I'll try your pickles idea however, because I don't like the acidity.
Thanks for the comment, Cheers from Canada.

      @SnickerSkye 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@altair7001 Mama is one of my favourite brands of instant noodle! Love how many different kinds of dry or stir fry noodles they have!
The pickles thing is fair, I suppose; aside from the acidity, I also just really, _really_ enjoy the nice crunch they bring to each bite -- helps break up the squishy monotony of plain ol' soft noodles (outside of brands like Mama and others that usually come with a crunchy factor like crispy onions or other veg).

For the Song Kee noodles, the darker colored balls are meatballs. Usually its made of pork and has minced dried fish inside. Actually both Satoshi and Shinichi can handle spicy food pretty well ya. 😁
Actually Singapore does have quite a number of noodle dishes which you should try on your next visit to Singapore again. Teochew beef noodles, Hainan beef noodles (ya, completely different), lor mee, mee rebus, mee soto, mee goreng etc etc.
And seeing that you guys are so game to eat at hawker centres like the locals do, you can try heartland ones like Redhill Market, Commonwealth Crescent Market. Actually there is quite sure to be a market/hawker at most residence neighbourhood with lotsa hidden treasures not known with locals even.

Deb Anne he doesn’t speak English, he speaks Mandarin, or/and a local dialect. So, translation would be an issue.

For the prawn noodles, it’s a must to add dry chill pepper powder! The soup stock will turn a little red in colour and it tastes very much better! Try it next time.

One of you should have ordered the dried version of the prawn mee at Blanco Court. The sauce they put in the noodles is just delish, and you can have the soup served in a separate bowl (same soup that's in the prawn mee soup version )

I just realised that they would choose the soup option usually. The dry version is def much tastier in my opinion :)

Take a look at Dr Leslie Tay’s website , “ i eat i shoot I post “ he goes to hawker centres and coffee shops all around Singapore with his team of foodies tasting and rating the food, his recommendations are actually quite good
