    I also want to add that it's really great when professional musicians, meaning the one's that actually get paid something to play an instrument. To give these lessons, tips, secrets and really take the time to put out a "cookbook" because you can go down the row detail to detail, ounce to ounce teaching your recipes and there is nothing to fear. Why? You already are successful at this point. Most people will not be and the ones that are, are probably too arrogant or stuck in their own ways to care what you gotta say anyway. So, I like it, love it, gimme us some more of it. Please you bad-ass rockabilly rocking upright bass playing gal-o-Rama

    • @BamboozleHQ
      @BamboozleHQ  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Takeflight! Most people tend to use a 3/4 for Rockabilly, but if you’re exceptionally tall, a full size might be more comfortable, or exceptionally small, a 1/2 size, although this does compromise the sound a little.
      I use a 3/4, so you’d have to be REALLY small 😉 (I’m 5’2”)

    Great lessons! Keep it up. People ask about strings and brand of bass, but I wana hear more about pickups especially since there are stereo bridge and fingerboard splits out there and about tone, pedals and amps for live and recording sounds and how not to be a click-a-billy band. Please and thank yous of course

    • @BamboozleHQ
      @BamboozleHQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott, thanks for the comments!
      I’m a massive fan of the Shadow Rockabilly Pro pickup, you have the fingerboard and bridge pickups and control over both. My amp is a big part of my sound too, as it helps get a nice blend of the slap and the tone from the bass. I don’t use pedals though, although I’m considering a boost pedal for soloing live.
      Recording wise, I use my amp, but also take a live mic feed of the bass sound and blend the two.
      Any other questions, happy to answer 👍

    • @Rockinkat
      @Rockinkat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BamboozleHQ For me, my quest was the sound of Bill Black - Fred Maddox - Willie Dixon...
      The RotoSound RS 4000 set gave me the best sound up till that point, still a good go-to set.
      I was surprised how the E & A sounded (E and A are wrapped in a nickel alloy) and it didn't sound metallic or clicky to me. Learning to tame the slap makes a Huge difference too.
      I think female upright players seem to refine their technique more quickly, maybe less aggression to slap the crap out of it, which yields better speed & control.
      I traded the RotoSound E&A for Gut wound strings and just replaced the RotoSound D&G for pure guts as they broke. Guts require some love (oiling) after having the stuffing slapped out of them..
      I prefer them because (to me), they have that authentic sound & are more playable.
      Try a gut wound D first...

      Sorry for the late reply, comments don’t always show up in my notifications!
      I only started learning about rockabilly about 8 years ago. My other half at the time was in a rockabilly band, and I thought it was amazing music, I got the bug straight away.
      When I started playing bass around that time, I started learning jazz as I didn’t think I’d be able to play slap style, but eventually was dragged into a jam night with swing/jive dancers and decided it was time to give it a go. I was hooked straight away and haven’t looked back since ☺️

      Any old bass is good to start with! Thomann do a great selection of budget basses, but also a second hand one would be fine. @@ladivina3298 No worries at all. Thomann are a music shop, BUT they do have their own double basses. They also stock other brands too, most of the basses they sell are excellent quality for the price. Definitely consider whether you want a full carved (solid wood) or laminate, as they are good for different styles. Carved are beautiful and resonant, but can be a problem if you want loud, rockabilly style playing, as they do have a tendency to feedback!

    Hi. Just showed my wife this video and i said i've got to get one and her reply was......yes of course as long as i can have a top like shes wearing!! So, being desperate to get a double bass after seeing your video would you mind me asking where i can get a top like that for my wife? Not even joking!! Thank you so much, Steve.

      Hi Steve, this is brilliant, probably my favourite comment 😂 your wife does have the best taste 😉
      The brand is called “Miss Fortune”, I’m not sure if they still do that exact top, but there’s lots of similar clothing. missfortune.co.uk/
      Fingers crossed for the bass 😉
