Thermal cameras have a bunch of different use cases. There are also cell phones that have this capability. Another great use of these cameras is finding studs! You can literally see through the wall. They're also useful in automotive diagnostics as well.

The reflection from the FLIR with ligths off under the sink is probably because that portion of the trap/drain is metallic so your getting a reflection.

PVC pipe all the way to the wall. So that was a little weird. The biggest issue I had with the Flir was the delay. Twice it just completely froze and I had to restart.

30 years ago we were pouring liquid nitrogen from a coffee thing into the top of a thermal-camera atop a cart with cable after cable recording to vhs tape doing electrical inspections. Nowadays you just pull about something on the order of this Flir - Actually a fluke is more common because it needs to be calibrated every year.

Flir has an adapter for your phone just like the topdon does, it works pretty good and it's similar priced. That would have been a better comparison. All that said these small units work just as well as the larger units we had at the fire dept before i retired.

Yeah I saw that after I purchased the Flir. I wanted to compare the pistol grip from TopDon to make it more apples to apples but they said they'd only send this one. This small unit has better specs than their pistol grip version though.
      Also, thanks for your service!

    Can it find water leak?
I have plumbing problem in bathroom, drain pipe is under concrete and tile floor and water pipe is inside brick wall....
Also advice if it can detect animal inside car or van that is invisible to human.

I'd spend the money on the Flir because tomorrow there won't be any UPB-C phones and now you'll need an adapter.

That's a good thought! Just like micro USB's are now mostly a thing of the past

Those handhelds don't usually have a replaceable battery you have to solder one in when it dies.

I've got a whole drawer of cables with plugs that were used on phones that are a thing of the past, some without names I'm sure.@@ToolDeals

You have to buy a brand new processor and circuit board for the stand alone unit.
Your cell phone is an advanced computer. Of course it is going to be cheaper to add a camera to it, rather than create a complete stand alone unit.

Thermal imaging cameras are way overpriced, especially Flir.
Also, the handhelds don't have replacement batteries. You need to solder in your own battery when they die and yall thought power tools were expensive 😂😂😂

Yoooo that is a REALLY good point! No thanks! I also agree there expensive.. There are cell phones that do this. A company was going to send me one in August then reneged. I'm going to reach back out to them because they have power stations too. But their phones were like $340 with ridiculous specs!
