Meet the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Spirit

- In early 2015, seven Franciscan men, guided by the Holy Spirit, set off in a caravan from the Eastern United States to the Gila River Indian Reservation in the Arizona desert.
Called by God, empowered by His Spirit, and sent to bring his healing to souls and bodies. Let’s join together to support the spiritual and corporal work of these holy men of God. Together, we can #BecomeFire!

The Franciscan Friars of the Holy Spirit and the CFR friars are such a blessing to the communities they serve. Native Americans are so fortunate to have them and their ministry.

Has anyone heard of FR DUANE STENZEL...? He was a charismatic priest back 1971....I believe he was a Franciscan.

I wish that more First Nations people would return to their own roots, and religious beliefs rather than continuing to enable the ways and religions of the people who came and took their lands away, and did all they could to crush their cultures, beliefs, and languages...told them that their beliefs were wrong, and that they were damned..and then did worse than that and stole their children and the racism and abuse of indigenous people.
Sure, it's nice that these friars are trying to add something positive to the present residents, but it was the Church that was the destructive force in the first place. Let Christianity, and Catholicism remain with those who invented it, and leave others to their own beliefs. History stands as a testament to the damage that the foreign religions and views have done to native cultures all across the planet. Fix the rot within your own belief systems and practices.
For those who are swept up in all this, exactly why do you follow and enable those who have and still do keep you from your own heritage? The oppressors may be showing a gentler hand and a smiling face these days, but they are still effectively brainwashing you, and keeping you corralled,and away from your own identities and history. Why do you follow the stories told to you about a god and people who never walked in your part of the world, or even knew the lives your ancestors led? When, centuries later, some converts(also not from the country where this religion emerged)did find your ancestors, they told your peoples that what they believed and how they lived were wrong, and that all of your ancestors would be damned to hell they knew nothing of, if they didn't convert to this religion brought by interlopers.
The beliefs of First nations people were based on the lives they lived, in the lands that nurtured them, not the vastly different cultures and belief systems of people who lived thousands of miles away, in very different environments and histories...Really sums it up when the followers of Christianity and Catholicism are referred to and call themselves a flock of sheep...Your ancestors would weep if they could see how poorly honoured their lives, deeds, and everything that they worked so hard for thousands of years are forgotten and lost by these offspring that remain today. smh

some really good points made here... i'm personally very torn on these points. i've seen the beauty of the Holy Spirit working in the church especially in youth retreats but the shadow side being exposed cannot be ignored... ugh!
Nancy, the rotten Holy Spirit and the false prison warden they call a savior called Christ is going to get a war he will never forget. Just keep saying your truth where you can. In time, in the upper realms Jesus, and all these earth destroying life imprisoning filth will have their day of reckoning against the true eternal.
