The sad truth of the matter is British comedy used to take risks, now production companies have lost their nerve. TV production companies are now diverting more money into cheap reality TV formats and many assume audiences are stupid or not ready for a new kind of material.
They need to take more risks in my view!
Or they're purposely dumbing us down. They're doing the same with music and art.

same situation in Australia. There's one main management company that produces and represents the main stand ups and comedy content for TV. So people only see this narrow band of blandness from a set stable of comics.

You could tell Stew had more on the subject but was feeling pressed for time. This could have easily been an hour's long conversation, too bad it was less than 4 minutes long.

Isak Elwin And you sir cannot spell 'you're'. My point is that Lee tries to get around the problem that he is not actually funny by saying that it's the audience's fault, not his. A laugh is one of the few things that we cannot fake but nodding in dumb agreement to the codswallop Lee comes out with is easy.

I don't see any trolls. I see some disagreement about the comedy stylings of Mr Lee but there's no harm in that. That's called conversation.

I had a mental crisis seeing such an egregiously accommodating Mr Lee bravely cracking on, trying to get his point across, his rhetorical prow gamely splitting the mindlessly rolling swells of channel 4 offal into flecked, foamy wings of frustrated occlusion, peeling back each successive thundering roll of turds, each its own attempt to turn aside his progress and founder his good ship upon the dingy rocks of undeserved Opprobium and rhetoric-whipped sea of undifferentiated spittoon juice. What's the use of keeping up the payments on such a body of excrement, besides to aerate it with hot air and vigorous pumping of the bowels, if not to attempt to drench someone with it and roll them around with it in some kind of foul alley, well lit for broadcast once in a while? Especially if they are trying to make people laugh. Yes, that kind of muck has no business here.

Comedians don´t make me laugh, they´re boring. They just go on and on and on. Stewart is about the only one I´ll
listen to because he knows the truth, too, and tells it - these are not the days for comedians. Jimmy Carr, for example, I look at him with astonishment - he´s just not funny, he just talks grimly about himself and things and gives that hyena-like cackle. He must know he´s not funny surely?

Stewart Lee is like Bach isn't he? His comedy is like Bach's music. Though the snobs say he writes good music, actually he just couldn't write a good melody at all. Other musicians wrote much better melodies than him. What's the fuss about. The snobs are just not critical enough of his music, that's what it is. They've somehow been duped into believing that his music is wonderful and thanks to their terrible vanity and pretentiousness they're able to keep that mask alive day after day. There's actually just too much going on in his music, there's nothing to hum along to.
It strikes me also that Stewart Lee is also like Cezanne. You agree? He painted apples like everyone else, except they didn't really look that much like an apple. To be honest, they could have looked much more like apples. He was a painter's painter, his apples only really had relevance as apples to other painters who understood what painting an apple was like. They didn't actually look like the apples that you and I enjoy looking at on a daily basis.
And what about Einstein? His theory of physics seems to really be taken seriously by physicists themselves, but as it goes, I find Isaac Newtons laws of physics are good enough for my daily life. I don't find that the idea of mass curving space holds true in my day to day living. Just the other day, I put on 2 pounds and, to be critically honest with you, I found that actually the space around me didn't seem to curve at all.
If something doesn't please me immediately, I find that the best thing to do is discard it immediately. Like smoking cigarettes or eating any food from any other culture as long as that food hasn't already been absorbed into my own culture or, infact, opening myself up to anything new at all that hasn't already been ingrained in me through the habitual conditioning of my childhood. This is what life is all about.
