- JP is back for the last masonry project on our ICF Mountain Homestead build. We are installing 8 tons of natural Virginia fieldstone to cover the two sets of porch steps and 13 columns that hold up the elevated concrete deck.

Those steps look like they could have come out of some Mayan temple - incredible work. I particularly like the 'rough' edges to each side - that really sets it off.

I have to warn you, because I know from experience, the fieldstone on the stairs can be quite hazardous if you don't keep them scrubbed clean.
Mud, dirt and algae will make them extremely slick and believe me, if you think it hurts falling down wooden stairs you're in for real pain and bodily damage if you fall on stone steps
Hopefully he'll add railings.

Your house is just looking so beautiful. I am so glad that you just went ahead and built it yourself. I was one of the original people encouraging you to do so. If you remember my husband was the architect. I am sure that I am one of the original people that mentioned foam core block to you. In fact we were a distributor of it at one time. We could just never get anybody to use it in South Carolina though. We still can’t!!!
We are about ready here in a year and a half to do our build in South Carolina. You better believe we are going to use foam core block!!! Especially with the heat down here for going to sakes!!!
