The part about alarm bells is a call back to a song from their first album, Sundowning. This is a trilogy of albums that tells a rather compelling story of a tragic and toxic relationship. In the earlier song, he's mesmerized by and obsessed with a person with "alarm bells" and now he's done dancing to those alarm bells. He's done fighting off change. This is where the story starts to turn from angst towards a hope of moving on. Take Me Back To Eden, Granite, and The Apparition all have similar call backs to previous songs. This is why I highly recommend listening to the trilogy in order from beginning to end. There's not a ST song that I don't like. Aqua Regia is in my top 5 favorite songs of all time, and I'm a metalhead.

Really enjoying your reactions, like others i think you'd really enjoy dark signs but when you do its worth checking out the drumeo video of II the drummer performing it

Sometimes my understanding of the song matches with what you have and other times it differs wildly. The great thing about the band not doing interviews is its all up to you and how it makes you feel, there is no wrong answer. One of the reasons I watch so many ST reactions is to see how others interpret the lyrics and most just focus on the vibe which is cool as well. I drive my mates mad when we get together for a drink with new theories I have about their songs (they are much more into the vibe than the lore and lyrical meanings) but for me its a huge part of how I worship. What ever you want to do, its your choice. Worship!

love this song! and yeah just take the lyric descriptions with a pinch of salt. it’s just someone’s interpretation, not the official meaning.

To fully understand the meaning behind the songs you really need to know the story he is telling from the beginning. The ups and downs of a toxic relationship. Aqua Regia is towards the end of the story so it’s kinda like picking up a book 2/3 of the way through and trying to understand it. Especially since the story is not told in a linear way. Sleep tokens songs intertwine with each other so most have call backs to previous songs.

    About the English interpretation part:
I am an author. I write books. I have over 20 published.
Never once have I sat down and decided the curtains must be blue because that symbolizes depression.
That said, maybe thats why mine wont become some classic book 14 year olds are required to take apart some day in the future. Still, I was and still am very hesitant to believe the common interpretation unless the author themself wrote or spoke about such things. I will admit that many of the older tales need some cultural context to see thr symbolism within it as authors write for current readers, not ones who have an entirely different cultural experience than them. How could they unless they could see the future? So while context and cultural experience does matter, I honestly doubt many authors sat down and made every line in their book some major symbol for something else like some English teachers want us to believe.
Regardless, while the author clearly has a meaning and a reason, in the end, it is up to the audience to determine what that art(song/book/painting/sculpture/etc) means to them. That is the whole purpose of art-- to invoke emotion and engage the brain. You want people to feel and to think about what you've shown them. What they conclude from that is up to them and varies as we are all sums of our experiences, which differ from individual to individual. No two people will interpret things exactly the same and that's beautiful.

I think you should start from the beginning of their discography. It'll help with interpretations of the songs.
