Bro. 8 year old video saved my 2019 scooter with only 458 miles on it… hard time starting. I changed spark plug, cleaned carb, changed fuel filter and fuel. New battery. I was about to give up and saw the video. Paid $8 for CDI box and she started up… wow. Thank you
I was riding down the road & for some reason I drop power. I was able to kick start it & it went another 1/4 mile & it died again. When I opened it up I tried starting it again but I got this "Clanking noise" then it would just hum. Now it only Clanks like twice & nothing. I adj the Valves so that's not it. It getting gas threw the filter but don't know if it's the starter or the Carb. As I'm thinking about it, I don't think the break light comes on either. What do you think is wrong?
no spark means bad cdi usually is what videos say but no , sidestand has a kill switch for electricity , dont use sidestand when testing spark in plug.
Loftur Hjalmarsson Side stand legs kill switch doesn't allow you to even try and test for spark.
many scooters it only acts as a kill switch for the CDI and the side stand switches fail all the time, the sidestand is worthless anyway, use the center stand and get rid of it

Yeah as the guy said basically take the "FUEL IN" line to your carb, pop the end off, and try to crank your bike over. Fuel should spill out of that line. If it is fueling from the tank to the carb, and you have spark, then I would suggest taking off your carb and completely cleaning it or just buy a new carb. Then put the carb back on, hook everything back up, let it crank for 10 seconds or so and it should fire up

mine start only when I spray ignition quick start spray in it, then dies shortly after. I have to keep this process going just to get a ride out of it. any suggestions
You aren't getting enough fuel to start it. See if there is fuel reaching the carburetor. If there is, the carb probably needs to be disassembled and the passages cleared out with compressed air or maybe a strong jet of wd-40, Brake Cleaner, carb cleaner or such. When re-assembled (properly) it should run without the ether spray.

So I jus bought a racing cdi box and mine sounds exactly like yours. So if I change the cdi box will it crank? Oan I bought a new ignition coil as well.

thank you for making this video. I went to a scooter repair shop and the assholes tried to make me pay 300$ for a gas tank that I didn't need. They said my gas tank was rusted. My scooter was doing the same thing yours is doing. I bought a CDI box and put it on just like you showed here and my scooter fired up. That was easy! Sometimes it can also be the stator/ pickup assambly or the ignition coil. Before changing them you should check all connections by unplugging and reconnecting them.
9 out of 10 times if you have no spark its the cds. if your bike has no cdi look for a black squar bob its a relay some older schooters used relays instead of cdi systems. I actuly just fixed a schooter the other day for a firend that used a replay instead of a cdi. 2 different machanics looked at it could not get it running she bout it off the one o fhtem who owned it I poped in a new realy and it fired right up. now she wants to take it to the guys house and show him how a person who is a quarter the age of 2 people who have worked on bikes all their life fiex something they could not.

Twbayer2 It could be many things... Could be as simple as a fuse to wiring or even the stator. Sorry I can't help further.
What should i do if i'm not getting gas on my finger? Fuel/vac lines are clear. I think i need to either replace the carb or clean it out. Do you know of a good tutorial for taking the carb apart? I tried spraying carb cleaner into the holes but it still didn't help.
disconnect the fuel line from the carb, and crank it over...fuel should only come out when the starter is turning the engine over or running the engine.

mine didnt start no matter how long I tried to start it, I needed to adjust the intake valve, fired right up
Mine will start and run for a couple of sec then stop running I have to let it sit for five minutes and it will start for a couple of sec then stop running...

I recently bought a Lentex sprinter, and I have the exact same problem no spark on a new spark plug, should I install a new cdi box?
If you could find a scooter same model, exchange cdi for test first. To see if the cdi is faulty.
Hi, good vid. I got 4 of the Baotian version. All of the chinese engines are actually old honda replica engines. So the engine it selfe is good mechanichly. The other stuff is so and so tho. I fugured out that the Cdi`s are slmost open for moist. If you dry it out it will normally work again. So the trick is to keep it dry:-). Use a ballone or plastic bag. Also the wiring for the votage regulator is badly isolated. Normally located behind the front shield. Again thnx for good vid:-)
My Baotian struggles to start and wont idle at first. Once running for a bit it idles ok but if turned off it struggles to start again. Changed spark plug,Ht lead, auto choke, air filter, fuel filter and still same. Am i right in thinking i need to change CDI aswell? Anyone elses sorted after changing cdi? Thanks in advance.

Funny you say...its also taotao so you will need to romove spark plug before oxidation starts🫡

Did you not watch the video? He was testing what could be wrong, and by replacing the cdi he found out that the old cdi was bad
Kasey - I own a Baolima that I am sure has the same issue. However, when turning it over yesterday to try to get it started, I let the starter run for about 60 seconds. Now I don't get anything when I depress the started button. It won't turn over at all. I checked the fuse on top of the battery and it is good. changed it anyway to make sure. Still nothing. It starts fine when you kick start it. So I am left wondering if I did something to the starter? Or what else could have happened. I am trying to get back to the point where it at least cranks. Then I'll check the CDI box and spark on the plug.
Hi everyone, some f'n jerk tried to STEAL my Scooter...I found the battery cover near my bike, battery intact, but battery wires were loose & all screws are Gone. I tried to re-attach the battery wires but I'm getting NO JUICE. CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT PLEASE? I tested the battery & the tester lit up. So it's charged...did the THIEF steal some wires? The battery cables/wires are intact... I know Cars, not bikes. Ugh. Please help. Thx. X♡

the fuse is gone also lock your steering next time
the other thing could be the screws that hold the wires on the terminal were taken no clamp no start

I would say no. If you have spark but it doesn't start the very first thing I would be checking next is your fuel. Try pouring some gas in the carb or spray some ether/starting fluid in the carb and see if it will fire over that way.
Kasey Young Where would I put the starting fluid or gas? I bought a new CDI box and a new spark plug and changed the gear oil plus put other oil in and it still won't start. This morning I tried starting it and it did for a few seconds then quit on me. In the air filter or the filter on the side, seems to be maybe gas? in it. I'm not sure what the stuff is. Any ideas on what to do? Maybe a gas filter like a little thing that looks like a bobber? But I haven't checked if I have one of those yet.
***** has it started again since? Or not at all. One thing you could try is pour a little gas down the spark plug hole. That way you will know if it is starving for fuel. But yes in the air filter will work just fine for spraying the ether in.
Kasey Young Another thing you may need is a new Repay Coil.
Thank you for your video and explanation of the Chinese scooter startup problem with regard to the spark plug and CDI box. I like the way you offer that kind of a clear and simple explanation of an issue without complicating matters. I have seen many videos about the CDI box replacement, but this is the first time to see someone provide a clear photo where it is located, how its parts (hooks ups) looks like, and how it can be replaced without any complication. I wish that you could also explain for us how to replace the ignition coil and carburetor on a Chinese scooter as well as the other issues that cause problems for many of us such as how to set up the gas and fuel lines and eliminate many of the vacuum hoses that cause unnecessary leaks.
hey man ive got a bike and i adjusted the carburator it was working perfectly. 2 days later it just breaks down in the middle of nowhere and doesnt start do you have any idea why that would happen?

I replaced the coil and spark plug, I"ll try replacing the CDI box next. ANy scooter enthusiasts are encouraged to message or reply with any advice for other possible things I need to check with regarding starting my TaoTao up again. Thank you.
This didn't work. Bought 2 boxes a d my still won't crank over. Just watched another video that showed to remove the air box cover and spray carb cleaner into the intake port. Hope that works cuz changing the cdi boxes wasn't my problem
How did you figure it was the Cdi box I'm having the same problem no spark I change the coil spark plug it has fuel one day it will run then some times I will be running the it dies but just today absolutely no start and I check for spark and nothing help thanks

I have JJ50QT-13, ihave problem with engine starting, the engline is starting in the morning when the weather is cold, but when it gets hot there is no chanse to start it. Can you say me how can i fix this problem?

My burgman 400 2004 was starting later when I tried it wouldn't. Brought the bike from a friend n it had been sitting for 3yrs... Put fresh gas in but didn't change spark plug... Would that b an issue it won't turn over (start)

No good. Check AC volts into c.d.I....and volts to plug coil. That's it parts changer ! Bill

KalonMcL Global that could be bad solenoid not the cdi. A cdi very rarely ever goes out.
@@Unknown-hl7sb cdi is most common part to go out if you have stock Chinese one.

I just got a peace scooter i put to much gas in it smh. It wouldnt start took ot to the shop warrenty still good and they said it was fixed. Got bout 5 miles fown the road and it happened again what u think could be wrong. The mechanic said i was not bad. He was confident it was fixed. What do you think could be wrong. Changed the spark plug it still had the china plug in it. Any ideas would help ease my mind.

put gas in it and heres what happened, I ran out of gas and coasted for about a block, I put gas in it , and it wont start since, there s no spark or fire, camt find the cdi box. what else could be wrong, thanks for helping

Mine will somewhat start then die if I take hand off throttle but have a hard time starting it tried replacing spark plug it somewhat helped but not by much I will look into the crime box thing but how to tell if it’s bad

U would check your wires hut more importantly your solenoid may be bad.
You may have a short somewhere in your wiring. Happened to me. Some ignition coil wires got shorted to the frame by accident. I checked all my wires everywhere on the bike and found it, patched it with electrical tape and it was OK. This is especially true if you can sometimes get it to start by jostling the bike around

Chinese scooters are weird. I started it yesterdaymorning and it worked after a while but it didnt go any faster than 15 km/h and when I cranked the gas further open the engine almost stopped even after the engine was warm. So I stopped it and it never started again. First I wasn't getting a spark, but after pulling out the rear light I did get a spark but it still wasn't starting.
The starter motor sounded like it was having to do really heavy work but kickstarting didnt work either.
Sometimes it does run for like 5 seconds but then it just suddenly dies again.
anyone recognize these problems?
melted sides of piston maybe make it stiff in the bore , if you see it then sand them down l guess and maybe hone the bore with a drill sander honer whatstitcalled.
Sounds more like your carb needs a good clean.
easyer to clean the carb and often seems to glolg up glog
They also calm six pen it's got pens and also a common problem is the spark pickup igniter or pulsar they get all kind of names
I have a Schwinn sport scooter and I have replaced all the electric components and I still have no spark. Can't get the flywheel nut off ! Tried not to break anything

I had changed my carburetor, automatic choke, spark plug, battery and cdi and it still wont start?
did you check the valves? they may need adjustment. if they are off, it wrong be getting enough compression to ignore the fuel.
I sent mine to the shop and they told me, that it was a bad gas mixture stuck inside my carburetor. They also recommend me to switch from regular gas to 91.

Andrew Sybert yes most scooters will have to have the rear brake held in order to start.

Kasey, i changed out my stator, put flywheel back on, now it turns over like 2 times then quits, starter seems to go a few more seconds without turning flywheel, didn't have this problem before i removed and replaced flywheel, any thoughts? Thank you in advance

He means there's no reason to take the existing spark plug out. Just pull the cable off and put it on a spare plug against the block and you can see if you have Spark. I would guess that it's very rare that the spark plug it would be the problem.

mine will start with the kick start petal, but it wont start with the button break thing... only when i hold the buttom and kick start and mix a little gas in
not sure what it can be.... how long does a battery usually last, and do i just unscrew the lights to change out the bulbs??
