    Hey mate, out of curiosity did you have to do any additional bracing on the chassis to support the canopy and all the weight considering the amount of overhand behind the rear axle? I have a 2020 Triton GLS and have considered a canopy but the shorter wheelbase on these cars deters me a bit because of the weight issue behind the axle

      We decided it was good piece of mind to get the chassis braced after hearing too many horror stories. Got it done locally with an engineer sign off. Gave us so much more confidence when on the tougher tracks! If we had opted for a shorter canopy we might not have gone down that route but being 1650mm long decided it was worth it.

    hey mate great video! we are looking at one as well. can you let us know how the fuel consumption is with the extra weight of bar work canopy etc? also how’s the ride quality?
    thanks!

    • @RooftopTourers

      Cheers mate. There’s definitely been a significant increase in fuel consumption once we got the canopy put on and being fully loaded. As stock we got about 7L/100kms but now loaded up around the 12L/100kms. At most we might get a little over 600kms out of a tank if lucky. That’s all based on highway driving though. Can really range depending on use.
      Really happy with the suspension setup. I expected the ride to be much harsher given it’s designed to carry the extra weight, but it’s good considering. Without the weight there though it is definitely harsh.
      Hope that helps!

      @@RooftopTourers thanks for the fast reply :) that’s not bad fuel usage given the canopy etc would add a fair bit of weight! them do seem a very reliable ute which is great

    • @RooftopTourers

      @@markt9156 yeah it could be worse haha! Honestly if I was in the market to buy another Ute, I’d buy a Triton again in a heartbeat!

    Hey mate nice setup. Do you know the weight of the vehicle with the tray and rooftop? Looking at doing similar on my own triton but just trying to stay under gvm. Cheers

    • @RooftopTourers

      Cheers mate. Yeah so with the tray & canopy fully loaded, rooftop tent on, water tank filled, basically touring ready, it was 2.9t. That doesn’t included weight of Jen and I though. That’s the reason I got a GVM upgrade. It would have put us right on the line otherwise and I wanted to have the extra wiggle room to be safe.

    • @RooftopTourers

      @@willburton22 yeah I did. I struggled to find anyone else who offered a GVM upgrade apart from Pedders in NSW

      @@RooftopTourers Have you had a look at what weight you have on the rear axel? I have a similar setup and almost at the load for the rear axel and I don't have the RTT so I would assume you would be pushing or over on the load limit for the rear axel.

    • @RooftopTourers

      Good to know. Going to take it into Pedders soon anyway so I’ll have to come back to you on that one for an exact weight on the rear axle 👍🏻
