    Awesome Jane Austen July! I completely agree with you about The Watsons. Really enjoyed reading it as compared to Sanditon. And I really enjoyed my reread of Sense and Sensibility. Thanks for hosting and for making this event so terrific.

    I can’t believe how much you read and how many videos you posted for Jane Austen July along with how busy you were in July. You’re superhuman! I’m also loving The Trouble with Mrs. Montgomery Hurst so much 💜 You’re such a talented writer and your love of history and the Victorian period really comes through.

    Emma is my favourite JAs novel so far and I'm planning to reread S&S for which I had mixed feelings ... ❤

    I am still working my way through her 6 main novels. I am currently reading Mansfield Park. After that I will read Pride and Predigest (I saved my favorite for last).
    Once I have finished with those two books I will start on your newest Novel and I hope to be done before September, I have a book that I have been saving specifically so that I could read it in September because that is the title of the book.

    I read Caroline Austen's Reminiscences and I just ordered a book you suggested that I'm eager to read "Eavesdropping on Janes Austen". There are some interesting tales about the younger sons of English families who went to Africa. Have you read "White Mischief"? Austen's family had some connections with the East India Company I think other than Philadelphia"s good fortune. It took 6 months to sail from England to India in Jane Austen's time. Imagine writing a letter to someone working in India telling him that he was desperately needed at home and he would promptly arrive in just one short year.

    I ended up reading A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf for Jane Austen July, I am aware it's not contemporary to Jane Austen but she does talk about Jane Austen and the Brontes and what would have happened had Shakespeare had a sister "Judith" who was equally as talented. It provided a fascinating insight into the difficulties of women writing before WW1, Jane Austen didn't have a room of her own and would often make notes in crowded parlours and yet still produced six classic novels that have endured the test of time. A Lady's Guide to Scandal sounds intriguing.

      A great work! I've read some interesting things about the amount of work Cassandra took on to ensure Jane could work undisturbed at her writing, and it's certainly true that Jane Austen didn't manage to write and publish as much until she was more financially stable and living at Chawton.

    Gentlemen of Uncertain Fortune sounds so interesting! I love when history books dives into specifics. William Dalrymple and a co host have a podcast called Empire where they go through different empires/colonies starting with India. I didn't listen to much because it wasn't the approach I am most geared toward but it might be a good resource for others.

      I might have to give that a listen. Like I said, The Anarchy was probably too narrative a history for me, but it was really interesting. And I have now finished Gentlemen of Uncertain Fortune, and it was great!

    I love the excuse of Jane Austen July to read a lot of light-hearted retellings and historical fiction, so I can understand the imbalance! Haven't quite finished my non-fiction read yet but enjoying it (What Jane Austen's Characters Read)

    I re-read Sense and Sensibility last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Emma was the book I really didn’t enjoy at A’Level and have completely fallen in love with - absolutely brilliant. Love the sound of A Ladies Guide to Scandal. I wanted to read A Ladies Guide to Fortune Hunting - are they linked and does it matter which order they are read in?

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They're unrelated - not linked at all, so you can read them in any order. I probably love A Lady's Guide to Scandal best.
