    Hey Sauce Stache!! This is just a suggestion, but I think you should look into what Buddhist monks eat! All of them are vegetarian and they've been perfecting the vegetarian/vegan cuisine for literally thousands of years now. A lot of the food on your channel-- Saitan, okara, fried tofu skins, soy curls, etc.. are all foods I ate growing up b/c the Buddhist temple near my house sold them!

    I've been experimenting with a recipe of jackfruit chick'n, and then dipping my rice paper in a chick'n broth/coconut oil emulsion. I think the addition of the oil makes for a more realistic skin type texture and mouth feel (and flavour!). I then wrap the jackfruit in my oily rice paper skins, dip in seasoned flour and fry. It isn't 100% there yet, but I think it's an idea worth exploring!

    There's a new vegan chicken nugget product at my grocery store that I believe uses the soy skin technique. They are AMAZING! It's called "Daring Chicken." You can deep fry, air fry, or cook in the oven. I had amazing results with spraying a thin coat of olive oil cooking spray, and baking in the oven. If you could figure out how they make them, it would be awesome, as the product is pretty expensive. ♡ Hope you feel better soon! ♡

    • @lukedo6127
      @lukedo6127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Potential is always there. The authentic Vietnamese spring roll ( cha gio) uses this kind of rice paper. The issue with recreating the authentic version in US is that this type of spring roll is not suitable to store for long period. Freezer unfriendly, so mass pre prepared is out of question. Restaurant owners can’t keep the price down for this dish having somebody on the standby preparing for this cha gio. Also veggie cha gio with this rice paper wrap is much more difficult because stuffing can’t be too moist yet you don’t want it to be too dry. Require more care during frying and handle. So the difficulty kills the authenticity.

    Years ago there was a vegetarian restaurant in Boston's Chinatown called Buddha's Delight which had a full sized "lobster" that was utterly amazing. I think the edible "shell" was made with fried bean curd sheets (colored red!), and the inside was a "meaty" mix of who knows what plant-based bits of "bug guts", plus bean thread noodles that acted like the blood vessels or nerves or whatever the stringy things in crustaceans are (I've never eaten them, but I've seen others eat them). I miss that place so much!

      I eat a lot of vegan foods, a lot of plant based meats. It's the hamburger that gets me though. There are lots of plant-based burgers and crumbles and all that sort of thing that I use but every once in a while I really crave a real Burger. If I never had a really good hamburger I could probably be vegan no problem. The older I get the more guilty I feel for eating animals, I keep thinking about the time I spent on my grandparents Farm and how much I love to the farm animals even those that were destined to be butchered. I'm getting really soft in my old age the last time I went fishing which is something I used to enjoy I hooked a fish and a bad spot and was heartbroken to discover that she was full of eggs. I spent a lot of time extricating the hook. When I put her back in the water she swam away I hope she survived. I'll probably wind up being vegan.

    I wad really thrown off by what you mean by soyskin? I dunno if its just a US thing but what is it? Never heard of that in the UK. You also said the seitan is a seitan and soyskin? Are you refering to the ricepaper? Im unsure of whats going on

    • @sarahjo9975
      @sarahjo9975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soyskin is sometimes called Yuba, tofu skin, or bean curd sheets. It's a pretty common product in a lot of Asian countries. They're really thin layers of soy that form when you boil soy milk, often frozen and/or dried for later use. He talked about them more in his vegan Arby's beef video, his vegan drumsticks video, and a few others. "Yuba" is a good search term if you want to look more into it.

    what about taking the soy skins after wrapped in the rice sheet and dredging them in a KFC flavored flour mix before frying? maybe a double dredge to complete the "Chick-UN" experience? just a thought.

    A question: why the need for these facsimiles?

    • @sarahjo9975
      @sarahjo9975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the meat alternatives? There could be many different reasons. For example, some people can become seriously allergic to meat but really miss the flavor/texture, some people want tasty options for less money than regular meat, some people want alternatives for religious reasons, some people want to avoid all the hormones/chemicals the meat industry shoves into everything, some people want to avoid cholesterol, and some people just want to enjoy good tasting food without thinking about an animal suffering in the process.
      All in all, it's just really nice to have different options available if you need them, regardless of circumstances.
