Shawn, I doubt you’d remember, but my dad was an Athletic Trainer at Colorado Springs in the summer of 2004 when you were there for l believe junior Olympics. He had all of you sign a tshirt for me. He loved how excited everyone was to sign it, and that he knew I’d have future Olympians signatures on my wall, he could see how talented you all were!
This is why im putting my 5 year old boy in gymnastics this year. Hes climbing my walls and doing flips from them 🤪. Ive always hated the stomach in your throat feeling but he definitely lives for it.
I have a 4 yo and twin 2 yo, all boys. They are all fearless and love to climb. It’s terrifying, every day. I need to make a home gymnastic course or something .. maybe just pad all the walls and floors 🤣
There is a video of Shawn Doing a beam routine here on TH-cam w/ 4 MILLION Views on the USA Gymnastics channel from the 2008 Visa Championships and your landings are just CRISP, CLEAN, amazing. Chefs kiss 😂PERIOD. You are one the best gymnasts ever, iconic for sure.
I see both Drew and Jett from Shawn’s pictures. Drew has all that energy. Perhaps we will see Jett on the gym floor in the near future. Shawn remains my favorite gymnast of all time.
I feel like if you make it lvl 10, elite , Olympics… the gymnastics origin stories do tend to sound a bit similar. I was climbing trees at 18 months and flipping off of things, (beds, couches, benches) around the same time too. So it was gymnastics to burn off the energy. But even the mommy and me classes didn’t do it. So off to pre team at age 3/4 cause I was copying the big girls I saw during mommy and me class 😂
Exactly why I put my boys in gymnastics. My youngest was such a daredevil and learned the balance bike at age 2. He already has broken one front tooth in half. My other kids climbs on everything, so they're both in gymnastics and/or ninja classes.
Mom put Lil' Bro into gymnastics at age 4 for the same reason. His energy was off the charts, and he climbed everything like a monkey. He's still that way. He's in his late 40s now and has stated to train for triathlons with a goal towards an Ironman. 😂
I fell in love with it in 1976, lol, when we lived in Dover, Delaware…..we saw Nadia and then in ‘78, maybe world championships. But we lived overseas then (Dad was military) and BACK THEN , you hardly ever saw gymnastics broadcasted. Wild world of sports sometimes had it on. Unfortunately, my mom is an extreme worry wort and wouldn’t let me take classes, but I LOVED it anyways, and did “backyard” gymnastics, checking out all books from the library about how to do it and I memorized the numbers that “sports” was found in the library. Back then, no TH-cam tutorials, no TH-cam or internet or VHS videos. Only one or two TV broadcasts a year. At the most! So as a teenager, I recorded every single event I could off TV when recording was invented, and had 17 VHS tapes, each 8 hours long. (I do not still have them.) DTB Cup, Worlds, Olympics, American Cup, Mixed, anything and everything. I watched them over and over! I loved Henrietta Onodi, Daniella Silivas, and so many others and I know I spell their names wrong. Oops. I am a very passionate fan, but only learned basic stuff that I taught myself. But second or third grade gym class ended out the school year with tumbling and I almost learned as much as a back handspring, WOOHOO. But I did hand stands and cartwheels all day long in the backyard and could even do them as an adult until I fell while hiking one day and broke my right shoulder. Now I struggle to jump into a handstand. Not that anyone asked my story. 😂😂😂
Went to gymnastics class when I was younger, probably about third grade……. I went one day. There was one male gymnast there, (Kenny Chesney )and the rest of them were all girls and the girls were really good…… and that one kid kind of messed with me the whole class because he liked being the only boy in an all girl class so he tried to get me to quit basically…. When I got home, my dad asked me “what do you think about gymnastics“ I said the girls are pretty cool, but the guys are dorks(there was only one) My dad laughed kind of a strange laugh and I said what do you mean what are you laughing about? He said “ are you gonna keep doing it?” I said “yeah, it’s pretty cool. I’ll probably go back. “ He says, do you know if you keep doing it…. You’re gonna be one of those dorks.🤔 I said what else is there? Within a week or two I was in a wrestling class in third grade instead of gymnastics ------------ I don’t remember the kids name from back then (That’s probably his stage name now) But that’s who it was👍😎….. “Kenny” Fast-forward to high school ….. I’m captain the wrestling team….. me and Kenny went to a wrestling camp together in the summertime…… he was supposed to move and go to our school, but he never did…… but he signed up for the wrestling camp same as I did we wrestled together for a week in the summer……. but he never moved, and he never joined the team…… but that was him👍😎
And that, in my opinion, is why you're one of the best!!

The beam queen S J was an amazing gymnast ❤!!!

So that’s where Jett gets his fearlessness 😂

Wow, I really see Jett in the 3 yo photo of you. He seems so athletic, adventurous and fearless, just like his momma.

❤. I feel this deep in my soul.

Perfect 👌 ❤
That is why we put my daughter in tumbling. She, too, LOVES, the trampoline! They watched the Olympics during her last few classes in between turns.

Love Shawn. Had a crush on her when she was in the Olympics and still do :) WIshed she would have beaten Lukin who has a worse personality than Shawn.
wow shawn looks so much like jett
kudos to your parents for not medicating you and putting you into a more demanding activity . 👏🏻 well done
What podcast episode is this from ?
An outlet for energy? I need to sign my golden retriever up for gymnastics then.
