Awesome list. I can see it being very helpful for first time apartment renters and others to just develop good consistent habits.
I added a few items to your list in parenthesis.

    4) Washer Machine

My husband owns an appliance repair business, and using the self-clean feature is a sure-fire way to greatly shorten the life of your oven, because the excessive heat tends to wipe out the control boards. He recommends if it must be used, to do it no more than once a year... or whenever your moose chef forgets to put a catch pan under the Overbaked Alaska. Rock on, Duder!

I have one of those hanging things designed for storing them full that I usually hang onto if I ever run out of small trash bags, but I usually never run out.
I also use them when I clean out my fridge; put it on the counter, scrape food old enough to shave into it, tie it shut (and usually put the whole thing into another bag) before dropping it into the trash. Leaky garbage bags are so gross and this way I have less of those. 😁

As a woman in my mid 20s with wicked adhd, it feels so good to see such a candid approach to cleaning, especially one for a neurodivergent household. There's no shame attached to the food items that went bad in the fridge or freezer, no berating the waste of food. It is what is, it's not serving us anymore, to dwell on it is only going to cause us more unnecessary pain. Chuck it, move on to the next piece, and clean away with the weight on your shoulders that much lighter. It also reminds me that it's okay that I struggle with cleaning. That doesn't mean I'm a failure of an adult or a woman. And the clean girly aesthetic will never be me, and that's okay. I can have a healthy, happy home without it being insta-perfect. Thank you for your insights, your candor, and your humor. 🧡🧡

I've finally worked my way out of it and have been tackling most of the items you've shown for the last two months. Some additional items on my list: I took the screens out of the window and scrubbed them with a brush and rinsed with the hose, I pressure washed my entry and screen door, cleaned the horizontal blinds, the baseboards, took a duster to the ceiling and walls, wiped ceiling fan blades, cleaned the dishwasher filter, and had someone clean the fireplace chimney & dryer vent. Agree. I learned that limits on how much water washers could hold were put into place a few years back. There’s a used appliance place in my town and they sell cleaned up used appliances. I got my giant top loading washing machine from them last year for around $200 and that included delivery, installation, and a three year warranty. I can fill that big tub with hot water and get clothes CLEAN. I had a front loader for a little while and couldn’t get used to it. It didn’t seem like it had enough water to adequately clean the clothes. A lot of people really like them though. But when this washer bites the dust I’ll just get another used one with a big tub.

    • @tamaratamtammorris8151
      @tamaratamtammorris8151 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Yes! My parents had an old Montgomery Ward washer and dryer set that they bought in the '80s when they first got married. The washer lasted until I was in high school and was too obsolete to fix when it finally bit the dust, the dryer made it to college before it bit the dust and had to be replaced (too obsolete to fix). In that time since, the washer had to be replaced once because the computer in it was a lemon. The dryer seems to be doing alright though.
Our washing machine is a top loader from the late '90s, early 2000s. It has sat outside for the past 11 years, pretty much since the day we bought it and brought it home. Aside from the supply hoses, the only real servicing it's needed was a solenoid replacement when a freeze cracked the old one. It's an absolute beast, and we're keeping it till it disintegrates into rust powder

You might have forgotten that we had to wash walls because back then just about every adult smoked, and we all did so in the house. That grime from the tar was disgusting! Do you remember how that sticky tar attracted and held on to dust so well that it practically blocked off the air vents on the TV? Yuck! It was almost like it was flocked, like the inside of a jewelry box. It only took about two swipes at the wall to turn the wash rag and rinse water that distinctively disgusting yellow-brown color. We never realized how filthy smoking made everything until everyone in the family quit (and those who relapsed decided to smoke outside because we didn't want the dirt in the house anymore).

Yes, washing walls. Not because of smoking. General use, kids, and adults, hands sre naturally dirty, near light switches got dirty from normal use. Same for door frames, etc. We used very diluted spic and span (floor cleaner) and wash cloths. Works well.

Anyone who has pets should be washing their walls occasionally. The hair from cats, and from the undercoat on double coated dogs, is so cine that you can’t even really see it. But it gets blown around by the central heating/cooling fan and it sticks to the walls. (In copious amounts might I add.) I found this out when I was wiping a pop spill off one of my walls, and my rag was instantly covered in pet hair.
What a gag-inducing discovery that was! And after multiple years of cat ownership - what a lot of work to clean every wall in the house.

I just kinda started going “well this doesn’t live on the sink, it goes in the cabinet. Christmas is over, I don’t need this Christmas tree hand soap anymore and while I’m at it let me squirt some toilet bowl cleaner in the toilet and let that sit while I clean the sink and the mirror and the shower and empty the trash can”
30 minutes later I have a clean(er) bathroom. I can’t really do much with the floor except vacuum it (yes there is carpet in my bathroom and I HATE it! It’s the next thing to get replaced when I have the $).
I also told the moose to STOP DRINKING THE TOILET WATER

@onecatshortofcrazy12 I suppose, but you can often find vinyl flooring remnants or peel-and-stick tiles for cheap at Home Depot or Lowe's, if you don't mind installing it yourself. I'd paint and seal the subfloor before putting carpet in a bathroom, but I'm a bit unconventional at times. 🙃

@@ForbiddenChocolate the subfloor is part of the problem too. It’s a patchwork of whatever was available at the time, so it isn’t even. With the carpet you really couldn’t tell but it’ll show if I do vinyl
I should also mention that carpet was done like 40 years ago when it was the cheaper option

    • @ForbiddenChocolate

@onecatshortofcrazy12 that is unfortunate. Seems like a DIY project that went awry, and those are often costly to undo and redo correctly. The house I'm renting originally had plywood instead of that greenboard on the walls, which was papered over. Little surprise when there was a mold problem, and it had to be gutted. You're lucky not to have mold in the carpet after so many years. Best of luck to you.

Great video Mack, with Jason's help. You can get rid of ants in your cupboard by spraying white vinegar on the shelves. I had an ant problem in my guinea pig hutches, used all kinds of hardware store natural chemicals, nothing worked. Then I sprayed vinegar on the legs of the hutches and voila - no more ants!! Supposedly it confuses the ants, they lose their scent to travel to the food source.

Well, I didnt know exactly what kind of pepper to buy so I bought 3 kinds. Yellow, orange and regular green. I sliced em thin and placed them all over Her counters. It was a rather well-to-do Family so She had long lengths of counter top. I wish I had taken pictures because 2, 7ft counters and a 4×4 butcher board looks pretty darn cool with a million multi colored pepper rings laying across them!😊 Needless to say, the tip was quite vague and it really was calling for "black pepper"😅... but it gave all the Girls a good laugh clear into the next month and even today 20 years later it still makes me giggle my butt off!😂

Great resource! I believe that the grease trap vent can also go in the dishwasher. Another thing to consider is to use vinegar instead of fabric softener. There are a few benefits, cheaper, less chemicals, works great, but for the context of this video, fabric softener causes a lot, if not most, of the built up gunk in washing machines. I have an old softener cap and I fill that with white, distilled vinegar and put in the softener dispenser as usual. And there is no vinegar smell on the clothes either. And no gunk build up.

On Thursday I undertook the challenge of cleaning most of the 18 things in this video. What I didn’t clean was because I don’t have those items or I wasn’t able to get to them in the time I had. I worked for 6 hours on my own and hit most of the things on my list in addition to reorganizing my entire kitchen. Now it’s done and everything is so much better. What I like most about this video is it shows you where to start by suggesting you start with the items that take the longest first and let them sit while you work on the smaller tasks and also it gives you a good punch list of items to do. I think many people don’t do this because they don’t know where to start or what to, so they get overwhelmed and don’t do anything. Thank you for this. It helped me a lot.

The two drawers are for storing things that either won't fit (like my rolling pin) or things I use less often but need nearby (stick blender, tea balls, etc).
I really only want one drawer for extras, so I've got some thinking and organizing to do lol.

And the meal for the allergic person needs its' own utensils so as not to cross contaminate. So I basically have two of everything.

I've been doing accountability checks with my friends on discord lately. This week I'm decluttering the bathroom. So yesterday's check was to get rid of expired makeup/skin care stuff and today is cleaning makeup brushes. Sometimes I just need to be called out. It's also surprisingly hard to find a video on "things you usually forget to clean" so I would love more of things like this

Amazing Mack!! We just did a few of these at our place, … shower head, garbage, etc but the most needed and best task was the fridge! I put the drawers and shelves to soak in the tub, and used the apc cleaner to finish… Mack, it was so nice, clean and organized! My husband caught me standing in front of it looking inside, and said what are you doing? I told him look.. watch Mack’s cleaning channel.. he can do a spin kick, and make a moose pop out!!!!hahaha😝🤗.. btw.. we live in a cabin in the woods, in the upper northeast.. 25-30 miles from the nearest Walmart or grocery store.. the epitome of country living..!👍🤗❤️🥳

The easiest way to organize a chest freezer is to categorize by totes. Three different totes for beef, chicken, pork, etc. Three different totes for ice cream and/or desserts, frozen fruit and vegetables. You can label them with luggage tags from the thrift store and it makes it easier to send a man in there to bring in something for dinner!🤣😂😅 Also makes cleaning and defrosting easier because you just lift out a whole bag. I use cloth bags from the thrift store and for the heavier meats,I thrift those canvas,L.L.Been totes which are SUPER sturdy and can be washed in the washing machine.🙌🏻

I add cleaning the water dispenser and the dishwasher to this list. You don’t want an infestation of House Hippos in the dishwasher cause then they start bringing in their relatives. Once mother in law House Hippo moves in, it’s basically game over. You gotta move. House Hippo dishwasher infestations can be nasty.

If you have a grill with parts small enough to fit in the oven, this works for those, too. Did that once out at mom's just to see if it would work and ended up saving them money for not having to go get replacement parts (or a new grill).

NO Smell, safe pets and kills all kinds of pests for months! It costs a bit more but is sooo cost effective! We don’t have roaches but we live in Texas and have scorpions and etc. Walmart has it. Good luck with your ants!!

I just cleaned my oven yesterday (once per year) and its important to note that if you have the manual, check to see if you can run the self-cleaning cycle with the racks inside.
My oven's manual said to remove them so they don't become discolored, so that's what I did.
I cleaned the racks separately with a scrub pad meant for metal surfaces. It took a bit of elbow grease and a small amount of soap but now my oven (and the racks) are sparkling clean.

    • @LauraMacMillan-el2kc
      @LauraMacMillan-el2kc หลายเดือนก่อน

I didn’t read the manual before using the self cleaning feature on my oven and it ruined the racks. They came out rough, pitted and discoloured. And they wouldn’t slide! I replaced the 2 racks but it cost me about half the original price of the stove.
Don’t be me! Remove your racks.

Great video! I found out, after noticing a smell in my dishwasher, that it needs to be cleaned on a regular basis too. There is a screw in filter at the bottom that needs to be unscrewed and cleaned. Water also collects under the filter so I take a towel and soak up that water. Then wipe it out with a vinegar soaked rag. I also remove the spray wands, run vinegar solution through them, rinse and replace.
This cleaning got rid of the smell and cleaned those parts of the dishwasher.

OMG You have the same washer/dryer as I do. Keep those running as long as you possibly can. The new ones, esp the front loaders, are worthless and nasty, not to mention finicky with their fancy electronic buttons. Give me a mechanical timer every time. Break way less often, and much easier to fix if they do.

Before you wipe anything inside your computer, make sure you unplug and vent any power out of your PC. After pulling the powercord out, hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds. If there's an indicator light on your mother board, it needs to turn off. You don't want any residual static from a microfiber cloth frying anything

Don't forget dusting the ceiling fan blades. I always forget about that and then what a mess of dust bunnies. I thought you were going to include the ceiling fan when you did the light covers. Another thing to do periodically is to vacuum the tops of the cabinets if there is a space on top. Lots of dust bunnies up there too. Then while I have it out I vacuum around the edges of the ceiling and in the corners.
