Hey guys this VIDEO (visuals are great) --- however, when I do react -- rest assured I do watch the visuals. However on this occasion, I was complete taken back with the audio experience. I did make a comments about the visuals as and when I could ! But I am not playing where is Waldo. If you are kind enough to indicate factors in the video that mean something to you, then please do so! Music can be quite subjective. 5:42 - I make comments about the video. 10:04 - the video is good. I cover the musical scores. 10:15 - freedom of music, freedom of speech - and disclaimer if I have missed off other cues. 12:02 - I AM PERPLEXED with the video and audio combined.

15:02 - Other forces in the universe at work here. Hope that helps. A lot to take in. His voice was very captivating. Thanks for enjoying. (Copyrighted HAP3SPEAKZ) ©️

Thank you for the wonderful reaction. First time I watched this I found myself holding my breath...forgetting to breathe. If it hasn't already been suggested, I'm sure you'll enjoy the live version on Conan as well. I watched it, lol, just to see if he could really sing it live, as I'd never heard of Disturbed. Also, I was afraid of maybe ruining the experience I'd had with this song by listening to other 'heavy metal' songs by Disturbed....but I have since done so and I love them...and I'm 63! In thanks, I would like to gift you a beautiful song. Whether you tape a reaction or not is your choice...I'd just like you to enjoy hearing her amazing voice. Her name is Ailee and in this link she is performing a song called 'Everyone' on a tv show called 'Immortal Songs'. Thank you again. Liked and Subscribed. th-cam.com/video/TzvWja2Jxe8/w-d-xo.html

Experienced. That is the only word to describe hearing this song. You don’t just hear it. You don’t dance to it. You EXPERIENCE it. Simon & Garfunkel gave us the poetry, David Draiman gave us the warning.

It's 2 years on, but if no one ever mentioned it, the band spent $1 million on the video to do it right. David's family are Jewish cantors and he actually trained to sing opera at one point in his career. As I understand it, he wanted to learn how to best use and also protect his voice. Good thing. He has serious throat issues and isn't exactly a hard-living rocker now. It's all diet and health. So, late as it may be, thank you for your insights! I subscribed so will be looking forward to more. And the song is different things to different people. I agree it's about music, but also about how disconnected so many people are from each other. This is the only cover of Sound of Silence that Paul Simon approved of, or so I've heard. Thanks again!

Have always been a Disturbed and Simon&Garfunkel fan. Bought this Disturbed cd, when this song came in, couldn’t believe it. Made me cry. Sooo much more powerful, emotionally, than S&G. David’s sadness, anger and frustration evident in every note. Still makes me tear up❤️❤️

BRAVO!!!!! I have spent entire days over a few year's, watching reaction videos to this song. I absolutely LOVE this song. There are SO many different layers to the Official Video! It is Visually AMAZING! The Music and how they instrumentally grow is Genius!! David Draiman's Vocal's... First, his voice is Not Auto-Tuned as most artist's are. Then we can go into quality and clarity of his voice. It is just Amazing and I cry every time because of the sheer POWER! The Entire Presentation just leaves me wanting more. Your Reaction is one of the Best I have Seen!

It's a incredibly difficult and emotional experiences whenever I listen to this song. This song was my son's favourite song. He was such a huge Disturbed fan. This song was played as they carried my son's coffin at his funeral when he passed away last year. The listening experience of this song is so bittersweet for me...such deep lyrics and the way David sings them digs deep into you soul so thoroughly that you want to flail in them...happy memories of my son listening to this song as it boomed through the house on the highest volume and soul deep sadness that nothing will ever wash away as I remember my final goodbye to my son. Music, like all art forms, is made to make us FEEL, to elicit a reaction, good or bad, and this song, this cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence certainly does that doesn't it?
I have always been a fan of the original, however, after first hearing this rendition, which gives the song a totally different vibe (my emotional attachment aside) I kinda prefer this one now. I remember an interview, David (David Draiman lead singer) gave in regards to this song; he said that it had been a long time since he had sang that way--he usually sings metal--and it literally brought him to tears.
Reaching people through the shared experience of music, thanks Hap.

The live version on Conan is amazing! David Draiman was sick with the flu and the band made him sit on a stool to sing. He nails the performance with zero autotune!

    • @cherylparrish3755
      @cherylparrish3755 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

David admitted in interview that the Conan version did have auto tune and was against his wishes. David vehemently does not like auto tune and was very displeased when he found out that the production team on Conan used it because they were too concerned he needed the support because he was sick. Other than that forced instance, there is no auto tune used by Disturbed.

Disturbed is a big heavy metal band so nothing they do is gentle. It was a shock to their fandom that any part of a song they did was gentle. The violence and intensity as the song progresses is more their style yet served this particular song very well compared to the very placid piece it was with the original writers.

The imagery fit so well with the music, and the raw power of David Draiman's dynamic voice really set the mood and tone of the scene. This version really captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any version I've heard. Loved it since I first heard it.

I love how he actually uses silence in the beginning of the video as well as just before the last 2 words at the end. Actually using the sound of silence itself to enhance the song.
This is the only song that makes me cry every time I hear it and I play it nightly. Just beautiful.
Was thinking how cleverly they used 3 visuals/audio bits to add to the music video.
At beginning the first seen is silent just like the sound of silence .
When girl is writing the musical note his voice rises at exact same time as the vertical line rises.
The blacked out visual between the last Sounnnnnnd ( then ) of silence , it is a visual silence with the faint echo of the song ringing in the well of silence .

The original is 2 little men frolicking and talking about a dream. Too fast tempo without real meaning. I grew up with it
Pentatonix is a huge improvement but with a touch of egotistics... pretty and amazing what can be done with their voices, but sadly they're just singing a song they were given to sing
Disturbed has the true meaning of the lyrics, no ego, just pure emotion injected through the voice into our soul. The song now belongs to David.

Simon and Garfunkel wrote this about electronics distracting people from interacting with each other directly. It was meant as a warning. Disturbed's version is anger at the warning not being heeded as we disconnect more and more from each other.

  • @elenadinu7576
    @elenadinu7576 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Great reaction!! Really loved it!! 💖💖
I can tell you that I have grown up with the original, I was listening to it when I needed to relax and put my mind at ease, it's soft and melodic, but I have NEVER payed attention to the lyrics... I was like a child waiting for their bed time story not because being interested in the story, but because they loved their mother's voice...
The day I have first seen the Disturbed's version popping up on my TH-cam I was afraid to press the "play" button... mainly because I had already known Disturbed and I wasn't sure I would like a heavy metal cover. Had previously seen a few more covers and haven't been impressed... but curiosity won and... saying that I have heard the best cover ever and it goes well above the original won't tell enough about how I've felt.
For the first time in more than 25 years, I had listened to the lyrics, I had to, David Draiman's voice simply commeded that . And I got the message, in my own way, of course. Because, in my oppinion, the lyrics are now more true than ever before.
Music is, and hopefully will always be, the best human way of expressing one's feelings, from the deepest rage to the deepest love. When the instrument are destroyed and people are writting songs "that voices never share" it is like somebody is really trying to shout the mankind down, for the feelings not to be spoken anymore, or even felt anymore. It's like somebody trying to turn us into biorobots... and this is EXACTLY what's going on now-a-days. Society forcing us to follow patterns. Forcing us to stay aligned to some "social standards". We are afraid to speack our minds ("people talking without speaking") either because the others would not understand us ("people hear without listening"), or they would use our words and feelings against us in this crazy race to get better social possition, to make more money, to get possition of power and becoming the so-called "gods" playing with others' destinies, as the ppl behind the current technologies had become.
We've become more and more distant from each other, dependent on technologies ("the Neon God they've made" - so true, it was us buying their technology and giving them power over us) deaf to others' screaming for help, blind to their sufference, slowly loosing our humanity, slowly embedding ourseves in our bubble of silence, sure victims of current or future deppresios ("the darkness", the "old friend").
Now, Disturbed had chosen this name especially because they were bent to sing EXACTLY about this kind of things, about the "disturbing" problems of our society, namely, about how society is treating ppl who are different, either having mental disorders, or simply being different, individualities standing out for their ideas or ways of being.
But the thing I really love about Disturbed (and yes, they are my nr 1 favourite band of all times and all genres) is that they do more than complainig about the actual situation, they are really try to fight it. They are always trying to open our eyes and minds against any manipulation used against us. The reason their version of this song is a battle cry. Something like: "Haven't you heard the warning? Hey, wake up! Time to hear US, at least, and DO something!!!"
My oppinion, of course, no offence intended. And sorry for the long post.

I love this version of Disturbed's Sound of Silence. I have heard David is a classically trained Cantor. But there is something even more special about the original Simon and Garfunkel track that I grew up with. I love their live performance in NY's Central Park. There is just something unique about singers without autotune. I'm taking nothing away from David's incredible voice, or the way he sings it or the fact that his live Conan performance got autotuned without his approval. I just love that how before there was autotune, each live performance had a distinctive, once in a lifetime quality to it. In the audience, you felt like you had heard something never to be heard again. Great reaction!

My interpretation of the song The Sound of Silence.
This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing
it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very
long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective
of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the
    perspective of the awakened.
    Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence
Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in
the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing
something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted
the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware.
In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone
under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the
dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in
the armor of dark, a tear in the matrix, if you will and in that moment they
saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
    No one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence
And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds
    (awakened Ones) telling
those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy
those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle
    way,
but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of
    being attacked
by those that controlled the sound of silence.
They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not
to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became
aware of theLight/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time,
    it really pissed them off.
"Fools," said I, "You do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them
Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead
remained in the sound of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence."
The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the
things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet.
They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by
consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through
their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the
people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship
sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?

I find this video extremely moving. It starts so dark and post apocalyptic but ends sooooo much hope. Lone individuals traveling find each other then signs that there are others. When the groups see each other across the water…one with the instruments and the others with the words and music… then come together on an ark… it brings tears every time. David Draiman’s interpretation with his voice is unrivaled but he knocked it out of the park with the video as well.
We didn’t listen to the warnings. Too many worship the ‘neon gods’ that are tearing us apart and lead to destruction but if we will bring our gifts TOGETHER and share them, we can start again with hope.

Welcome to the club... (written 55 years ago)
This song is AMAZING... probably the most popular reaction song E V E R !! The crazy part is this is so far from what it is that Disturbed does musically that people of any music genre were/seemed (bewildered?)! 100% of all the people that watch this video thought to themself, "What the heck am I experiencing here?" "Who is this Man?" "Where have I heard this before?" "Is this religious/spiritual in its nature?" (lol) and then once the song is over? (speaking of the sound of silence) almost all had to gather their thoughts and ponder many mixed emotions! How Davids phenomenal vocals were either never known to them or if known to them... What the hell this was? The sad thing was when watching the official video... many (did I say, "Many?") focused on his facial expressions and piercings; the dark imagery was intentional as well as exceptional! Was this a fluke? Not at all ...but... this was totally unexpected by the world of music as a whole!! WATCH THE CONAN LIVE PERFORMANCE !! ~just like Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" - these songs which are covers... are now theirs!!

This song is about people disconnecting from one another. "People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening". It was written by Paul Simon, of Simon and Garfunkel, in 1963/1964. Art Garfunkel revealed the message of the song with the following: "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."
It's an incredibly insightful song, as it was released nearly 60 years ago (1964) and here, in 2020, you see people walking around with their faces buried in their cell phones; Playing games, talking through text messages (again, talking without speaking, hearing without listening) and spending so much time in front of the television...And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they'd made.
Since someone else will 100% post this, many people take the original version as a warning about the dangerous path we were heading down and this version as the anger over the warning not being heeded.
Also, for the record, yes: Disturbed IS a metal band.

This is a cover song. The original artist is Simon and Garfunkel done in 1963.
It was written by Paul Simon
It was about the assignation of Bobby Kennedy and he was trying to tell people to love each other but no listen and this is his version In anger because no one listens, And it pretty much tells the future. People talking with out listening (texting)
    Great reaction

Umm... Bobby Kennedy wasn't assassinated until 1968. Maybe you meant the President, John F Kennedy?
I heard an interview YEARS ago, and Paul said the meaning wasn't anything deep or profound. Here is a video that is pretty accurate to what I heard. th-cam.com/video/9cc5SW5ia9s/w-d-xo.html

So glad you reacted to this!! Loved hearing your thoughts. I had never heard of Disturbed before reaction videos to this song started showing up on my youtube feed all the time. I finally gave in and watched a reaction - now it's on my must watch list with Queen's Somebody to Love Montreal and Brian Justin Crum's Creep on AGT. I have an emotional reaction to all three songs no matter how often I watch - and I watch often! The dynamics, the emotional build, in all three have me hooked.

The song is not the music it is the words. The story he is telling is the #1 thing. When Simon and Garfunkel did this song in the 60's. When Paul Simon wrote this song it was just after president JFK was killed. The song was a warning of the way we where living. Disturbed version about the rage that we did not listen.

  • @Suzy3223
    @Suzy3223 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I looked up the meaning of the song.. and this was so beautiful., Art Garfunkel helped his friend who was going blind when they were in college. Art Garfunkel called himself darkness to show a bond with his friend., so his friend called him darkness. Thus, "hello darkness my old friend".
The song was a tribute to art Garfunkel for helping him so much, he did go blind but never forgot what art Garfunkel did. The song.. in many ways is what his friend felt losing his sight. There’s more to the story., but so beautiful.
