Worked on there a few years so was good to see the place again, The maximum anyone can go offshore for is 3 weeks in the uk but the operations staff work 2 weeks away and 3 at home. Be plenty of other platforms coming to end of life soon so you may have a few more to explore
Worked on the Charlie in the eighties and nineties....memories of working down the legs to the gas tight floor still give me a chill....but lots of memories of some good lads....rough weather and the gangway to the to the safe gothia being lifted on a regular basis....the late wednesday flight 23 to sumburgh and the Vickers discount to Aberdeen....the chinook tragedy and the 61 hitting the brent spar....and the loss of life which puts it all into perspective.....the sign as you came off the helideck wish said "welcome to shell brent charlie" and written under it no matter how many times it was painted ovet, one of the lads would write "we take the hair off a dead man's balls".....which just about sums up shell
I was on the brent Charlie the day it happened and recall the mood of horror and sadness at the loss of life. Fortune was with you that day because the routing of the 61 was changed on route from initialy landing at the spar first to the Polycastle in order to pick up jet fuel. Fate can be cruel and kind.
I spent 13 years out at sea, various drilling rigs, some platforms like this but as I remember being told, this was one of the bigger ones. Good to watch. 👍🏻 At 7.07, that's the drilling Derrick. Imagine the paperwork to cover them for drilling for the oil on one part of the platform whilst producing oil on the other.
31:39 that could be a Mud Pit, looks like for me . If there were drilling operations on this rig but cant see shaker or fluid mixing stations there. Perhaps someone who worked on the Brent Rig could tell us =) whould be amazing.
Excellent explore there into offshore working very interesting look into what life was like on the rigs, I used to know someone who worked on these and they would spend about 6-8 weeks out there then when crew was switched you got that amount of time at home on very good pay the person I knew would get flown back to Humberside Airport in the helicopter then get taxi from there home for a nice 2 month break till next crew change.
@@tubs967 not on a platform in the uk max you're allowed by vantage is 3 weeks except with dispensation for 4 weeks which i've done twice, Must be on wind farm or supply boats or a vessel of sorts?

Just drove past this today in the truck and they seem to be cracking on with dismantling it
Thanks for update, roughly how much has been dismantled and is the helipad still intact?
There are so many oil and gas platforms in use as we speak that are in the same condition as this one inside and out sadly.
@@Scottishscruffybikertriestofix wow I couldn’t imagine working on these
