The bar from Bugs Life had less bugs than these places.
And it looked more sanitized as well.
omg! that was my favorite growing up and antz hahaha i had the candy and cereal and the toys! good times :) but yeah these bars were gross. i can only imagine the ones shutdown now due to the virus. the bugs and such collecting in those empty buildings that had bug issues already...but even the open ones now and people getting sick from being in them with the bugs.

I worked for Chilis… I’ve seen these bottles get strained and used anyway bc the bugs were ‘pickled’. A couple of times, because the bottles were below us, that we would crack or break the top of a bottle and they’d strain the broken glass and still sell the alcohol just to save money. They also worked as few people as they could on a single shift to save money too which put servers and cooks in a bind no matter how good they were or how hard they worked.

I saw one today on the roof
In the apartment I ALMOST moved into, it was one of the newer buildings, real big and real nice but something was off... it was so cheap. When I went to look at the apartment it was nice, floor plan was correct on the website but something was off about the smell and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I saw a couple roaches but honestly, nothing out of the ordinary. I went with my gut and bailed.
My friend (about a week later) got the apartment I turned down. Within a couple weeks she was INFESTED with roaches, she moved the fridge and there was cockroach shit caked onto the floor. Not spotted, it was a thick black layer of shit.
If you’re ever worried about roaches note this:
1. You will SMELL them. They are filthy creatures.
2. If you see one or two, be extra careful. Don’t leave food out AT ALL. It doesn’t take much for an infestation to begin. Wipe counters after using them, don’t leave dishes in the sink etc.

Ants are attracted to sweet things, and sometimes during the summer they decide to have a pool party in the vanilla Frosty machine, so we periodically check throughout the day to make sure that there isn't any in that machine. If we catch ants hanging around, we shut the machine down and give it a good clean, and usually we won't use it for the rest of the night (and yes, we throw out the contaminated mix)

Grew up in Austin and the roaches there are ridiculous. Texas heat and winters makes them come in from the outside round the year and it’s really hard to keep them out especially in large establishments like a bar with outdoor areas accessible.
That being said all my jobs we dealt with them and managed to never be as bad as Headhunters looked !!! What a shady man!

It's called cleaning before health inspectors show up. You get it to the point where you can safely pass and then don't care for the rest of the year.
Most cities are severely underfunded for health inspectors. Each inspector is inspecting several places a day, not enough time for a thorough inspection. Just clean everything the day before and make everything shiny on the surface and you're gonna pass pretty easily.

When I was 15 my friends dad bought bar, they lived in the apartments above it. The bar wasnt ready to open yet, and it still had old bottles of liqour from the previous owner. There were fruit flies floating in the bottles. We took shots when he wasn't around 🤣

I used to drive a lunch truck, complete with a grill- think of it as a “mini-kitchen” on wheels. Very first thing I learned, clean that “mini-kitchen” everyday-not hard to do especially if you have the right cleaners- because if a customer sees one thing or tastes something dirty, they will never buy from you again. All these owners need to step up their game.

@@rickeyritchie6606 fun fact, there is a legal amount of insects and rat droppings food being sold in stores is allowed to have and it's greater than none. As long as it's under the limit it can be sold without legal issues because they deem it safe enough. As the other guy said, you can consume it and be fine it just he and I agree they should be held to better standards regardless. You don't have to explain anything considering you didn't fully comprehend what they said anyway. He never said it wasn't a problem he just said you probably won't die from it and that's why they get away with it even though they shouldn't be able to. You definitely eat bugs all the time and don't even realize it. Everyone does.

Headhunters...that bar actually closed a while ago, and the owner (Steve) was screwing his former employees out of their paychecks they rightfully earned; they threatened legal action as they should have. As for what happened to them, anyone's guess.
