Do you Think Pete & Bas write their lyrics or does some one else write it? Watch the whole video before you vote. Vote 1 - Yes they write the lyrics Vote 2 - Someone writes the lyrics for them
Listen to the fucking songs. No way a 20 year old is writing that shit, with those kinds of references, also from the perspective of a 70yo man. Why if you could write that well would you give songs away? Doesn't make any sense. These guys come in at a fresh angle, and do it every single song. No one else in the game like it. They've been at it 7 years now. They've listened to enough rap to know what they're doing.
Pete and Bas mentioned on multiple interviews that they write their own lyrics (one video shows Pete with pen and paper writing lyrics) and their grandsons do the production, the beats and help with the slang. Their grandsons are also rappers (Nine and Dex, also known as 91 Shots and Handsome Dexter). Take into account that Bas is a jazz musician/composer/arranger. Pete was in a Ska band. They know musical structure. Bas with the jazz chops understands scanting (the basis for rap). This explains the many flows they turn out. Slap the Stick is a Doctor Dre flow with Timbaland sauce. Stop it!
thats their grandsons, pete and bas write their own lyrics, but their grandkids help them with the slang, but yes they writew their own bars, Baz was a music teacher, and is a piano player. hes been in the music business since he got out of prison for illegal bare knuckle fighting organising a lot of peopel dont realise bas is a very accomplished musician in his own right
All you’ve got to do is listen to Nine and Dex’s own music, and the lyrics are nowhere near as sophisticated or intelligent. Pete and Bas’s bars are totally the bars of smart old guy bars who are familiar with modern culture. Also just go listen to Pete and Bas’s early work, and it is so much less sophisticated. There is a clear progression and improvement over time. You’re just wrong. They sound like young person lyrics. They are Nine and Dex, Nine-One Shots and Handsome Dexter, their beat producers.
I don't think to many kids are dropping Nina Simone bars. Feels to me something an older person would write. I think they have a heavy hand in what they write which is apparent in their delivery. I'm sure a lot of artists who write bounce ideas and get inspiration from family and friends. That doesn't mean they don't write their own stuff. So I'll vote 1 here.
The two guys on logic are handsome Dexter and 91shots (nine and dex) who have made 99% of the beats. It's also not the first time they been in a video. Listen to nine and dex - pecan pie you can hear the pen haha
If that's the case why do they only have two tracks. Pete and Bas write their own bars. Their grandkids just wrote down some slang. Also the pen sounds awfully different to me. As somewhat of a barrest myself. On top of that Bas is a musical teacher, and an accomplished pianist. He has plenty of talent enough to write a few stansas. He's been in the musical industry in one way or another since he got out of prison for bare knuckle boxing, and I'm almost certain Pete has some affiliation on the block. So they have the talent and experience there's no reason they couldn't write their own shit. I don't know why people can't give just them credit for it. Probably makes them feel bad seeing an Og do it so easily. I don't know who told you progress ain't a slow process, but there full of it. Everything gets easier in time, and rome wasn't built in a day. Why would people think that just cause they're younger they could do it better. They've been a student of the game since you were a swimmer in your daddy's nutsack, and I can respect that. I get it though. A haters going to hate. Always.
There is a maturity and a lifetime of experience in most of the bars these guys spit out that those boys could never come up with. It's just a really great collaboration that I'm glad happened. btw, I'm 59 and I can't get enough of them. I usually have my reaction channels that I follow to see what they're listening to today. Now, it's me reacting to reactors reacting to Pete and Bas. I could probably start a channel. "Hey everybody. Thanks for popping by. Today we are going to react to reactors Audio Lunch reacting to Pete and Bas, Slap the stick." I can't get enough of the first time reactions and you all do the same thing. First, you have that look of disbelief and stop the video. Then, you all have all either have your little freak out, or you sit there with jaw on the floor, and rewind it to the beginning because, "I wasn't ready for that". Then there's all the doubt...are they wearing masks? Is it them really rappin? Do they really write their own stuff? I can't believe how entertaing it is but here I am. lol
Who'd have thought that life experience and 70 years of using speech and language might actually be quite useful for a rapper. Whirlybird is such a flex 💪 🚁
Barny and Jon AKA (Dex and Nine) are Pete and Bas grandkids. Pete and Bas have never denied that Dex and Nine help with current word usage. They do write the majority of the words of music.
They write their own lyrics, but their grandkids give them more up to date and relevant words for todays society. They did an interview where they stated this.
literally they talked about it. they come up with the concepts and what they wanna say but their grandsons help them with the new age lingo. Its their grandsons as producers and they have their own music so
Its a collaborative. They have to have input aint no way some young ghostwriter can become these 2 old gents and write lyrics specifically for each one. these guys come from the era where poetry and writing were still a huge thing. Not from the era of ghostwriters.
They are independent artist for God sakes. Those guys in the background are the effing engineers. There’s actually interviews and video that show Pete and Bas writing their lyrics.
These guys were in their 30's in the 70's, and if you were older you'd realize that the UK has gangsters, too, and the 70's were wild! Current slang is the only thing they're getting help with! I saw something that said Bas' family ran an illegal bare-knuckle boxing ring.
They're my new favorites. I went down a rabbit hole and I discovered they were in a whole group called The Snooker Team. Look for Window Frame Part I and then Window Frame Part 2. These tracks are from four years ago. Gird your loins - those videos are a great time. Norman Pain who sometimes raps with them in a geriatric menace!!
The story has always been that 9 and Dex produce, and supply the modern slang. But who the hell knows. Maybe Snoop Dogg goes to Diddy parties and has an old German man writing for him. Anything is possible
There is a difference between "do they write their own lyrics or does someone else write them?" and "do you think they wrote it with zero help?" They've said many times that the grandkids helped them learn current slang, but that was in the early days. They know the lingo now. Do the grandkids know the old-school slang? I seriously doubt it. The younger guys in the video do the beats and the production. P&B write the bars - but not "in the booth" like you said. Have a look at Longthorn Shotgun and see their process. As others have said, P&B did some freestyle live on their tour. Find some live vids, they change up the inflection and other stuff. It's obvious they are doing it live. Just because these two old pensioners are talented than you doesn't mean it's impossible that they're this good.
There grandkids help them with slang and produce the beats, but besides that they write their own shit.Bas is a musical teacher, and an accomplished pianist. He has plenty of talent enough to write a few stansas. What I think is Pete and Bas come up with what they want to rap about, and maybe some key words, then their grandsons come in and help put together the lyrics and flows. Think of it as a collaboration. I do think they play a part in the lyrics but not fully. Go check out Nine and Dex. Those are the grandsons.
why people is so hard to accept that old dudes can have bars too? 🤨 they live longer than us, saw and heard more things than us younger folks. even my granddad sometimes drop bars when he talk.
why r u getting vexed about them being the engineers. whi doesnt have producers, writers, or otherwise .. and its their GRANDSONS?!Ive never heard of a more gangster move. Keep it in the family. I do not care if they wrote, designed produced or any of it. They didn't give their grandpas swag, and they let them have the spotlight first. Gangster.
Just do some googling, they said they get help from their grandkids on writing songs etc, which is the 2 guys in the video. They also have their own stuff look up 'Pecan Pie'. And honestly who cares, even if they don't pete and bas are amazing no matter their age.
Just so everyone knows Handsom Dexter = 9 or a 9 which would make someone handsome if they were a 9/10 Then Dex = Dexter = 9 and dex or 9 = handsome dex= dexter or handsome dexter
The two young guys are their grandsons, 91Shots and Handsome Dexter, credited as producers on most Pete and Bas songs. They rap under the name "Nine and Dex". There's some videos of them. I'm pretty sure Pete and Bas write their own lyrics after seeing some of these.
I think people have bought too far into P&B writing their own lyrics. The style is so close to Nine and Dex and so many of the references are too modern to believe they came from a 70+ year old... "Fill his head like a mukbang" "puff me sours" "thicker than Nikki Minaj behind" and so on. I get why people want to believe it and I can believe they have some input but I don't buy the claimed ratio of help where they do most of the work. That's not even a criticism though as so many singers and rappers have ghost writers. They still deliver brilliantly, and deserve respect for it.
Either way, the discussion of whether they wrote it or not is getting old. No evidence will sway anyone's belief in either direction and it takes away from the enjoyment of the entertainment we're watching. Can we accept it for what it is, excellent music? Does it matter in any meaningful way who wrote it?
Its amazing how some people think once your old you cant do nothing 🤦 yeah they're old not feckin stupid once you hit 60-70 all you can do is sit and drool apparently
If you don't think they write there own stuff then I'd advise you to check out 3 songs from them! They are called bermondsey! And quick little freestyle and pint and a fag! If you STILL think that it's not them after you have checked them out then I'm afraid to say you r very biased and deluded and won't give them one ounce of respect no matter what they perform! there is no way an outsider is writing these masterpiece,s for them their old skool street patter is too fire for an imposter to understand! I'm from the u.k and even I struggle with some of their street patter but I LOVE it to bits because I'm learning more and more cockney rhyme!
You said if they write the bars they’re better than 90% of the rappers out there. Think about what you’re saying for a minute. If someone else is writing the bars, where are the other rappers out there with bars like this? Where are the other artists they ghost write for? Why aren’t they putting their own stuff out there? You know it’s them because no one else is doing this.
Perfect comment. I think a lot of people from across the pond also don't realise that a lot of their lyrics are actually British slang terms, plus the fact that Brits often use symbolism, irony and double meanings in their everyday speech, and play with words in a way that those in the US rarely do in the same way, Cockney rhyming slang etc In the US everything is more obvious. There's no ambiguity. So they percieve this as some sort of skill that only a few people could possibly have, whereas Brits just enjoy the music and respect the artists. We believe them because we know of older gents like these and so much good music has come from the UK. Also, people of a certain age in the UK can be naturally quite creative and poetic and often have a wider vocabulary than younger people. I think this guy thinks older people just sit in a rocking chair with slippers on, waiting to die. He can't just accept their talent and ability. Ther's more behind it for him clearly...
They write their own lyrics. Their grandsons help them with street slang, but no one writes their lyrics they write their own bars. Ain't no ghost writing here, buddy. Your friend is ignorant and can accept that these old men are out rapping this entire new generation.
They do not write their lyrics. They also do not rap them. It’s actually Nine and Dex. The two producers in this video. They have no relation. They are not their grandkids. Stop being ridiculous. Dex is actually Bas and Nine is actually Pete. Sorry guys I know it sucks to hear. But it’s the truth.
Dude on the left is really starting to get on my nerves just shut up and enjoy them for what they are. Does it take away their talent if Dex and Nine help them write? They still sound banging, better than anything u put out I bet
Who cares if they wrote their own lyrics, partly or wholly. Why the double standard? Because they're old? The music industry (that is most promoted) is ABSOLUTELY trash, AND the artists don't write their own lyrics - because they're too dumb
@AudioLunch Your vote question is rigged. You said vote 2 if someone helps them write lyrics. Then in the comments you said vote 2 if someone write the lyrics for them. These are 2 very different things. And Pete and Bas have always said grand kids help with modern references in the lyrics. So you whole vote is pointless and misleading.
Great reaction, Pete & Bas are fire! Wether they write the lyrics or not the delivery is on point and they have the attitude to match. Athough of course I don't really know, I vote 1 with a bit more explination. The two young guys in the video are their grandsons, Nine (Ninety One Shots) & Dex (Handsome Dexter). Their grandsons are their producers and come up with those awesome beats. As far as who does the writing for Pete & Bas it is all just speculation but in an interview they said that they write the lyrics themselves but get current terminology and slang from their grandsons. Nine and Dex are also great rappers and write their own awesome lyrics. You can definately see similarites in the music as well as the cadences and flows of the two groups which makes sense because Nine and Dex produce the music for both groups. However, when you listen to Nine and Dex the lyrics are definately more youthful. Whereas the lyrics in the songs by Pete & Bas definately have more of an old school, street wise, been there done that kind of feel. You should check out Nine and Dex they really do warrent a listen. Who knows after you hear their stuff one or both of you might change your view on the writing. Give a listen to the following Nine & Dex songs "Pecan Pie", Ignorant Sh*t" and "Jesus Piece".
Mostly 1, I think they get some help but do a lot themselves. The reason people even question it is because they are older gentleman and people don’t think they should be able to do it, but they also shouldn’t be rapping this good. So if they can rap this well and have such a distinctive style I don’t see a reason not to take them at their word until there is proof otherwise
I think Nine and Dex help them with newer terminology. But the mix of new and old-school slang is what makes it even more incredible! It has the ability to transend and entertain multiple generations. Who else is doing that?....I'll wait...
2 - Family collaboration for sure imo. They influence each other with all of their penciled ideas, Pete and Bas most definitely write They all probably write and collab on the process. Unlocked the garden gate to get that high education. Good times no matter what it is.
Their grandkids released their own songs. Not even as banging as pete and bas but......the question everyone should ask is the voice? I went to see them live in Bath (uk) just last week and there is definitely moderation
The answer is 1 and 2 They all write and get no outside help Pete and Bas get to choose the music in the songs too, but sometimes they get it wrong and let the producers decide. This is clear after watching several live streams they did a few years ago. Sadly deleted now 😥
1. Pete and Bas write their own lyrics. Those 2 in the background are the grand kids Handsome Dexter and 91 Shots. Go watch Nine and Dex and tell me those "kids" are writing the bars for Pete and Bas. Pete and Bas have much more depth and badass bars than Nine and Dex. Also Pete and Bas have been making music for several years longer than Nine and Dex, they have almost 40 songs, Nine and Dex have like 4 lol.
Do you Think Pete & Bas write their lyrics or does some one else write it?
Watch the whole video before you vote.
Vote 1 - Yes they write the lyrics

It's their grandsons. Check them out they sound similar. Pete and bas write their own lyrics with help from their grandkids for current slang etc.
All you’ve got to do is listen to Nine and Dex’s own music, and the lyrics are nowhere near as sophisticated or intelligent. They sound like young person lyrics. They are Nine and Dex, Nine-One Shots and Handsome Dexter, their beat producers.
This. Those grandkids just aren't up to that level (yet).
100% was pecan that cemented it, like a flashback to when pete n bas were young 🤣

I'm 63. They use words as old as I am. What do you have against older folks? They have some live videos and interviews.
Most of their references go over people's head because they spit about things the young are clueless of.
I don't care about the question, but you guys need to react to more of their songs. You haven't done some of their best ones!

1.5 - vote disallowed 🚫
Its obviously 1 but i gotta say the fact hes so skeptical is a testament to how great their pen truly is.
Jealousy on there writing skills is a terrible look on you bro, 😂😂😂😂 there is so much old school London slang in there songs.
But it’s the truth.
watch longthorne shotgun and youll see
Dude on the left is really starting to get on my nerves just shut up and enjoy them for what they are. Does it take away their talent if Dex and Nine help them write? They still sound banging, better than anything u put out I bet
Disrespectful accusations
Who cares if they wrote their own lyrics, partly or wholly. Why the double standard? Because they're old? The music industry (that is most promoted) is ABSOLUTELY trash, AND the artists don't write their own lyrics - because they're too dumb
Who gives a shit? Either way you still have to execute the song and most people couldn’t.
Number 1. They are 🔥
@AudioLunch Your vote question is rigged.
You said vote 2 if someone helps them write lyrics.
Then in the comments you said vote 2 if someone write the lyrics for them.
These are 2 very different things.
And Pete and Bas have always said grand kids help with modern references in the lyrics.
So you whole vote is pointless and misleading.
Pete and Bas wrote the lyrics and they ride the beat and flow always
They are better then 95%better then any other😂😂❤❤
Great reaction, Pete & Bas are fire!
The two young guys are 91shots and handsome dexter. Dexter is the grandson of pete, i think, and both of them engineer the tracks and build the beats
The answer is 1 and 2
They all write and get no outside help
Pete and Bas get to choose the music in the songs too, but sometimes they get it wrong and let the producers decide.
This is clear after watching several live streams they did a few years ago. Sadly deleted now 😥
I mean this with no disrespect...but the fella in the hat aint that sharp...🤔.
It's closer to 50 in total 🤯
Do Longthorn Shotgun, they are on screen writing the bars. Not that that's evidence but it's definitely the portrayal. Good song too.
