    Worked GREAT! I built your PID and was not really happy but used the PID for temperature and PWM for control. Love it ! I do like LPG best but heated the whole room, but the 5,000watt/220volt heating element only heats the pot(for the most part). I did upgraded to WPM 50 amp/10,000watt unit. With the 5,000watt heating element ,it ran at 20.5-22 amps , so it best to upgrade if you running the large 220volt elements. Again Thanks

    Hi George. I've been attempting to build one of these but in a 240v version but finding a regulator and potentiometer in one unit has been difficult. I'm on a 3 wire setup (white, black, and green) and instead I'm using a SSVR relay and separate potentiometer. I want to add a main power switch but unsure of where to wire it in; before or after the relay? I have a SSVR relay, potentiometer, volt/Amp meter, fan and outlet in the process. What would you suggest?

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing

    I’ve searched high and low for this PWM. I cannot get the 20A one with a fan. I can only find a 50a one with no fan. Will the 12v power supply and fan you use for the PID build cool this PWM sufficiently when it is mounted in such a way that it blows across the PWM?

  • @STILLinCANADA
    @STILLinCANADA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    George, not sure where to add this request, but would this PWM work using solenoids to control the flow of water through the Dephlag or is there a better controller for that use? my unit is quite high up and I would rather control the flow in my power box.

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing
      @BarleyandHopsBrewing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The PWM could be used to control the water pump but not a solenoid. The PID can control solenoids and would be a good addition to your set up. You could set the PID to operate your water flow through the dephlag.

    George, I'd appreciate it if you could provide a parts list for doing this same thing with 220/230. I've looked around the homedistiller forum, and there's so many individual projects there I just get confused. I have an extra 220v outlet in my basement for a stove, and another right under the electrical panel in my garage. Previous owner had an RV or a welder or something I guess. The receptacles are bigger and a different shape, the power cord would be much larger, etc. I just need a list of parts that would work together, preferably from someone who has done a number of these boxes like you have. My kettle is 13.7gal, I'd like to run it off one 4500-5000w element, and I know from an electric smoker build that the regular 15amp breakers/110v service in my house is not sufficient.

    I asked this question before and got no answer, a pulse width modulator I'm guessing, is the same as Silicone controled rectifier, the unit I have has two buttons, one button turns the power up and the other button turns the power down ( +or - 0 to 100 % power) and it has two power wires in and two power wires out just like your PWM, can I run the two power out wires to a PID controler, in this configureation I want to cuntroll the power going into the SSR with the SCR so I essentially control how much power goes into the heating element and at the same time controll the temp with the PID. Will this work or will I have problems? AM I telling this right?

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing
      @BarleyandHopsBrewing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion you would be working against yourself trying to use a PWM in line with a PID.

    Be careful with superglue and electronics. I once designed and built a piece of test equipment for a man that fancied himself an engineer. My product worked very well until he superglued all the ICs into the sockets. Cyanoacrylates creep with moisture, and my test box was converted to a very expensive paperweight. Superglue is volatile and can migrate throughout a container.
    Cyanoacrylates have a surprising application.. They are better than stitches for closing a wound caused by a sharp implement. Superglue can bind the edges of a wound together better than stitches and is commonly used in dental surgery.

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing
      @BarleyandHopsBrewing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim,
      The use of super glue is only to secure the frames if they need a little help. I would not recommend anyone use super glue as an electrical contact adhesive.
      If someone cuts just a little too much out and the frame fits but is relatively loose, a little drop of super glue can help secure it in place.

      Question relative the math. I have a Brew Haus 1500 watt element running on a 120volt setup. What should the max Amps through the PWC for the element. Google says 12.5 but I am maxed out at 11.8 and 115 volts according to the display. Is that "close enough" and just a product of the way we are measuring the Amps using the doughnut? Thanks sir!

    • @BarleyandHopsBrewing
      @BarleyandHopsBrewing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are close enough. 1500 watts divided by 120 volts equals 12.5 amps. At 115 volts the max is 13.04 amps. You are doing well.
