Here's Virginia Luque playing on an incredible instrument built by Hermann Hauser I in 1952, the final year of his life. It is built with a spruce top, and CSA rosewood for the back and sides. Virginia is performing the well-known piece "Danza Brasilera" by Jorge Morel. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.

She is by far THE BEST performer of this song I've heard to date. LOVE that finger tremelo on those certain notes she does. The others I've heard have a more rigid, structured or robotic technique. She puts the soul into the tone on many of those single held notes. Love it!

She did, but ran it by us first, don't worry - she didn't use her nails - just the flesh. No marks were left on it! Thanks for the concern!

Love the feeling in this performance - now my exemplar for this piece. The only thing is; I think I hear something different from classical tuning, and I can't figure out what it is. Am I right, and if so, what is it?
It’s not in the tuning. You are just listening to a master who has studied acoustics throughout her life and has tediously labored to draw unsurpassed sound from the guitar nearly turning it into an orchestra. Notes bend!! I encourage you to listen to all her music, because every rendition you hear becomes exemplar.

Yes she is a no nails player
Pause at 2:21. It's very clear that she's playing WITH nails, here. The sound is also a giveaway that her nails are making contact with the strings. Not everyone who plays with nails wants long, fragile demon claws.

Others who've been to her master class say she has focused on playing with no nails.
From the Delcamp classical guitar forum "Had the opportunity last Sunday to audit a Master Class by Virginia Luque. She expounded at length about not using finger nails. She said the nail is there as a support against which the flesh and the tip of the bone in her fingers propel the sound of the string out to the audience. She is very passionate about her technique. Someone asked her to demonstrate her tremolo without nails. It was great - sounded wonderful."
@@58ameriken Isaac Stern famously championed NOT using a shoulder rest/pad for playing violin. When someone asked about the chunk of foam rubber he kept under the shoulder of his jacket, he said, "It's just something I use." My point is, her definition of "playing without nails" is obviously very different from some other people's. I've never seen nor heard of her before, but, in THIS video, I SEE nails, and I HEAR nails. Pretty simple.
What a joke jotform is - this is played beautifully but am unable to obtain the sheet music..
A good player, but she does not keep the dance feel going. This is often the case with classical players

Makes MOREL proud for sure. But Morel is only one of many composers that Virigina totally understands and takes the music to another world !
The nerve that connects Virginia's brain to her right hand is in immaculate condition. Nothing is lost...what she wants us to hear, and what we actually hear, are the exact same thing. My favourite living Spanish guitarist.

There are several performances on youtube. Most of them technically OK but this piece
has to swing and at that point often is executed a bit disappointing. Virginia makes it swing

I noticed that a few times she made a frustrated look when a string buzzed. She probably thinks people noticed and cared but most of us hear and look her play astonished by the skill thinking what “buzz?”

She changed the notation quite a bit, personally I prefer the Carlos Barbosa-Lima version or Eduardo Falu.
She does have a striking tone production though.
She worked this version out directly with Jorge Morel, this is how he wanted her to play it!
