I'm gonna have to agree with the media on Vostok island. It's definitely lighting related. The fact the whole island isn't covered in blackout is testament to that. If you zoom in there are red/orange parts in the 'blackout' that are reminiscent of photos taken in poor lightening. So unless google is using a new method of censorship my best answer is that it's a poor image or poor image file that has created this mystery.
++ and the photo was taken in 2009, its just a bad photo
It is 100% a data processing artefact. I'm a geospatial scientist and these artefacts are extremely common, particularly on small islands.
@L You can literally see satellite imagery from 2022 of Vostok Island on Bing Maps. There is no conspiracy here.

That signal pinging and changing location with the Peruvian flight is unnerving, everything to do with going missing at sea is terrifying regardless. It swallows one up and leaves little to no trace.

My parents were very close friends with one of the pilots on the Newfoundland flight. His name was Carlos Ramírez, his elderly parents are now both gone as well. He died months before I was born, and my mum insists she "felt" the exact moment when he died. We have always wondered what happened to the flight, specially since it basically got zero coverage by Peruvian media and from what little I could gather, Peruvian authorities did almost nothing to solve the mystery, let alone recover the aircraft. Our country was going through one of its darkest and most painful and violent periods in history, so I guess it's not surprising the accident was swept under the rug. Thank you so so so much for covering this case.
Yea something honestly just sounds suspicious about a private flight from Malta to Peru in 1990. Considering Malta and Peru’s reputation for organized crime at the time.
@@democracyboys it's not a private flight, the curious detail that was left out by barely is that the plane is a commercial airliner that was leased to a Maltese airline by a Peruvian airline. The flight was a repositioning flight because the lease period had ended and so the plane and it's Peruvian flight personel was being flown back to Peru.
Please accept my condolences. I can only imagine the pain not knowing adds to all of your pain.

For the last mystery, The Pacific Missile Range Facility is located ~200 km west of Honolulu, on the island of Kaua'i. The blue object may have been a missile or target drone from the facility, with the followup white object being a chase aircraft. Not sure why a target drone or testing missile would appear blue though.

That's what I was thinking. If it wasn't something mundane like a kite or balloon , then the next most likely thing would be some small experiment aircraft connected to the military
There’s an idea of plasma radar shielding where an aircraft is “covered” in ionized gas that could theoretically absorb incoming radar waves, thus reducing its cross section. Since ionized air usually appears a dark blue/purple, it make the aircraft glow. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_stealth
@Caleb OKAY I have seen two UFOs my entire life. My mind doesn't instantly go to aliens rather than military. My step grandpa worked on the B-2 Stealth Bomber And I remember some of the stories he told me. Still pretty odd seeing something weird in the sky you can't explain.

The story of the missing inventor reminds me of the story of one of Enrico Fermi's colleagues, Ettore Majorana, one of the "Via Panisperna boys" who were well-regarded scientists in Italy. He was top of his field, and while Fermi and Emilio Segre would move to the US to continue nuclear research, Ettore would instead move to Germany, even working for some time with Heisenberg and Bohr. He would come back to Italy, but then in 1938 just randomly disappeared. He even left a note apologizing for his coming disappearance with his employer.
For years, no other information would come to light till seemingly randomly ten years ago, his case was reopened after it was determined he was spotted in Argentina at some point in the 50s. In 2015 his missing persons case was then subsequently closed, with a statement from Rome's Attorney's Office simply stating they know he was alive between 1955 and 1959 living in Venezuela and that it was apparently a personal decision to emigrate.
No explanation as to why was ever given and there's still a lot of unknowns on how and why a promising young physicist that Fermi once called a genius would suddenly decide to live a life in obscurity on a completely different continent than where he was born.

Yes, I wonder why a top nuclear physicist in contact with Fermi would suddenly leave his life moving back and forth between Italy and Germany in 1938 to go live in obscurity in South America... Definitely an unprecedented life choice......
Nuclear fission was discovered at the end of ‘38 and the German nuclear program began in ‘39. Not a huge stretch to imagine he was one of the many scientists fleeing Germany and the Nazis at that time.

Random island blackouts may be a method Google uses to protect their maps from being copied. Hard to prove someone stole your map unless you can prove the same intentional "errors."

An error in this video: «If I don’t come back, promise to tell my mother, Mrs. O » is one statement « cables were in the RH boathouse (now gone) » is a separate statement, not to be confused as « if I don’t come back, promise to tell Mrs. O cables were in the RH boathouse » (RH being Robert)
The statement about cables having been in Robert H’s boathouse was not in quotation marks. It might’ve been an observation made by Robert, himself, instead of Robert relaying that Svante Oden or anyone else had told him about it (before the deposition). It would make sense, since it was Robert’s own boathouse and it concerned him, not Svante’s mom. It’s still possible this statement was relayed or paraphrased.
This separates the emphasis.
The importance being the statement ‘If I don’t come back, promise to tell my mom, Mrs. O.’ (Mrs. O being his mother, Mrs. Oden - and it’s likely that this indicative wasn’t needed if Robert already knew Svante’s last name was Oden, but the person writing the transcript might’ve added ´Mrs. O to indicate who his mom was).
The emphasis shifts and the cables were not part of his directly quoted message to his mother in case he did not return. It doesn’t mean they’re unimportant, just that he didn’t send his mom a final message about them.
The cables were noted as missing from where they’d been, but that information might not be related at all to his anxiety about not returning.
This just brings awareness to the need for proper note taking. It’s a skill with actual classes and a protocol for these professionals (investigators and the transcriptionists - not the person making the video). These transcripts are not clear. A few more questions and a few more notes could have cleared this right up! Or told them what else they needed to find out.

16:38 makes sense if ATC didn't hear the distressed aircraft. If OB-1303 was too far from land or too low in altitude (looks like both in this case), then messages would have to be relayed by other aircraft that are closer to shore.

Something is going on with Vostok, I’ve looked at the island many times over the years on Google earth and that never happen. Even more weird if you try to zoom in with Apple Maps the entire screen blacks out once you get to the point you can see the island pop up from the surrounding sea. Go down to nearby Flint Island and you can zoom all the way down to tree level like normal. Strange indeed.
It just feels like poor satellite image composition. The center of the island may have been composed by photos at night.
@@tassoevan yeah, i mean the photo slightly sociable showed of the trees on the island matches exactly to the outline of the black part. and when you actually look at the black part of the island, its not fully black, in several spots you can see large round black spots with a lighter brown colour around them, ie, outlines of trees. And when you go onto google earth you find out that photo was taken in 2009, its not hard to imagine that satellite technology would produce a poor photo back then
I just looked it up on earthexplorer.usgs.gov and there it's completely visibible. So most certianly a glitch on google's side.
My money is on it more being surveying/imaging companies not caring to take a high quality photo of the island, not for any devious reason, but more because it's just not worth the effort. I'd guess almost no one really needs a photo of the island beyond the composite, which notes it's location. Unless you really want to zoom in and say "Yup! There's some trees!"
@@FangsAnalSatan of course that could be the case, but I’ve been island hoping on Google earth for 10 years (weird hobby of mine) and I’ve never seen anything this bad. I wouldn’t think anything of it but It’s really the fact that the Apple map that’s has me scratching my head. If you go to Vostok island using Apple Maps the entire screen goes black. Would love to hear someone who deals in this industry give an explanation. I agree it’s probably nothing nefarious though.

I just want you to know I put off watching this episode on my phone at work until I got home from work after 5am PST . I wanted to enjoy the full ambiance of the audio/video with my headphones on in front of my pc in the dark . This channel never disappoints in the stories it delivers and the presentation of those stories . I just want to say Thank you for the time and effort you put into your work and the research you must do to present the stories in such a compelling manner .

The hawaii one at the end is clearly a paraglider/paramotor with a light attached. You can see the person hanging underneath the lit blue wing. That's an easy one right there.
