Linda Thank You soooooo very much for making the chain I have been wanting to make but I am out of half round wire! Also I never thought of 16 gauge half round to make a Rolo chain!!! Wow!!! So eventually I will get some half round wire and get some lovely Rolo chains made!!!
Thank you so much Sam! let me know if you like the results when you make the link! email coming soon, I have just had too many irons in the fire lately LOL Cheers! xx
@@GumnutLaneJewellery im so excited to try it, Linda! I’ve not seen this technique before so I’ll definitely be having a go. Another wonderful video, lovely lady ☺️
Hey Suzanne, thanks for the tip, I already knew that using a saw was the best way to go, but I don't have a vice and saw and I also don't have the room or type of bench to attach the equipment needed! I was just trying to show an alternative way of getting a good result! I appreciate you sharing the info!! Have a great day!
I just love this link! I have been buying Rolo chain when I need it , I never thought I would be able to make it myself! Now I can, thanks to you Linda! You're my jewelry making hero and guru!🤩🤩😍😍🥰🥰😇
Thanks! This is a great technique for making a very handy chain link. Smaller links work great as extender chains on necklaces. I'm wondering if one could gently hammer a length before forming to increase the sturdiness. Would the half round wire hold up to a rubber hammer or rawhide mallet?
Hi Sarajane, I just tried hammering the link using my rubber mallet and it held up great! I used very gentle hammering!!! Hope this helps! have a wonderful day!
Hey there Linda, I am good I pray that you are thank you for this chain today I was trying to figure it out last week and now here you are showing me how to do it ❤
Hi Mary, there you go, the jewellery gods at work again! LOL It's amazing how sometimes you can be thinking of something and the next thing you know, there it is right in front of you! We must have been on the same wave length! I am well and happy you are too! take care Mary and have a happy day! x
I Love the rolo chain...pretty nice eh...and I have half wire too..have to look not sure what gauge it is...oh one thing I did get..real bare copper 3*1 link chain..so be good when want something that size eh...just oval links, but still nice as...but I do have a request if you don't mind...the green pendant from video before pretty please, with sugar on top...lol..hugssss🧡🧡🧡
Hey Kim, the chain you bought sounds lovely, i love oval links as well! I'm pretty sure I did a tutorial on oval links a while back! I'm not sure what green pendant you are referring to? Huggs x
@@GumnutLaneJewellery You do have a green crystal pendant..forgot what video look at...there was another green pendant...lol..I'm such an idiot..someone else's...but I do love the pendant I'm talking about think it was the chaotic connectors one 14.04 is where it pops up...I'm still crook as rookword..but am coping better than before...
Hey Paula, I love that I figured out how to make this link and I was very happy to share it with everyone! And my friend, you're very welcome, hope you like the result once you get the half round wire and new cutters! LOL xx (always something new to buy) hahaha
Please tell me more about your tumbler. How big, price range, etc. I don’t have one but will get one if you r3commend yours. Or if you are dreaming of @ different one, could you please tell me that, also? I love your videos and made this chain with square wire, in silver and loved it. The half round is so flimsy, I have a 20 gauge, that’s why. But I like it in square, too! Ordered the xuron pliers, too!
Hi Jill, I bought my tumbler on Ebay, it cost me around the $50.00 AUD mark, which would be less in US dollars! I have had it for around a year now and I am very happy with it. I don't have any other tumbler in mind to buy at the moment as the one I have does a great job! The brand is called Vevor model No. VD 6808 mini tumbler. Oww I have to try this link in a square wire! (I don't work with square wire very much) Thanks for the tip! I wouldn't make this link with anything less than 18g half round, as I agree with you, it would be way too flimsy! Please let me know what you think about the cutters when you get them!? take care and have a happy day! x
Linda you are right! This is a beautiful link and so wearable too! So, was it decided that the regular cutters are best over the Xuron or was it the wire gauge that made the difference? What gauge wire and cutters did you use in that lovely chain you shared at the end? It is stunning! And you are right, a tumbler makes all the difference. I own that same one and it just finishes pieces beautifully. Thank you for sharing with us. Already looking forward to your next lovely tutorial.
Hi Lauretta, The Xuron cutters are great and worth every penny! The only thing I found was it's difficult to cut small jump rings with them because the nose of the cutters is too wide, but for everything else they are great! I love my tumbler and don't know how I managed before I got it, the hours I spent cleaning and polishing I will never get back! LOL xxx
@@GumnutLaneJewellery I see. Yes, I too don't know how I managed without the tumbler. I already have the pliers in my "cart". I plan on making larger links, so should be fine. Thanks again! 👍😁💓
Avonda, the tumbler is a great time saver, it has become my best friend in the jewellery making process! It cleans, burnishes and polishes your pieces all in one go! I will make a video soon for this process ok! take care and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions!!!
@@hillichien I bought my tumbler on Ebay, I don't have a link as I bought it quite awhile ago (sorry) the price was around $50.00AUD which would be less in US dollars! I hope this helps!😃
I love this. I make my own chains also. I do have a question however since these links aren't soldered, how durable would this link be? My concern is that the links would pull apart fairly easily if to were to get caught on something. what's been your experience?
Hi Roxanne, I have not had a problem with the links not being soldered once they go through the tumbler! Of course they are not going to be as sturdy as if they were soldered, but they are still pretty strong! I hope this helps?
I've use flush cutters for a while now and they are VERY useful, I love them. But I read that you can't use them for memory wire because it is a thick wire and it with ruin the blades on the cutters, I have actually use them for 16 gwa (full round) and it has ruin them even the paint came off. I say use them for 20 gwa and up.
Hi there, thanks for the feedback! I don't use memory wire in my work, I only used it for a little while many years ago when I was experimenting with different mediums and trying to figure out which type of jewellery I wanted to make my art form. I 've tried every medium in the early days and finally settled on free-form wire wrapping and free-form seed bead weaving. I have memory wire cutters which I use for very thick wire anything over 16g. In my years of making jewellery I think I have pretty much collected every tool there is! LOL Have a lovely day and go make something beautiful!
