People keep forgetting this is for people who can't, or dont know how to build PC's. Remember that people who buy consoles dont have the time or effort needed to piece together a PC. The thought of them failing or something breaking is scary to some and would rather not take the chance. Remember this before you say "lol could build a PC better than this for cheaper."
TheIronGeneral5011 You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. He was listing desktop GPUs that you can put inside the graphics amplifier. One of those listed was the AMD 490.
+Capt Dna Donut oh ok yeah I think that could work. Before correcting him the Alienware employee said it could run an amd and nividia card. But I'm guessing there's a size limit to the graphics amp
sure it's affordable if you're not looking to really do upgrades apart from the form factor its much better just to build your own to have that upgradability un the future
here is a little advice... move your PC next to your TV and play it on the big screen "only limited to 60Hz though" .. more powerful than current gen consoles and more powerful than the neo & scorpio ..
+C0mmander Tr8-T0r well look for things you can upgrade but if it's that bad, sorry start from scratch a new pc. With newer hardware it shouldn't be hard to play at 1080@60fps at medium settings. it costs just as much as consoles.
no one is telling him to buy anything really.. what i gave is an advice .. if you have a "potato" PC why would you throw $600 for the alienware which supports a gtx960 instead of going for a Much better Graphic card like a 1070 with extra cash to spare..
For people who don't have the skills or the confidence to build their own PC, the Alpha is a nice, pretty affordable option, but for PC gaming on a budget, the fact that they're lowing the price of the first version that much is almost a bigger story - 450 for a dedicated gaming machine, when PCs which only have integrated graphics cards can cost 500 Euros :) . (Sure you can buy PCs for around 350 Euros, but they barely have any gaming capability, i only have 500 to spend on a PC and i've been considering buying a particular Dell model which has Intel's HD530 Integrated card as it's "only" 470 Euros, while the starting Alpha was 620, though you could double it's memory and harddrive space for 70 extra, but that still ment the Alpha i was most interested in was 690, but if that version will be now 500 or less, it's kind of a bargain :) .) Edit - Of course we never get the same value here in Europe as they do in the U.S. (specifically i'm in Ireland). I just went to Dell's website and they've only lowed the system that was 620 to 570 and the model that was 690, is gone. While the price quoted for the Radeon M470X is $600, it's 700 Euros here, while the model with the Nvidia GTX 960 is 800 Euros, which is the starting price of Dell's proper mini PC, the X51...which lets you replace its' graphics card. Sure both new models come with an i5 processor and 8 gigs of memory as standard, but the entry price is as i said, now higher :_ .
Everything you want in a close to Wii sized box. It doesn't just play PC games it's also a beast at emulating as well. (if you own the games of course)
I've just finished my PC build, i5 4460, 8GB HyperX Fury 1866MHz, EVGA GTX 950 2GB SC, 120GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, MSI Z97 PC Mate motherboard, EVGA 500W power supply and Corsair Carbide Spec-01 case... All for less than £500. Build your own PC!
So the AMD one, which has the graphics amplifier port, and is advertised as being compatible with the amplifier, doesn't support the amplifier? Will it be supported in the future?
Yeah WTF!? That is so misleading, he was even saying "Spend 600 dollars and save money to buy the amplifier later" and it turns out you can't use it if you spend 600 dollars...
yeah, i dont really see the point to even getting the amplifier for at least a couple years if the thing already comes with a full blown desktop GTX 960
Alienware isn't the overpriced peddler it used to be. I'm using an Alienware 15 r2 currently, and it's very competitively priced with a better build quality than most of the lower tier gaming laptops out there. If people want to build their own rigs, that's great. If not, Alienware is a genuinely respectable alternative. People moaning about the company being overpriced are showing their age by doing so...
Yeah this takes the fun out of building your own pc though. Part of the reason I'm building one is so that when I'm done It'll be built to my liking and I know I succeeded. All I need is a Core i5 and mine will be built.
For people like me, I have a very basic knowledge of PC hardware and I'm scared to death of building a PC. This offers a way in and it's really appealing even if it's a tad overpriced.
The ADHD Gamer What are you scared of? The building my first pc right now. What you do is first ask yourself what type of games do you want to play? Next do you want to got AMD or Nvidia which is basically like Apply vs Andriod? Third you find out the ram type for me DDR3 so I have 2 HyperX 4GB sticks with a total of 8GB which the latest games such as FO4 & Doom 4 requires 8GB of ram, Fourth pick out a hard drive say 1TB drives go for only $50 on Amazon, make sure your motherboard can fit inside your case, how man watts you'll need for your powersupply to you card and motherbaord, DO NOT place ANY of your specs on the carpet while build & ALWAYS build on a flat surface and you'll be good.
+ANewEvilRising this, so this. ive spent the last 40 minutes googling and giguring out what DDR is but PC people say things like that and expext me to know what that is. samething with "what do you want Nvidia or AMD" .....IDK!!! the only reason im actually taking the time to look this stuff up his because work is chill right now
Marcus Winston Trust me y'all it is that simple. You don't have to build a powerful pc it's just the better you build it the more reliable it is and the longer your specs will last. I didn't think of building a pc until Feb and didn't have the money until I graduated. Trust me y'all look at video's by Linus and he'll explain everything. I knew NOTHING about pc building before I started researching specs and all of what you need to build a pc. He has video's explaining what a cpu is, what a graphics card is, what goes with what and what not to do. I'm using a Z97 Msi branded 4K motherboard. Something else you can do is research a pc build and watch someone build a pc and buy those exact parts and do Exactly as they do but the thing about pc building is you want to do things to your style. I like blue, black, & white so since that's my style that's the theme I'm going with. There's more people that explains pc building so just do your research before going around just buying random parts.
*Fun facts:* AMD RX 470X is a 179€ card, meaning you can easily make a 499€ PC that still is as good as the Alpha R2, the X version is also not a mobile GPU, that is a lie. And the 470X is as powerful as a GTX 970. 4K gaming is very demanding and you will struggle like absolute hell in that resolution. Some games won't even run, while others will stutter like hell. RX 490 won't come out until late 2016/early 2017 in the form of VEGA. Here's a quick budget build I did just to prove a point: pcpartpicker.com/list/fRMK8K Just replace the 380 with a 370X, you get better performance with the 370X. The 8350 is definitely aging, but not as fast as Intel's CPUs. It won't cause as much stuttering as an i5-3570k, but if you want a better one, save up some more cash and go for i7-3370 or higher. Games are starting to demand it. AMD ZEN isn't far out either, it's their version of Skylake.
Guys correct me if im wrong but I think the$950 price is not that bad and if u try building a pc with gtx 960 and 6 gen cpu the price is around the same plus bare in mind that you get the advantage of the light and small machine :0 can someone link me a price of a build pc thats cheaper and better than these specs on the alpha???
Okay so I'm going into my 9th grade year in school (freshman) and in thinking about getting into PC gaming just to play CSGO, Minecraft with mods, and GMOD with good graphics so I can actually play the game. I don't know a lot of stuff of PCs but here's my question, is this a thing people should recommend to me for school work and just to play those games fine? I'm looking at the 500$ version at the dell website, would that be a good starting one for what I'm doing. Thank you
Sooo no existing support or upgrade options for existing alienware users? Glad i'll be using the money to build me a new PC instead. The alpha has lived out its purpose for my uses for now..
Scorpio has a 6.0 terraflop GPU, the RX 480 is 5.5 terraflops, the GTX 980 is 5.0 terraflops, and the 960 is around 3.0 terraflops, so it'll be better then this crap
Not very beastly lol. And it's not really a console per say. Consoles can actually put disks in. And the original one was better value than these are. They are going to try to get as much money out of this as they can so they are going to over inflate it as time goes on.

Do yourself a favor: pcpartpicker.com/list/fRMK8K It ain't hard to build a PC, just look up a 10 minute tutorial and you're done. Replace the R9 380 with an RX 480 when it comes out, and maybe switch out the CPU and motherboard to an i7.
+Lewis Gardner If it were a laptop card it would have M before the numbering scheme. People assume AMD is trash but that "Trash" is the best value for the money on the market. If the RX 480 is as good as a GTX 980 then the RX 470X is at least as good as the 970.
Some people just don't understand the reason why most console gamers choose console. Maybe its because we don't have 1000 Fucking dollars laying around. So all PC gamers before you go around bragging that your PC is way better than an Xbox... we already know.
If there so compelling why do you continue to change the hardware in them to keep people happy? They are never going to be future proof machines, the first lot you released lacked hardware performance and cost more to upgrade than it should of I know I have one and pcs are much better value regardless of the size factor.

pcpartpicker.com/list/fRMK8K I made an equally good PC for 100 bucks cheaper. You're welcome. Just replace the 380 with 470X, or for the same price, go for 480.
Tici Toty Tony Thanks :) Another thing I just found, the 8GB model of the 480 will cost as cheapest 229€, definitely go for that if you have enough. For OS, you can either clone your current harddrive and migrate Windows to your new PC, or just get Steam OS. Steam OS is based on Linux, so much more advanced than Windows.
It's overpriced, but if someone wants that small form factor, it's not a terrible option. There's very few small form factor PCs that size and with a Desktop GPU.
+K-Dagio be mindful that the price they showed as starting price is unlikely including a 960 as the base. we dont have benchmarks yet of the rx470, but that should be a good value.
again in sticking with the new Xbox and ps4 I can buy two consoles. for the price of one stupid gfx card I'm not a millionaire(yet lol) so why spend $800 just to play games
People keep forgetting this is for people who can't, or dont know how to build PC's. Remember that people who buy consoles dont have the time or effort needed to piece together a PC. also for younger people like myself who don't have their own income and their parents don't think a PC is worth the money
+Ethan Prince what the hell, any student needs a pc at home, my parents would buy me a pc over a console or something similar for gaming.
+Tomas B. i have a laptop for work but it cant play games
+Tomas B. Not evryone has parents like you. Some of us are on our own and have bills to pay
Ethan Prince yeah i guess laptop + console is alright
I have the original alpha i7 and I'm happy with it. This R2 looks amazing.
This seems perfect for someone like me who doesn't want to build a pc.

Switched from PS4 to the alpha after being a console gamer for over a decade. No regrets here yet.

What's the best emulator?
+Eric21ND Psx2 and Dolphin are my favorites.
Steam Machines DO play Linux PC games becouse Steam Machines are console style PCs.

PC trying to convert console players little by little lol
+James King we're still poor and confused so yeah maybe some day
+James King I bought the first alpha now I'm building my own but I'm also a console player so I'm a hybrid
so that means pc community raped you then into the community
+TheIronGeneral5011 is the first Alienware Alpha good?
+Hans Florendo what Ayane said as the first real gaming PC I ever bought it wasn't half bad but I wish it had a better graphics card
I have two i7 Alienware Alphas (One I'm selling for $500), and they are alright machines.
-is it worth it?
I'll be getting this for Christmas, any major cons?
Did the steam machines hit the sales marks that they were expected to?
And the 960 is already being overshadowed by the 1080
Damn the guy look so polite that i wanna buy his product!
why buy a desktop R2 and get an amplifier? That's 2 box on your desk or tv. Just get 1 pc case and upgrade as you need
Rx 490 confirmed!

with i7 and gtx 1070 that weight less than 1.7 kilos and smaller than alpha.

+Danny Zaidan razer blade
I was the one who Tell Dell use alienware amplifier on Alienware Alpha
If I get the i3 version can I use the graphics amplifier????
This is probably what XBOX SCORPIO is going to have spec wise. If I'm not mistaken Alienware is a Dell product and Dell/Microsoft.
yep,but maybe the whit gtx970.
no, the scorpio is still using the low powered AMD SOC.
How are Dell and Microsoft related? Serious question.
it makes sense I mean every dam PC gaming or not excluding apple runs with some sort of Microsoft program
Scorpio has a 6.0 terraflop GPU, the RX 480 is 5.5 terraflops, the GTX 980 is 5.0 terraflops, and the 960 is around 3.0 terraflops, so it'll be better then this crap
Affordable Price Later Says $599 😕
so this can't run vr out of the box?
dread to think the UK price.
+Joe Mills But its good for mobility i like my alpha for that reason
***** O really? I have to look into it, because this was over priced
The australian price is $999.99
$999.99 - $1,299.99 - $1,499.99 AUD
$999.99 - $1,299.99 - $1,499.99 AUD
It's basically a steal if you think about it. 600 bucks for a beastly console and PC in one.
Not very beastly lol. And it's not really a console per say. Consoles can actually put disks in. And the original one was better value than these are. They are going to try to get as much money out of this as they can so they are going to over inflate it as time goes on.
Game in 4k and VR with a 960? at lowest settings probably....
Now thats a mini pc! :D
I have the original i3 base model, can I use the graphics amplifier?
no
Arent there those steam box things cheaper than this?
and aren't as good, yes
4:06 tons of them sold lmao
is it out now
If I buy this can I use a PS4 controller and use on my 55 inch TV through HDMI ? Basically like console please tell?
Don't buy alienware. Save your money and build a high end pc.
Xbox controller only works on it and yes you can play it on an HDTV through HDMI
The starting price for the 960 Nvidia variant is $799. Lol, no thanks.
I'm lost.. put this vs Xbox one. vs ps4. who's game looks better and is it close.
PS4 by miles
+WRFM PaRaDoX no you idiot i have the old one for my nephew and that beats both by miles please shut up you dont know what your talking about.this stomps on it and has 4k
The Hyper Beast Took the bait there. You must have been hungry!
Guys, he said r9 470x
First alpha was good value. Alienware is gonna over inflate this fast.
Just when I buy my Alienware alpha i7
is the alpha r2 with i5 6400t 8gb ram and gtx 960 at 599$ or 799$
Andy_IT idk.
Andy_IT I bought my alpha with 8GB ram 1TB hardrive for $1298 Australian dollars
+Andy_IT 800$ for the gtx 960 one
can you play dayz with this?
Do yourself a favor: pcpartpicker.com/list/fRMK8K

you can actually play dayz on the r1 model as well. :)
+Alpha Senpai The R1 model is the original Alien ware Alpha is that right?
+rudy rudy yes
I have an R2 dont buy the first version as it is shit and will dissapoint you .
that's awesome
What if it was 400
don't buy compact PC. i got alienware x51 and it's hot as fuck like an oven
599$ I think not.
what the hell is a R9 470x?????
Laptop card

There is absolute nothing "extremely powerful" about those graphics cards. When the RX 480 comes out this thing will be obsolete in two months.
WTF are you talking about? The 960 GTX is powerful for it's price?
480 is as powerful as a GTX 980 and almost as powerful as a FURY NANO. ANd that's for 200 bucks.

*Edit:* The URL changed when I published the comment, no idea about that.
Tici Toty Tony I would aim for an i7 if I were you, it's 200€ more (you can still get a MOBO for around 70€) but it's definitely worth it.
Tici Toty Tony Thanks :)
Another thing I just found, the 8GB model of the 480 will cost as cheapest 229€, definitely go for that if you have enough. For OS, you can either clone your current harddrive and migrate Windows to your new PC, or just get Steam OS. Steam OS is based on Linux, so much more advanced than Windows.
Tici Toty Tony Dualboot, yeah. I have no experience with it, but I think it works pretty well.
Buy only PS4 ! Best exclusives !
gtx 960? no thanks
Ayy-lmaoware!
don't buy this trash and build yourself a PC.
It's overpriced, but if someone wants that small form factor, it's not a terrible option. There's very few small form factor PCs that size and with a Desktop GPU.
Some people are to lazy to build their own PC
overpriced? the card in there is worth more than it
+K-Dagio be mindful that the price they showed as starting price is unlikely including a 960 as the base. we dont have benchmarks yet of the rx470, but that should be a good value.
Some people don't know how.*
Just because its childs play to some doesnt mean its childs play to all.
again in sticking with the new Xbox and ps4 I can buy two consoles. for the price of one stupid gfx card I'm not a millionaire(yet lol) so why spend $800 just to play games
+RedstoneTNT - bruh some PC's cost as much as a fucking car like $4000 tf you mean
+RedstoneTNT - I'm not gonna buy both of them lol I have both but simeone got me the other console I like the ps4 better I'm not that into PCs
Well nah if someone gets me the second I'll be glad but im sticking with ps4
a GTX 960 lol
lol
Who even buys these
Nobody with sense. Usually tech enthusiasts with money to burn or collector types.
