I started taking a birth month. Everybody has a birthday, why stick with just one day a year for celebrating your life. From here on in I will be celebrating my life for a full month each year.

I’m double your age if the person who posted about you turning 30 was correct. I so wish we had started homesteading earlier. I had my first day of doubt about us being able to get it done yesterday. So much work and I’m just not as strong or long lasting as I once was. Hopefully this gloom will pass and we won’t give up! Happy birthday! May you be blessed this year!
I pray, just as I pray for myself, as I have 5 acres in northern Arizona, and plan to start my homestead soon. Husband just has health issues that need attention first.
Good luck to you guys...I'm also a very late starter and although I'm doing much more than I planned, I'm enjoying it 100%...may the Lord bless you...

I've been watching you guys for almost 3 years now. I moved to tonopah 1 year ago and got 10+ watermelons rn, 60+ sunflowers, 100+ carrots, tomato babies, a ton of acorn squash, alot of bushy cucumbers and Armenian cucumbers. If I were you guys I would have started to add woodchips EVERYWHERE as much as I could 4 inches if possible. Without woodchips I wouldn't have been able to have any of what is blooming right now. The woodchips also came with 30+ volunteer mesquite 10+ palms and a Palo Verde. I had to haul the woodchips because chip drop won't come to tonopah but it's probable the most crucial part of a successful garden. I have 2 acres and have covered only an eighth of an acre but the results have been DRASTIC. I'm 34 and will have a JUNGLE by the time I'm 40

Hi Jess, that bug looked something like a lady bug but I think it’s a different bug, a look alike. I always look forward to OSRL updates, when I open TH-cam and I see your updates there it’s the first go to. A morning cups with Jess and Jim and I enjoy that very much. I got architecture books for my paintings! What a fantastic, superb video. I love bee and butterfly plantings as well as flowering plants. One of my front gardens in New York City is now a listed garden on the city's list of important gardens. Wow!. I started that garden in 1989!
Our desert rose has 4 huge flowers on our Florida balcony. We have California cactus that have thrived. And our west Mexican Air plants have blossomed and grown like crazy. Just a super video! Thank you so much! Lluvia, stay away from those toads!!!

Oh, It’s a Flower garden, not a garden. Was excited to see what type of foods “self-reliant” homesteamers grew in the desert. Well, I guess relying on yourselves to get to the store once a week would qualify as self-reliant..

A friend of mine's Rottweiler used to LOVE mouthing those SDTs..
It would find them during the monsoon, made the dog act really crazy!
I watched a FB video of the Bondai vet. The little dog was actually getting high from the venom of the toads and was getting addicted!

Jim, I wish you stacked those stones together solidly and the cob was acting as grout, not structural. It seems to me that dried mud can't restrain big rocks. Maybe you are, and the rock stacking just seems unsteady to the couch-potato eye. Anyway, congratulations to all the life you have brought to the desert, and on all the great building.
