    I'm a service manager for 4 multi-family apartment communities and I have installed many Copeland Scroll compressors. When properly installed these compressors give excellent trouble free operation for many years. They are an exquisite piece of machinery expertly designed and have saved my company thousands of dollars!

    Very clear and informative video. The only thing they failed to mention is that the loading and unloading sequence is so loud on a rooftop unit that it can be heard down through the building and everyone is screaming about the noise. I usually have to disconnect the unloader.
    I've had several customers say that they don't care if it's hot or cold in there as long as we can stop that horrible noise. This has happened on several buildings with rooftops with these style compressors.

    The compression ratio of a scroll compressor is based on the volume of gas it intakes in the suction pocket divided by the volume of gas that is discharged. Most scroll compressors are fixed compression ratio machines. Copeland Scroll compressors exist in many displacements and for many applications. Therefore, different compression ratios are designed into the various models that are manufactured in order to make the products as efficient as possible for the applications that they go into.

    Regarding the digital scroll application, I've seen another video more specific to its operation, a very good explanation of the off loading/capacity control function. Its a bit like the slide control on the screw compressors but offering fully off loading on a selectable time base.
    I might be fitting a second hand system that has several mid temp evaporators individually controlled, and I'm considering using EPR valves so that when the individual evaporators are satisfied, they don't pump down into a vacuum. The condensing unit has a digital scroll on it, so if the all the evaporators are all satisfied, the low side pressure switch will pump the low side pipework down after the EPR valves, and shut the compressor off. But if there is one or more evaporators that aren't at their set point, the compressor will off load to maybe 10%. I am trying to find out what controls the modulation of the sol valve, is it varying suction pressure from a low side transducer, or pipe wall temperature on the low side that signals a controller?
    Also regarding oil return, it states on the Emerson pdf for this compressor that it is undesirable to use an oil collector for some reason? But I am concerned that when the velocity reduces right down to when the compressors off loaded to 10%, it won't be sufficient to return the oil that has already carried over. So I am planning on using a double suction riser and adding a shot of oil to compensate for trapped oil carried over from when the compressor is at full load.

    • @ref-technogenetiki6817
      @ref-technogenetiki6817 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for multi sircuit applications it is better to use more than one compressors to carry the load for example one Digital scroll and three fixed scroll compressors or one full inverter compressor and three constant speed compressors with Carel Prack 100/300 or Emerson CPC.

    whats the problem if I hear the noise of the solenoid valve but I don't see the variation of HP and BP ? mine compressor seems to be always at 100%, but i hear the correct cycling and the noise of the solenoid valve-....

    • @Copeland_Company
      @Copeland_Company  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Giorgio! Thanks for the question. Since you have a digital scroll compressor, the problem might be that you might have a bad unloader solenoid valve. The solenoid is cycling on/off but the valve is stuck close that's why the compressor doesn't unload. We suggest that you try and replace the valve and see what happens.
      Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, you may contact our Copeland Technical Support at 973-498-3926 (Option 1 for Contractors | Option 2 for OEM). Have a great day!

    Is there any way (mechanically) the unloading assembly (for a lack of a better term) can be stuck open? Or would that have something to do with the digital scroll controller and it’s control of the unloader solenoid?

    BTW, many scroll compressors, likely Copeland too, can run in reverse, for applications in say, heat pumps, electric automobile passenger heat / cool needs, etc.

      Not what they meant by that. It won't rotate backwards

      If it runs in Reverse for more than about a minute it'll be trash and need to be replaced.

    • @Brisket9392
      @Brisket9392 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scroll compressors only function in one direction. Heat pumps just have a reversing valve which basically makes the condenser the evaporator and evaporator the condenser. 3 phase scrolls (commercial/industrial applications) must be checked for correct phase or the scroll won't pump and will eventually quit.

    • @JROrg2009
      @JROrg2009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brisket9392 Yes, that's what I meant by "run in reverse", via the changeover or reversing valve.

    hello, thanks for your Video, i will ask, can the compressor reach the pressure 14 bar from 1 bar? and what about the temperature at the discharge?

    • @Copeland_Company
      @Copeland_Company  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scroll compressors will run at higher compression ratios, often exceeding 14 to 1 in low temp refrigeration applications. One must refer to a specific compressor's operating envelope to determine what refrigerants and applications the compressor was designed to work with.
      Generally speaking, Copeland recommends that discharge line temperatures exceed 225 degrees six inches away from the discharge port.
