Awesome John! I could have sworn that was a 1/2" end mill until you mentioned it. Wondering if I could use small machine like this in my world.

Hey John, in watching I did something your video on the PCNC 440, I want to tell you something I did next to my PCNC 1100.
I niticed when you blow chips off your parts it sounds like you're using 100 PSI air pressure to do it. I added a regulator at the machine and turned that down to 30 PSI. Now I don't blow chips all over the shop any more.
I know that this 440 is a loaner from Tormach until you get the one you ordered. The base looks like it needs a little more stability for the permant mill. Awesome video.

I love those little diamond engravers. I wish I didn't have to use it in hardened material. It's so much more satisfying in soft steel
+NYC CNC those are the ones I use - the solution ended up being to engrave multiple offsets so everything is several lines thicker. It's not quite as nice looking though and can be (relatively) easily sanded off
+NYC CNC I have! I'm looking forward to seeing that in operation. I'd definitely make one if the results look good in hardened steel. The alternative that I'm looking at right now is just having a local laser place engrave them. The more I can do in-house, the better though
Great little machine! I was surprised at the feeds and speeds that you used on the steel using the 1/4 inch end mill. I use a 1/4 inch TiN coated carbide end mill at 4500rpm at 17ipm to cut 7075 T6 on a PCNC 1100 and more experience people have told me that I'm pushing the tool to it's limit. I see now that it's not true! Time to experiment !

7:06 it looks like the OD is a series of steps? Is that right? Is that because of the programming or is the sensitivity of the machine not fine enough to produce a true arc?
It is pain to see how wobbly it is on that stand. Could you install it little bit more steady?
Suggest adding some illumination to the work area.
The 440 certainly has a market - it's size and spec makes it an attractive, store bought alternative to performing a CNC conversion on an existing desktop size mill... It could be a game changer.
But is it just too expensive for what it is. The 770 is comparable in price and a big step up from the 440. If the 440 started at below $5K, they would walk out the door...
Also Tormach should ship directly from China and charge appropriately. A base model 440 Downunder would cost approx $9.5K Aus plus shipping from the US [so round it up to $11K Aus]. Bring 'em in direct and watch them sell... What do you say Tormach?

im seriously impress with the Tormach and thinking of getting one but a lot of money to waste if it doesnt do what i want.
But I want to know if the Tormach 440 can cut 440 Stainless Steel?
We know the PCNC 1100 can cut 11xx steel.
I would love to see that too

+NYC CNC John, look up 440C, its a high hardness stainless used a lot for Knives, NOT fun to cut.
James T. Kilroy Jr. 440C is not that hard at all in it’s soft state. It machines more like a tool steel than what most people know of stainless. With the correct cutting parameters, tooling, and strategy, 400-series stainless should present no challenge.

Great videos and a great machine! I note that you cut up-hill. A mention about the dangers of doing that on a machine with with any sort of backlash might be helpful?

Tony Vincent Climb milling is more efficient for tooling and how CNC machines should be programmed in nearly all situations, although conventional cutting can be advantageous when using CBN or ceramic tooling.

Low level of mechanical noise. But I guess it doesn't matter that much when you have to add a compressor to the mix.

Hmmm, looks like there's a pretty big shoulder on the flat. FusionCAM fail?
+NYC CNC at the end of the video when you're holding up the piece to camera, the flat surface on the outside of the ring appears to have a 5 mil step in it, no?
Looks like you programmed a finishing pass on just the outside perimeter maybe.
Can you show how you programmed the engraving? Did you do it in Fusion 360? I couldn't figure out how to lay the text on a curve in F360.

I will file a complaint against this Tormach company through all the channels I use.
This is because I have not sent the product for more than 3 months without any reason for my order and there is no response to the refund request.
I hope that companies like this don't do that.
