From The Six Million Dollar Man Season 1 Episode 1 'Population Zero' - After a town's population dies, a former government scientist demands $10 million by threatening to destroy another community.
The Six Million Dollar Man (1974 - 1978): Ace pilot Steve Austin is fatally injured in an airplane crash. However, the government spends six million dollars on bionic implants in order to rebuild Austin, which gives him superhuman abilities.

the lack of sweat on the right arm because it's bionic is the kind of detail I appreciate.
Once again the youtube algorithm bestows a pearl of wisdom that I didn't perceive back in the 70's. Thanks for pointing out a level of detail the producers really didn't need to apply back in the day, but I'm now glad they did!

@@davidva8694 They cut out the scene where Steve put C4 and detonators on the concrete and flipped the switch as it hit the truck. They thought it wasn't very realistic and just wasn't as cool.😄
One of the coolest scenes in the show. It showed how he could think quickly to solve problems. And don’t forget that awesome music!
Oliver Nelson was an awesome musician and composer
When I was a little kid, that was my favorite episode of the six million dollar man.
Definitely. The Day of the Robot was pretty good too though.
I like the detail of his right arm (bionic) not sweating through his shirt. Smart.
This show was right up there with Starsky & Hutch and The Incredible Hulk. One of my favorites. Thanks SFS!

He'd be the 6 Billion Dollar Man or even the 60 Billion Dollar Man today. And he'd be worth it.
And he'd have a reinforced spine this time to handle the load his legs and arm would put on it.
$6 million in 1974 would be worth $38 million today, so I'm thinking $60 Million Dollar Man

You also have to add in the greed of politicians, military big wigs,favorite pork projects, and the defense contractors having to get "their slice of the pie" and the bill would approach 2 trillion dollars.

I replicated that scene tossing a garden shovel into the side of a propped up kiddie pool when I was a kid. My mom was _not_ amused!

I had one back in the 70's. Also I managed to get hold of the Maskatron action figure, which included a cool briefcase and Oscar Goldman mask. Toys back then were awesome!

I had one, too. I also had the rocket ship/operating table. I actually took him to Show and Tell in the 3rd grade.
I was almost 12 when this first aired and remember watching and enjoying it! This video takes me back to nicer times.

I remember reading the book as a kid. His bionics were a bit different in the book. As I recall, he could not see through the eye, but it was a camera. His hand could convert into a gun, his feet could convert into fins for swimming, several ribs were replaced and acted as radio antenna for communications.
And his left arm was bionic in the book, not the right if I recall correctly.

I read the book many times.the show inspired me so much I grew up building my own artificial limbs and even made a working bionic eye,with night vision,from a mini security camera placed inside a fishing bobber,that plugged into my VCR.great show. 👍🏻
@@dwi189I think they switched the arm from left to right because Lee Majors was right handed and it felt more comfortable to him to use his right arm.
@@thomasbentley4757 I have also read that Martin Caidin, Author of "Cyborg" wanted Monte Markham to play the role of Steve Austin but Lee Majors was selected.
Monte of course did make two appearances in the SMDM as Barney Miller/Hiller.
Lee Majors is an awesome actor for this show! I wish they did a crossover between him and The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno together!
Unfortunately they did a crossover, but only in comic-book form.

But there was a first season episode called "The Pioneers" in which an astronaut (BJ Hunnicut from MASH) was accidentally injected with a cryo-serum and went berserk like the Hulk and had similar strength, but died at the end sadly.

First episode I ever saw way back when. I was impressed by the story and the way Steve took out the van. I watched it every week after that.
This episode is called "Population Zero ". It was the first one i saw as a little kid. 😁🇺🇸
You can tell this was 1st season. The "dodododo" bionic sound was not in use yet. As i recal the sound was used with the 1st appearence of one of the androids (played by john saxon i think).
You can always tell the early episodes by the lack of the sound effects.
The truck has the technology equivalent to a cellphone nowadays! 😅
Not sure how the computerized truck immediately went ablaze and blew up? I can understand an electrical fire when the cement-based pole crashed into the computerized truck, but it looks like it completely blew up. Perhaps the fuel line contributed as an accelerant with the electrical fire.
@@waynemurphy8293 There was a fuel line leak that allowed vapors inside. When the concrete penetrated the metal sides it created a spark, and kaboom.
Love how the whole time he's disabled and stumbling, then running, then running with the post, somehow he maintains a perfect outfit look with his shirt tucked in and the belt.

I was only 9 years old when this first aired back in 1974! My family and I watched this show every week commercials and all. As a kid I didn't understand why after Steve threw the pole he didn't cover both of his ears as he waited for the impact but now I realize that he didn't use his right (Bionic) hand to cover his ear as he might have accidentally crushed his skull. Good attention to detail on the part of the writers.
I didn't know concrete on the end of a metal pole could be turned into a explosive warhead.
Basically, Steve Austin threw a 200 pound cement javelin which is going to make short work of anything that is at the receiving end!😊

I loved this episode early in the series showing how the cold was Steve's & Jaimie's kryptonite to their bionics.
The only thing missing is the bionic sound effect. The beating heart is great though.
Hey Hollywood, get off your ass and give us a theatrical movie.
It's been considered, I think. If you're a fan of Lee Majors though, you can see the theatrical adaptation of another one of his series right now. It's really good! I highly recommend!
Hollyweird wouldn't redo the 6 million dollar man they would remake the Bionic woman with an " alphabet it" and push every new age agenda known to man as a PSA instead of a movie.

I remember sitting around waiting for the newspaper truck to drop off the papers we had to deliver one summer day in the 70s. The stop sign we were waiting next to was loose and I pulled it out of the ground just like Austin did here and even lifted the whole thing like I was going to throw it.
Good show, well made and acted, with many human elements mixed with the fantasy and technology in its day. Truly missed! Peace

I wished a network would bring back a new version of the bionic man with today's effects. Can you imagine the human bot episodes and the Bigfoot episodes in today's time. With inflation, it would be the 6 trillion dollar man, 😂.

The bionic sound effects wouldn't be introduced until "Day of the Robot", three episodes later. Even then, they weren't used for Steve's bionics.
The heart beat sounds pretty good when he is running. Probably better than the bionic sound that later came.

As a kid, I grew up watching the Six Million Dollar Man and enjoyed every bit of it. But now, what would of happened if they made both his left and right arms and hands bionic instead of just his right hand and arm?

In colder temperatures, his bionics become useless. In warm weather, he regains his bionic strength with help from the Sun.

You know a neighbor and I were talking about this show a few days ago and even though this guy was supposed to be Steve Austin the 6 million dollar man a bionic arm 2 legs and an eye what got our attention is even though his arm and his hand could handle a lot The thing of it ISIS the body that it's attached to is also gotta be able to handle whatever that arm in hand deal with and the same thing with the legs I mean obviously they would be strong enough to push run 60 miles an hour but still the main part of the body has to be able to deal with that and it just kind of makes me wonder when people have Lynn's like that it's nice that the body itself managing the handle with those limbs handle I mean it's not the rejection of um it's if you lift up something or do something like that they can handle it but what about the body itself that's what it always wondered about that
