They all met at Villawood Migrant Centre - a place for temporary housing of "New Australians" The Young family from Scotland would settle in Burwood (NSW) and George Young was the older brother of AC/DC's Angus and Malcom Young. He and Easybeats band mate Harry Vanda (from the Netherlands) produced the first AC/DC material and wrote a slew of hits for other artists in the 70s leading them to be somewhat akin to Lennon-McCartney of Australia
@@playitagainsue Dick Diamonde (bass) from the Netherlands, Harry Vanda (guitar) also from the Netherlands, Snowy Fleet (drums) from Engalnd, George Young (lead guitar) from Scotland, and Stevie Wright (vocals) from England. So many of our artists from that era were from o'seas Olivia Newton-John, the Bee Gees, most of Little River Band, Billy Thorpe, Jimmy Barnes and Steve Prestwich from Cold Chsel, Colin Hay from Men at Work, John Paul Young, Ted Mulry, John Farnham, Johnny Young to name a few Johnny Young like Dick Diamonde and Harry Vanda was from the Netherlands and also like them changed his name (in his case from Johnny Benjamin de Jong). He wrote a great psychadelic track "The Real Thing" sung by Russell Morris (also worth checking out - 6:20 mins long).
2:01 This is Stevie Wright. He is the lead singer, and was only 16 when he started. For him later, check out Evie Parts I, II and III. Epic. There is one in front of the Opera House in Sydney. The blonde guy on guitar is Harry Vanda and the smaller dark haired boy on guitar is George Young, older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC fame. These two became formidable songwriters, but the earlier songs were by Stevie and George. They formed when they lived in immigration housing. Australia should be so lucky that they came here. Cheers to their folks. Another song of their is Sorry, She’s so fine, and I’ll make you happy. Jimmy Barnes and INXS covered their song Good Times for the movie The Lost Boys (on the album for the movie]. They are legendary here.
Hi Sue, another terrific song that was a one hit wonder in the UK charts. It was in the period when a number of Aussie bands broke in the UK, following on from the success of The Seekers. As you say, the guitar solo is so distinctive.
Harry Vanda and George Young were and still are Australia's No 1 most prolific and best song writers and producers in the 1970's and 80's. Working for the Albert label they had a huge number of artists end up with successful hits thanks to them. Even the classic "Love is in the air" from the movie Strictly ballroom" This live was in Germany and shows how dynamic they were live.
Yes and John Paul Young sang it at Stevie's funeral at St Andrews Cathedral General consensus was George and Harry didn't attend to avoid a media circus taking away from the reason.. Snowy did and was descended upon.
This was a great song when it came out & still great today. I always enjoy listening to it. Sue you will also have to check out Harry Vanda and George Young`s other band after they left the Easybeats. The band was called Flash And The Pan & "Hey St. Peter" & "Down Among The Dead Men" were 2 popular songs. Nice reaction, keep them coming. 👏😁
No, George Young is on guitar, playing that amazing rif. Stevie is the singer. George Young was a musical genius, and produced most of AC/DC records in their early days.
Stevie Young who eventually replaced Malcolm Young in AC/DC is the son of Stephen Young, who is the eldest brother of Angus, Malcom, George and Alex Young. Like his brothers, he emigrated with his family from Scotland to Sydney in 1963.So Stevie is Malcolm Young's nephew. George Young went to live in Portugal (nobody knows me there and if they do they don't give a F.) He visited Singapore late 2017 and passed away there in Oct. Intent on privacy, no cause of death was issued nor was a place of burial or cremation. Malcolm Young was already being cared for in a Sydney Hospital (dementia) and passed two weeks after George. On a brighter note Harry Vanda is still going strong. Lived not too far from where I am and recently 06/24? moved on . And to round off the musical theme ,Harry is a second cousin of Agnetha Faltskog of ABBA. Some serious talent in that little lot. Cheers for the channel especially the volume!
Harry Vanda gifted a guitar to Malcolm Young (likely the one in the close up shot near the start of this video). That guitar became Malcolm’s primary AC/DC guitar on most of their recordings. Harry Vanda says that his gift turned out to be a pretty good investment
Gosh, I remember this song, we were still living in England then and I was only 9 but I think maybe I saw it on Top of The Pops. Fantastic reaction Sue!
Lead singer Stevie Wright , he’s deceased now but had a long troubled history of substance abuse. Surprising he made it into his 60s 😢. He’s also famous here for his song Evie. One of the other band members George Young is a brother to the Young brothers of AC/DC
Thanks for tuning in, Superphilkat. It is such a shame. Drugs and alcohol have taken so many talented people. I love all the connections with family members and bands...lots of talent in one family 🤩
That was fun, enjoyed the song, especially the guitar and vocals. Love the facts about George Young involvement but what was more surprising was that Gary Moore covered it. Gary being my favorite guitar player of all time, I just had to track down the cover and I wasn't disappointed. It was a fun watch seeing Gary cover this song. In the 80's Gary's guitar playing was more on the rock/metal side, so it was a pretty cool version. Made my day, thx Sue.
There was another brother Alexander Young who was in a band called Grapefruit which was signed to the Beatles record label Also look up the song Silver Shoes and Strawberry Wine by The Marcus Hook Roll Band which as Angus,Malcolm,George and Alexander playing on it
Very catchy ! ....... I know this song well although this was their only UK Top 10 hit. It's stuck around in the consciousness for 50 odd years ! I think it's one that still gets a lot of play on the oldies radio stations
Legendary band here in Austalia, and this is their signature song .. So many catchy and innovative instrumental and vocal parts in it .. But they have many more good ones for you to explore down the track .. "I'll Make You Happy" is a great one, and it was later covered well by another iconic Aussie band The Divynals. Sadly, lead singer Stevie Wright would later become a heroin addict and struggle with it for much of the rest of his life .. But he did have a very successful solo album "Hard Road" in 1974 and a No.1 single from it, "Evie", which was over 11 minutes long, included 3 parts, and was written for him by his ex-Easybeats bandmates, Vanda and Young .. There are some fantastic live versions of him performing it which are worth checking out if you get some free time.
Great Song One of greatest Australian songs of all time People may know it better from David Bowie his album of all covers called Pin Ups Around 74 or 75 ( the album with Bowie and Twiggy on iconic cover ) Pin Ups Great Album and my favorite off that is Sorrow
Always liked this quirky song, the tempo shifts and the guitar riff. I still have the '45. Never saw a live (and definitely lively) version. The lead singer was born in the UK. To me he looked a bit like Davy Jones with a bit of Keith Moon. He became dreadfully addicted to drugs, underwent shock and other therapies and by the time he was older his good looks had turned into those of a haggard bag man. A terrible end. Drugs suck.

great pick sue.
Thanks Solar...great tune 🤗
Stevie Wright, was the lead singer. He passed away in 2015.
Wow! An oldie but a goodie. Happy to see you enjoying our Aussie talent, Sue. 👍❤️🇦🇺
Hey Judy, it was a ton of fun. I really enjoyed it 🤗💙

Dave, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if they did a lot more in the UK so this was their only hit there...cool song. I love that guitar sound 🤩❤️
@@playitagainsue Just one more suggestion for you. Have a listen to Carpet Of The Sun by Renaissance.
Brilliant song, brilliant band. Love the T-shirt, long time KISS fan here!! ❤
