- So something I've been wanting to do for more than a year is clear my check engine light on my 1995 Mercedes s500 w140. There's a simple tool I purchased for only $34 that will allow us to try and fix our issue. This is my first time using this tool so bear with me and please fill me in by commenting down below. I have a December 94 S500L here in the UK, not used for about 9 years. Such a beautiful car, but my word, what a pain in the backside these cars can be. I will be watching your videos for sure !

You probably know this already but I found out that the circle part on the cover twists off like a radiator cap. So you don't need to remove the large cover. Thanks for all of the videos.
I have the same code reader but with the banana plugs for the 16 pin connector instead of the small pins for the 38 pin connector like yours. Works perfect on my '91 500SL. You can build your own which is not hard but I enjoy having the nicely built one for $30, and it's just easily available versus taking your time to make your own. When I first read codes I had a ton (probably from years ago when the battery got low and was replaced by previous owner), but after clearing codes on every pin and rechecking after 2 weeks, I had none. So that was nice lol
Good to hear. I'm going to pull my plugs tomorrow and then pull the cats if that doesn't work. I already cleaned and tested the erg valve

Pete I suggest to buy a STAR kit (laptop and multiplexor). I got mine and I'm happy. Before I've been trying to use "Carsoft V12" but I couldn't make it work so now I'm happy with my STAR kit. Yeah, unfortunately we have to deal with 38-pin port...
It's definitely in the mix. My goal is to keep buying w140s and as channel grows do give aways.

Hey! Im have 1993 600sel.when you push 5 seconds on instrument Secret Cluster Pin then turn the pin to right, it will SE and SA mode means and has lot of fuel level and pressure gage, and the SE and SA mode.Also it has one more mode is 25 to 0 to -25. When you push the pin 5 seconds than turn to left is on that mode, I'm don't know it too! Any idea!

Shouldn't take much. Maybe 100miles. But I'm florida we don't have smog or emissions test so I can't be 💯 on that.

Very helpful! Ordered the code reader, and I got lots of good info … One question: Any ideas on a source for knock sensors and related wiring for an S420? Having a very hard time sourcing them for a 1995 W140 model.
Usually order from fcpeuro.com or autohausaz.com. But right now it’s hard to find parts in stock for euro cars. Hopefully that helps
Pete have you done a speed sensor replacement on your W140? I’m also looking for a diagrams of the W140

I have not had to do a full speed sensor yet but have repaired one. They shouldn't be too difficult to change out.

Question Pete. Have you ever had your s500 surge on the hwy like its losing power for for second and then good for a second at constant throttle cruising?

Did you remove your ASR/Egas module on purpose to avoid the ASR limp mode issue?
Not sure what your referring to? I didn’t remove any module.
Hey bro my mercedes w140 s500 1999 has a problem the radio wont light up and the ac buttons wont work neither the radio buttons i can only turn on the defrosters thats it cant change anything either need help please

Thanks. I think mine is egr and maybe o2 sensor. I have to go through it all but right now I can't drive it. When I rev engine it stalls and had no low end power
What kind of idle issues u getting? Did u check cam seals?
It ended up being a melted coil wire

Does anyone know why pin 14 (lambda on-off ratio) would have a constant light? or reason why any pin would have a constant light?
They all have constant light when the ignition key is off or position 1.
Does a obd1 to obd2 port work too?
Only with the correct scanner software but yes you can do that as well.
I got that exact same reader for mine. Even though mine is a 96 it's a non USA model so no obd2
Can I clear the trans with it? I wonder. But I think you need a star diagnostic tool

I've never driven one but I hear they are great. Reliable but a lot less torque and power.

The egr is located on top of motor up front right under the cover that attaches to the air box. I can find a diagram if you need

Yeah, isn't this fun? I've had my check engine light on for a little less than a year. Got the codes for the neutral safety switch. Cleared them and the light was off for about a day until it came back with the same code. I replaced the switch with a genuine Mercedes one, and lone behold... It made absolutely no difference whatsoever and the light is still on with the same code. I hope you have better luck than me.
Wow. Yeah. I know I can reset mine and it stays off for about a week or two and that's why I figured it was o2 sensor. They seem to do that. But now I think it's that and the egr valve. Wish me luck
