    I used to think Led Zeppelin was the real deal when it came down to live 70's rock performances, but I'm not so sure anymore. The energy and tight chops that I just was witnessed here are on a whole other level. Surreal.

      Zep were good but they didn't have the energy level of The Who. Robert Plant made funny hand shapes, Roger swung his mic like a boss.

      Yeah, The Who the actual real deal...

      For zeppelin they were the real deal but only for a short time . From 69 to June 72 zep was as good as it got for live performances but after mid 72 the get very spotty and inconsistent. Zeppelin post mid 72 is really a different band and a lesser band at that .
      1969 to mid 72 zep and 68 to 72 Who are dead heat for me . There was nobody better during that period.
      Many people talk about the Stones being the best from 69 to 72 and they were at their peak during that time but was great as they were The Who and Zeppelin were on another level.

      @adamwatson6916 The main difference between Zep and The Who is that the former often deployed marathon-like filler jam session material during live performances. The Who, on the other hand, seemed a bit more polished amidst their raw energy, or "tighter," if that makes any sense. Don't get me wrong because I'm a huge Jimmy Page fan. He is as creative and artistic as any songwriter can get. His live performances, however, often lacked direction and meaningful phrasing. My opinion is solely based on TH-cam videos and live albums because I've never attended a live concert of either band in their legacy iterations.

      I'm a Who fan since the late 60s prior to Zeppelin. The power of the Who's live performance is unequaled, but Zeppelin better captured the mass audience because of Page's technical mastery & more importantly their reliance on sexual themes, which Townshend seemed uncomfortable with.

    It's wonderful how these London boys can summon something humid, dark, and dirty, right out of the Mississippi Delta!

    this must be what daltrey refers to in his recent book as 'flying'.... four guys firing on all cylinders. a broad road map of the song, but anything can and will happen! i love the harmonies at the end - never heard before or since on this tune: they just felt their way into it there and then. fucking hell. accept no substitute. this is yer actual MAXIMUM r+b!!!

    While I’m not a drummer and believe Moon doesn’t rank at the top for technical skills, he seems to show them here, especially the left hand after 5:56 and following.

    • @drummer78
      @drummer78 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Keith Moon doesn’t rank up with say a Billy Cobham on a technical level but Moon sometimes did stuff that could be technically astounding. He was complete feel and emotion.

    • @PurpleWatchtower
      @PurpleWatchtower 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And there is absolutely none of these technical drummers that can do anything that Keith Moon can do... just saying...

    ALL UE RTESPECT TO JIMMI HENDRIX WHO WAS A GUITAR GOD. PETE TOWNSHEND NEVER GOT THE RECOGNITON HE DESERVED AS A LEAD GIUTARIST. HE COULD TEACH ALLOT OF PLAYERS A THING OR TWO

    Trying to find this version - yes, not the "remastered" one - Anyone who has it? This has a much broader and reverbier sound. The dynamics are just so much better too. Thanks!

      No he's using at least one effects pedal ...i think maybe an overdrive distortion box. But he does make adjustments to amp settings throughout the show.

    Feeling Who had jumped the Shark at this point
    Moonie still pulling triplets off like I breathe air - but unfortunately I'm feeling falling off the cliff vibes as that rip your face off band that no band has ever been able to replicate...
    Or maybe just a crap concert filler allowing these Geezers to rest before hitting that My Generation half hour perfection???
