I ordered this yesterday. I had it on pre-order, but it was 6months behind. I am excited for this to arrive. I don't care if it is a pip deck. I have the Nightmare Before Christmas and the Disney Villians decks. The Hedgehogs are stinking adorbs! All three decks give off a Marseille style to me. And that's okay.
Thanks for this. I've been eyeing this deck for so long. Disappointed about the pip deck only because of the potential. This deck could have been so great for both new and experienced readers. That being said pip decks do help with intuitive readings once you have learned the RWS. This can be a nice entry into Marseille type decks.
I'm glad you did this. I've been looking at this deck for awhile. i hate that it's a pip deck. i do love the Majors and the Suit cards but the pip cards i can't do at least not yet still learning the tarot. disappointed it's a pip one. so i know to hold off now until i learn all the cards.
I feel like the pip cards are a wasted opportunity, to have the playing card characters with the traditional corresponding pip suit interacting in a scene that describes the card, while still incorporating the flowers, tea cups, hedgehogs and spears. It could have both been a pip and tarot deck at the same time.
This is a Novelty Deck for me. As an experienced tarot reader myself, I personally love it because of the nostalgia. I love The High Priestess, The Moon and Temperance cards. I have pretty much decided that the decks that come from Minerva are just gonna be pip decks. I still want the Horror Tarot that I have on pre-order (Pennywise is The Sun card) I have alot of decks with sceneries its nice to have a change up to really use and challenge my intuition. As soon as I saw the March Hair court card my head was screaming "NOTHING, WHATEVER... THATS VERY IMPORTANT!" LOL I actually like the Queen of Hearts as the Empress because it's tough Mother Love and She is also "creative" with her so called rules in Croquet and in general. Perfect edition to my other Alice in Wonderland decks
i agree with you on the empress card completely :D and I thought that flowers were cups until we reached the guidebook mentions :D. yes they could have done better with minor arcana imagery. no details restrict one's imagination but Alice in wonderland is my favorite Disney movie. i would buy it anyway. thanks for the flip 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I do think the fact that it's a pip deck is a bit disappointing, but it's still gorgeous. I also do enjoy the changed names of cards and the suits. Though I have to say the most frustrating thing about the deck was the ordering process with all the delays 😅 Pre-ordered it in December and I just hope it will soon finally arrive. I ordered it as a gift for my sister who is the biggest Alice in Wonderland fan I know. I do feel like it's very much one of those decks, where even if it might not be the fave for reading , it's worth it for the art alone if you are a fan.
Oh the wait for this was crazy! Yes, I agree. It's beautiful and I'm happy to have it, however, after the Villians deck, I was really hopeful that this one would have better minor cards. 🙃 oh well.
@@WickedMoonlight1 hahaha, yes, please! I had to go and watch your Villans unboxing too and I really want that deck! When you said "Disney and tarot are my two favorite things.." literally ME. 🤣 🤣
I like this deck, the artwork is lovely and I can't wait to add it to my collection. 💖 I don't understand why people are complaining about the pips. I don't mind pip decks, it helps contrast with the majors and gives me a better reading, and I read from the heart. But to each his own. Thank you for the review and the video 😊
Thanks for the video. I was considering getting this deck because I've mostly just seen the major arcana cards, which are so lovely, but after watching this video, I'm disappointed that the minor arcana is kinda bleh. Wish they spoke more to the feel of the card. But thanks for posting, this was helpful in my decision.
Disappointed it's a pip. The main problem I have with it is it doesn't seem to be advertised on the box. That just really irks me. I was really enjoying it up until then. The idea was solid and could have been so much better with more effort for the minor cards. Also, the pip art feels generic.
I love the Deck in it self it is amazing and yeah i was little disappointed with the Cups but then i realized that they put different designs within the cups it self so it made sense to me . over all yes these deck is very draw to me i love it cant wait to read with it =) thank you for sharing your thoughts with us love & light to you Wicked Moonlight mote let it be
Maybe when I get more experience with tarot, I wouldnt mind a pip deck. Right now, i wouldnt be able to work with it well enough! But otherwise these cards are very pretty 😍
I don't mind that it's pip. I definitely want to pick this up at some point! 😍 I know a lot of people are upset that it's pip but with a Disney license there's a lot of limitations, so you can't expect anything other than pip. I'm pretty sure once they get away from Disney or licenses that have limitations, it'll be fully illustrated.
That actually makes a lot of sense. However, if disney let's one make a deck with the images from a movie, it stands to reason they could use whatever from the movie as well. But yeah, I completely understand that aspect of legalities, you make a great point. ❤️
@@WickedMoonlight1 You'd think that but publishers need to pay for the license, so I'm sure that if you want unlimited freedom it'll be 💰💰💰💰 expensive most probably. Insight Edition probably can't afford that kind of capacity. Or maybe Disney doesn't offer that kind of unlimited capacity and wants to limit what is being used for publications. Who knows what type of license they got. Either way, Disney just wants to make money at the end of the day.
I guess I'm confused at the dislike of pip decks, it feels (to me) they should make sense: 3 of Cups, three cups on the image, 10 of Wands, ten wands on the image. Is there something I'm missing??
I love the Nightmare Before Christmas and the Villains deck, but was quite disappointed with the Labyrinth and the Del Toro cards, because they didn‘t even feature half-illustrated minors. But seeing that Insight Editions gets more and more lazy really annoys me. I canceled my preorder and will probably not buy their decks anymore.
After being incredibly disappointed in the Tarot Del Toro and insanely disappointed in The Nightmare Before Christmas (both by Insight Editions) I went ahead and canceled my pre-order for The Horror Tarot. I love Abigail Larson's artwork (I adore Dark Wood Tarot) but the way they are cranking out these themed tarot decks feel very cash grab, almost all are pip decks (and hey some folks may prefer a pip deck in which case awesome) but for me the decks don't feel useable and don't always feel like they even considered the actual meaning of the card but just stuck images that are 'good enough'. I was so disappointed in Nightmare and how they literally reused the same image (for instance Sally resewing herself in different poses) for multiple swords cards, or just a pile of presents. I think what is sad about this is the clear talent of the illustrators and they have access to these movies/films that have MASSIVE casts of characters someone could wonderfully take time to curate into deeply meaningful card selections. These don't feel carefully curated to me. For the moment I am steering clear of the decks they produce just not for me. I am all for a kitsch/theme decks with depth (Zombie Tarot and Housewife's Tarot are great examples of older mass markets that have some amazing depth and layers and even added new levels to certain tarot cards for me) but these feel like I flip through and there are some cute images but nothing I feel called to read with. Thanks as always for your willingness to show the decks and give your thoughts.
I asked Abigail on Instagram and she says the Horror deck will be fully illustrated. I‘m so happy about that since it would have been a shame to not use her great artwork.
@@Arignon Yeah because it's not a licensed deck. With decks that have a license like Disney, it'll always be pip or mixed because they have limitations.
This is a hard pass for me. I can't get over it being a pip - it just feels lazy, to be completely honest. And also, the guidebook really didn't seem to offer that much info, which is bad considering the minor cards themselves don't really give you much to go off of just by looking at them. This was really disappointing.
@@WickedMoonlight1 I went down the rabbit hole of Alice in Wonderland decks and found Barbara Moore, Eugene Smith deck Tarot in Wonderland. Any chance you could make a video about that? I'd love to see your reactions. Also Alice: The Wonderland Oracle by Lucy Cavendish seems interesting!
I love Disney decks, I even have the villains, but it seems at some point the illustrators are lacking creativity, repeating the drawings in the numbering. The cards are so beautiful, but I feel that they sin in this part, they could improve when creating the part of the numbering from 2 to 10 for example. I thought that in Alice's, that I am a fan, they would have done it differently, but I think they will unfortunately follow this pattern. 🙄😓
Just shows like one coin, two coins, three coins etc. like no illustrations for minors. I like pip decks they helped me read better and trust intuition. My first pip deck was antique anatomy
So beautiful.Really disappointed it’s a pip deck. Still going to buy it though as its one of my favourite movies ever. I might just use it as a major arcana deck and possibly include the courts cards and see how that goes.

The art style is so beautiful, too bad they opted for pip. Even though I can read this type of deck, having scenes would've been amazing just because of the richness of Alice's universe.
Ok they have not done Alice and wonderland justice at all but Iove the idea. Not a fan of the borders images are small not a fan of the art and the characters don't really standout with the tarot very mis matched very disappointing. I would advice the author to put out another version cause this ain't it😂
I really don't like the artist I think she goes by Minerva she makes the Disney decks and i use to follow her on IG but she is incredibly unhinged psychologically ... Hopefully she gets replaced with someone else because ppl do deserve better when it comes to these Disney decks
Thanks 🙏 😊waiting for my new deck thanks ❤❤😊😊
I agree on the pip cards. And there could be more text in the guide book, for both major and minor arccana.

Pip decks can also be good. Many people talk about how it is negative but honestly it sometimes is better than pictures that don’t mean anything
Great overview, I have this deck! Used to love that cartoon when I was growing up :)
