    Are you put off by announcements that don't happen? Have you been disappointed in the past by these, and has it coloured your views of the company? Do the number of releases mitigate that - what do you guys think? Let me know below!

      Well, yes... I remember the time MPM announced their Potez 25 and Breguet XIX families in 1/72nd scale. Years and years waiting for those kits. When the Potez 25 finally did appear, it did so under the Azur/FRROM with a price tag so ridiculous I just flipped the bird to the screen and went for a walk. I know, short-run, exotic kit... price may be stupid but I hate companies trying to make you look like one as well.

    Really well prepared commentary. I have found Trumpeter to be a very good manufacturer, as well as Hobby Boss. Among the main Japanese manufacturers, only Hasegawa seems to be pushing out large volumes to supply the crest of the modelling wave.

    The I Love Kits used to be marketed under Merit Models. They used to do the 1/18 scale FlaK 88 and the 10.5cm field gun along with the 1/18 Douglas SBD-3/4 dive bomber. The 88 makes a nice kit.

      A good gun too - though not from the pov of my grandfather who had to face them in North Africa!

    I really enjoy these videos. As someone very new to the hobby, this is very helpful for what models may be interesting to me and also what models to avoid in terms of the older brands (like Revell) which may be a pain to work with.

      Yes it must! We used to get them across us all the time - that characteristic rotor slap warned you well in advance!

    Apparently, the 1/16 38T has a full interior added which the original Panda kit did not have.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      AH, I wasn't aware the original didn't have that, which is both a clear differentiator and leans into the open-topped versions - thanks for the info!

      @Mann's Model Moments You're very welcome. Watching your two videos on all these future releases got me quite excited, especially the 1/16th items. The SdKfz 251's, Panzer 1 based and the 38T based vehicles would be very welcome additions to my 16th scale collection.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do like the 38(t) based vehicles - I have a 1/35th Marder that is a lovely little (for the scale) thing, and doesn't involve all those bloody little wheels and return rollers of a Pzkpfw III or IV!

    Trumpeter is also in the middle of releasing a series of paper battleships that formed the backbone of the German plan Z building programs The H and O class are in pre order and I believe some of the more extreme variants are due for release later in the year.

    I've just building hobbyboss bergepanzer 3 buffalo in the instructions we have hint of the 3A1 version coming with extended dozer blade and had to shavenoffnthe rear corner mounts for the Smoke dischargers and one of the PE press even has 3A1 stamped on it! My friend and I both are crazy for bundeswehr ARVs and AEVs we are designing all 3D printed correction St's and upgraded sets so this we have not heard of anywhere and it's not in here but this were are quite excited about! We have known about the bergepanzer 2 for about a year now we seen it at the evens last year with the 38t 1.16 and scammell commander and hopefully the SLT 50 comes this year it's a kit I've been waiting for a few years now.on!

    Interesting... but there are a number of duplicates. Sail Ships seem to be pretty much overlooked. I'd like a 15th Century Catalan in 1/48 but I don't know how popular sail ships are. There are Takom , Mini Art and I love M3s which is great if you like M3 Meds .... but would it have been a better business strategy to pick another subject instead of offering the same subject ? I don't know , but I do have a number of these kits. Trumpeter did do the T 100 and 2 other related versions. .. As it is a favorite subject on mine , I think its great but I can't see other companies releasing their own versions of this kit....but another Tiger or Panther would probably sell .

    What about Gallery models ? The LHD-1 wasp Was released by Gallery and trumpeter, I have both releases, and they are identical. Plus, all the aircraft in the kits are released by trumpeter and in their catalogue.

  • @stevenniklaus5810
    @stevenniklaus5810 ปีที่แล้ว

    At least from last year or so, some announced kits finally have a boxart, not just a B&W photo anymore... (example: German Sd.Kfz. 9 - 18ton haltracks)... sounds promising.

    Sorry, I missed the time stamp. You made mention of a 1/48 F/A-18C being released and that it was likely based on the tooling of the Super Hornet. That is either incorrect or a terrible mistake being made by Trumpeter. The Super Hornet is a much larger version of the legacy Hornet. So much so, they really are two different aircraft. This is why I said something.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Purely speculation on my part since there is no indication one way or the other - we'll see if it is inaccurate or just a new tooling later this year I'm guessing!

  • @RealDaveWinter
    @RealDaveWinter ปีที่แล้ว

    8:49 It would be pretty near impossible to use tooling from a Super Hornet to produce a CF-18 or F-18C kit. The Super Hornet is 20% larger than Legacy Hornets and really, the only part of the aircraft that wasn't changed was the canopy.

    You would be wise to continue to avoid 1/16th armor. I recently finished my first, and last, 1/16th kit and while it does look pretty good the slog to finish it was not terribly enjoyable. It took at least four times the amount of time that an average 1/35 would have taken me because you have to apply more time detailing parts that can be quickly dispatched in the smaller scale. And I still haven't found a good place to put the beast.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah - I'm of the same mind, plus the cost really is a disincentive to me....I'm sure I'll do one at some point, but when I do have somewhere to put it!

    • @michaellemaire5380
      @michaellemaire5380 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to say that I'm of an opposite mindset. For example, I took just over 14 months to build and super detail/correct my Trumpeter King Tiger. It was a fantastic experience that had me enthusiastic about the project throughout. I have friends who were amazed that I could stay so focused, but I have to say that I never felt that "fatigue" we fall victim to during long projects. It really depends on the individual and how much patience and tenacity they have for a single project.

    • @michaellemaire5380
      @michaellemaire5380 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes,, money and space are definitely important considerations as well.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear it was a positive experience - I love the King Tiger and the idea of a 1/16th detailed version is very appealing...maybe in the future...

    a lot of these kits that where to be released may never be released.other companies have done these kits and may not be a big seller in which is showing for other companies not to be the sellers that they wanted.i know that these companies look at other companies sells in these areas.even with the ships to modernize they older kits may not be selling like they want.just like the tripizs,alot of molders will buy to bismarks and make one of each.so they have to come out with one in its later version to try to sell.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's a fair point - I think maybe some of the announcements, especially those with multiple versions of a base kit, will be based on the success of the initial version release and then the decision is made whether to proceed based on that. This is - of course - also influenced by other manufacturers releases, though I must say given the number of F-35 releases over the past few years I'm not sure wether that's seen positively or negatively!

    You got to love, how HobbyBoss consistently butchered the name on the boxes. One may forgive replacing an ä with an a, because the a-Umlaut is only found in German and Scandinavian char sets, type cases and keyboards. But it is definitely a 'Marder' (= marten) - not a 'Maeder' which is doesn't even exist as a German noun (There are some families carrying this as a name). And they do know, how to use an 'r', since it is there anyway. Makes one wonder, how accurate the decals would be.

    Hiya Alex, are you planning to do a segment about Tamiya?

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hadn't, as Tamiya (as far as I can see) haven't made a "big" announcement, they seem to update frequently each month rather than a big blast early in the year. It is definitely something that will be coming in a planned Podcast (more on that soon!), and I can always have a look if people want
