I’m trying to learn how to do this so I am following along with my pic. I learn by doing and got to where I am confused. Working with Vcarve desktop and at the part where you hit calculate but when I hit mine it don’t show the tool we picked at the bottom so I don’t know what to do. I have come to this part twice to see if I missed something but didn’t and I know from going a little farther you will repack the toolpath but mine isn’t there to pick. Could you please help?

I would recommend contacting support@vectric.com and include the file you are working on and the point where the process fails. Maybe even a timestamp of the location in the video where things go off the rails for you. I hope that helps.
Wow super great. Getting ready to do my first job of a plaque for my daughter becoming a doctor so I an learning all I ca. With Layers are they separate actions the cnc will do? So I have a few things I'm going to add Here name the 2 colleges she went to and so on> Thanks for any help
Hello Redds... thanks for the question, and please pass on a congradulation to your daughter!!! What a great thing! No the layers do not define your toolpaths or tooling... they can be used to help you in organizing your file and thought process making it easier to develop your tooling. So for instance if you had two different names you could put them on different layers and then hide and show them when you need them for your tooling. Hope that helps...
Hey Mark! The bitmap is an image that we import. The PhotoVCarve toolpath strategy creates the toolpath based on the selected bitmap :) I hope this helps :)
I don't know what kind of experience you have, maybe you are just getting started, so assuming that is the case, you can do this with Vectric Aspire I believe. Not for beginners and the price for a licence is considerable. But with some guidance, you could use a demo version of Aspire to see if you are up to the learning curve. You won't however be able to create a toolpath in DEmo mode. I have been following some YT channels for tutorials that might be of interest but none of them go into detail re: intermediate or advanced skills building. Lots of beginners stuff and I have outgrown most of them. When I first set my sights on CNC as a destination, it was because I saw a YT video in which the author claimed to be able to use a JPG file of a face to make a 2.5D model (also known as Bas relief) to reproduce a version in wood. Of the many problems I have encountered with doing faces and head and shoulder shots is dealing with background stuff, another major one is finishing the piece, dealing with the grain of the wood. You could try this YT creator SpindleTV, Laney claims to offer a service that will take care of your needs.

Hello Cal... your finished part would be inverted... and in some cases this would be a nice result.
Seems inverted photos would work well on a dark material
