My Grandfather was Dean Hergenrother that owned The Bird Cage restaurant on Redondo Beach Blvd. and later on The Big Bird Cage. My grandfather learned to cook at Dainels Cafe when he moved out to Gardena from Nebraska
I use to live in a sharecroppers shack on 157th and Figueroa St. across from the Spanish American Institute. It was about a 20 acre field and we planted corn, string beans and tomatoes. We had a vegetable stand facing Figueroa St. I'm looking for pictures of the area. 1957-1965
That was the American Legion Post 187 that was located on Gardena Blvd and Normandie Ave. The Gardena VFW General William Stark Rosecrans VFW Post 3261 is still in existence at Western Avenue and 162nd St. on the Southwest corner. I’m a Past Commander of the Post serving 1997-2000 and 2006-10. 👴🏻👍

My house had a gate in our backyard wall. Kids would cut through to walk to school or go to t g market. I lived on mariposa
My mom and dad were going there and the Trojan room back in 66-67. Elmer and Norma. We lived right behind the post office before theybuilt that 6 plex
