Hey bro I loved your video, i have a mustang ecoboost 2018 convertible, what is the option in your link, have 2 4 and 6 lights? I want the doors and dashboard, let me know to buy it. Tks
@@dirtdrumerthank you for quick response. I would like for 2 doors and dashboard. Yes my car has a premium package. Can I ordered 4 lights? I think it’s gonna work right? Tks
@@dirtdrumer For me, I am ok with using taps over connectors. I have a 2017 base and I was going to undergo something like this but it would have to be on a separate zone as I have the digital dash from the 2018+ but no actual ambient lights. I think the realm of $200 is fair without the connectors as long as they are labeled. I did install the ford ambient light kit but I only use it for the cup holders and foot wells. I am putting in newer door panels with the lights for the door handles so I was going to add those and these strips to the kit. Your car does look amazing
@@dirtdrumer Great to hear that, I am planning on installing the same lights following your video(this is really helpful, thank you). Could you please help me understand what you did with that common cathode and anode change you mentioned?
@@omnisplash3041 so basically I desoldered the led from the board, turned it 180 degrees and soldered back to the board. If you buy the same kit this should be all you have to do. But make sure to check the control board to see if the black wire connects to positive or negative. If it’s connected to negative then you won’t have to do anything other then the resistors
@@dirtdrumer ah that makes total sense. I ordered the same set, so I am assuming the black wire will be connected to positive just like yours, but thanks for the advice, will make sure to check that. For resistors, would you be able to send a pic of finished resistors(if you have it) or some example would be really helpful? Sorry, I am totally new to this and am not able to picture
@@omnisplash3041 not sure I can send pictures on the comments here. But if you want to send me a dm on Instagram I’ll see what pictures I have. @Thtwhitemexican
Could you please clarify. Out of the entire kit, you only needed acrylic strip and separate LEDs, each of which had to be disassembled and re-soldered, rotated 180 degrees? Plus add resistors. Is everything right?
Yes. The kit I ordered came with 5 leds and 5 strips. I took 4 of those leds, desoldered and flipped them , added the resistors and hooked them to the car .
How did you run the led strip through the back of the door so it could sit between the seems of the outside lines of the door??? I have the same type of plastic led strips as well
great video and good lighting. I have a mustang 2017 premium and my ambient lights stopped working. Can you tell me please which module controls ambient light and where is the location of standard controller that changes colors (I guess standard controller similar with this one what you show on your video)
Was always wondering if this was possible, gonna do this on my 2024 gt, when the led was desoldered and flipped was the color code still the same besides the negative and positive?
I think if you flip it the two outer wires colors will be flipped. So I think green and blue will then be opposites. Blue=green and green=blue. I’ll be doing another video on this if/when my dark horse gets here
That’s awesome, I tired to get a dark horse allocation but no dealer would sell at msrp over in Florida. But I ordered 2 of those 6 in one kits Incase I break any of the tubes installing, all the resistor values you listed. I had few junk leds i practiced de soldering and flipping, chipquick makes so easy with a heat gun.
Is any of the wiring going to the footwell lights 12v+ only when you turn headlights on I’m trying to find somewhere to tap in to 12v+ when my headlights are turned on to use as a signal for deeming affect on aftermarket gauges
I'm not tapping into any signal like that. I'm just pulling power from the lighting. Which is turned on when the headlights are on but none of the signals are on 12v full time (if it was red for example on the red line is hot at like 9ish volts). However, I bet you could pull from the actual light switch control? There might be some type of illumination signal that runs to the gauge cluster as well. The hard part is just identifying what line is what.
Depends on where you are. I would just start calling local computer repair stores in your area. Thats how I got in contact with someone who could help me out.
@@cole_world5739 there’s a couple things you could check. Make sure the plastic strip in inserted all the way into the light emitter. Make sure you didn’t bend or break the plastic strip where the light stops. Make sure the reflective black tape is still on the plastic strip. These trips aren’t made for tight corners or off axis bending. Bending or the strip not being inserted all the way is probably what is happening
