+Harpistry It's a tough one, nobody asked me this before ! I think composing for rock is much simpler than composing for orchestra, but it's just my opinion after doing both myself. All I know about it is empirical though. And there are plenty of ways to go too. All the bands I played in so far wrote riff-driven songs : you come up with a riff or riff-ish melody on one instrument, and you derive it into chord progressions and variations until you have a full song. I used to use this approach when I was a teenager. Sometimes the lyrics (if there are) drive the composition, in that the piece is built around them. This approach is much closer to the one used in other music genres I think, as it's usually done on paper and not in rehearsal rooms. My own way to do it is not to write a piece for rock, but rather for another genre, and then arrange it, by considering individual rhythm guitars as if they stood for full instrument sections. Bass and drums are simple to begin with and then I refine them to bring more expression to them. In a live rock band, it's usually better if the band members sometimes and have fun with their music parts. The rest is about picking the right sounds/tones. Guitar distortion usually suggests rock-based genres more than anything else.

Yes, I learn all songs by ear. I'm an autodidact, I've been trying to replay songs from video games for more than 25 years, so it's hard to tell how I learnt other than dedicating a lot of my life to it :). Train your ear, and learn your instruments first - except if you're willing to go full software (only a computer is needed then). Cover songs you like, start simple and record yourself as often as you can, that's really what helps improving yourself over time. Get some people to listen to your work and pinpoint what's wrong, that's what will keep you motivated for a lonnnnnng time. :)

In my arrangement the tempo and the tuning are exactly that of the original, so a mashup of the original and my arrangement is definitely feasible (and some people did it here on TH-cam). Here it's only the arrangement though, I've not uploaded a mashup version to date.
Carbo theres a problem, if last time it started messing up then this copy might. When i first listened to it before it was messed up it was 100% fine. Some time before it messed up it started doing what it was doing in the very beginning the 100% normal for rest of song. Now this song is starting to mess up in the beginning. So i would watch the song and make sure it's fine. It's just a theory and a warning.
