I do like fishing with a shaky head, but I've always considered myself more of a finesse-first sorta angler. But I've definitely used my flipping setup for shaky head fishing before. It works really good around slop and heavy cover. If you're a power fisherman and you fish heavily pressured waters, try using silent crankbaits instead. Fish get attuned to the sound of those rattles and learn to avoid them.

Ever try the Jika Rig in addition to or instead of the skaky head???

For sure, the Jika and Tokyo rig are both excellent, similar options yet different enough from the Shaky Head. We "usually" use casting gear with the Jika and Tokyo, whereas the Shaky Head excels on lighter spinning gear (and casting gear, too, as explained in this video).

Do you ever have any problems as far as missing fish on the hookset fishing your plastic burried in the plastic while using lighter flouro???

When should I use a shakey head over other bottom contact finesse baits? (Neko ned jigs etc)

Hi Richard, both excel as finesse presentations, and often in the same situation. Here are some times to go with one over the other. 1) Shaky Head excels when you want a jig head for fast and direct bottom contact, a little sound generation (head clicking against rocks, etc.), fishing in and around grass and wood (less hook fowling), fishing faster (heavier heads), and less rigging time and components. 2) The Neko provides more options and creativity in bait selection and is often more "finessy" when the bite is tough. While you can fish it relatively clean around grass and wood with a weed guard hook, the Neko rig is a strong performer around chunky rocks that snag jig heads -- we attribute this to the unique pull point relative to the nail weight. The soft plastic floats over rocks like a charm. The Neko is arguably a better-hooking presentation too. We like having both rigged and ready during tough bites, mopping up on a spot, or just wanting to catch a bunch of bass with relative ease (they eat the heck out of both and hook excellently). They are easy and forgiving for kids and less experienced anglers too.

Been doing this for a while lol. Don't like that 8lb test on a light rod. I like to hit cover and have some backbone. Also like he was doing being able to cover more ground more terrain and still have the backbone while way out there

Man I woulda thought w you being a pro and all you knew how bad it is to lift a fish completely horizontal like that by its jaw w/o supporting the body. You likely just shortened both fishes lives drastically. Sad to see w such a great game fish that's usually released for future generations to enjoy. Just some food for thought for anglers that don't know how detrimental that is to the fishes health.

He didn't crank them back horizontal. Plus the weight of the bass was very low. I doubt any damage was caused by this.
